Wolves fans on Traore contract update

Many Wolves fans have been left to flock to a contract update involving Adama Traore.

As per Goal, the Spain international is set to commit his future to the Midlands club, as he is currently in talks over a new deal.

However, that deal is likely to include a gentleman’s agreement with which he would be allowed to leave if a bigger club comes in bidding a certain transfer fee.

The update has certainly caused a debate among the Molineux faithful, as some are split over whether this is good news.

Of course, keeping one of the best players for as long as possible is ideal, but some are not happy at all with the gentleman’s agreement as it questions his loyalty and commitment to the Wanderers, while it is debatable whether he has actually earned it based off of just three goals and three assists this season (Transfermarkt).

12-year old Sajjida leads Pakistan Women to thrilling one-wicket victory against Holland

Pakistan Women beat the favourites Holland by one wicket in a cliff-hanger of a match, played under lights at Karachi’s National Stadium, to take a 1-0 lead in the seven match series

Mahmood Ahmad09-Apr-2001Pakistan Women beat the favourites Holland by one wicket in a cliff-hanger of a match, played under lights at Karachi’s National Stadium, to take a 1-0 lead in the seven match series. However, it was wayward bowling by the Dutch women more than anything else that led to their own demise. Failing to get their line and length right, they gave away 66 extras, of which 45 came in wides.Requiring 157 in the allotted 50 overs, Pakistan Women struggled initially, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Sajjida Shah, the 12-year-old middle-order batswoman, kept her cool in these adverse circumstances and saw her side home safely. She added 50 for the 6th wicket with Khursheed Jabeen (16) to take the side to 137 by the 41st over. However, at this juncture the visitors seemed to be running away with the match, taking four Pakistani wickets for the addition of just eight runs.Huda Ziad (1*) safely saw off the remaining overs from one end, whereas the valiant Sajjida kept scoring from the other, until the target was reached on the second ball of the last over bowled by Rambaldo.Sajjida remained unbeaten on 28 (from 112 balls). Apart from her, Kiran Baluch and Rabia Khan contributed 15 each and the opener Zehmurad Afzal made 10.For Holland, Salomons bowled really tidily giving away just 13 runs in her 10 overs, claiming three wickets. Rambaldo took two wickets for 34, while van Leeuwen, Jharap, and Koster took one wicket apiece.Earlier, the Pakistan bowlers did well to contain their Dutch counterparts to 156 for 8 in their 50 overs. Sticking to a tight line and length, they allowed minimum liberty to the Dutch to play shots. That’s why, apart from the 34 extras, only two batswomen could take their personal scores past 20. Pauline te Beest remained the top scorer in the upper order, getting 20 off 41 ball, which contained three boundaries.Oudolf did a commendable job batting at number eight, hitting 21 off 37 balls (one four), as she added 46 for the Rambaldo (17 off 52 balls, with 2 boundaries), after they had been reduced to 96 for 6 in the 32nd over. The skipper Shaiza Khan and Khursheed Jabeen bowled tidily for Pakistan, taking three wickets each for 26 and 30 runs respectively in their ten overs. Kiran Baloch and Zehmurad Afzal chipped in with one wicket each for 28 (10 overs) and 24 (8 overs), respectively.Sajjida Shah was declared woman of the match for her excellent match-winning knock of 28. The next match in the series will be played at the same venue on Wednesday, 11th April 2001.

QPR handed boost in Marcondes pursuit

Queens Park Rangers have been dealt a huge boost to their hopes of bringing Emiliano Marcondes to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Independent, who claim that Brentford are set to release the 26-year-old attacking midfielder at the end of his current contract at the Brentford Community Stadium, which is due to expire at the end of the month.

This could potentially open the door for QPR to reignite their reported January interest in the former Denmark U21 international, as he will be available to sign on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

Warburton must move

Considering how regularly Marcondes featured for Thomas Frank’s promotion-winning Brentford side last season, the news that the club plan to release the midfielder this summer comes as somewhat surprising news.

However, this should not bother Mark Warburton in the slightest, as the 26-year-old would appear to be an excellent addition to the 58-year-old’s attacking arsenal at QPR ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign.

Indeed, over his 31 league appearances – only 12 of which came as starts – for Brentford last season, Marcondes scored one goal, registered two assists and created three big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 0.8 shots and making 0.7 key passes per game.

While these would by no means appear to be mind-blowing returns, when taking into account the £2.52m-rated man only featured for an average of 44 minutes per fixture, his metrics are rather impressive, with the 26-year-old earning a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.75.

As such, with the potential of playing more minutes, and subsequently returning a greater number of goals and assists, if a move to QPR were to come off, the versatile £12k-per-week forward could well prove an extremely astute piece of business for Warburton to get over the line this summer – as the Rs manager bids to build a side capable of mounting a push for the play-off places next season.

And, with the player Frank dubbed “remarkable” having scored the goal in the play-off final that all but secured Premier League football for Brentford next season, perhaps Marcondes could go on to repeat the feat with QPR next term.

Everton in contact with Galtier’s agent

Everton’s hunt for a new manager is beginning to build a head of steam as they aim to replace Carlo Ancelotti in swift fashion.

What’s the word?

The Toffees have held talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and their hopes have been boosted after Crystal Palace pulled out of the race for the 47-year-old.

An informal approach has been made to David Moyes, while Manuel Pellegrini and Rafa Benitez have both reportedly been contacted over the vacancy at Goodison Park.

However, Farhad Moshiri and co are beginning to make their move on another coach, with Lille boss Christophe Galtier on the radar.

That’s according to Duncan Castles, who was speaking on the Transfer Window podcast this week. He said: “The guidance I have is that Everton have made contact with Galtier’s agent.”

Castles added: “They want a ready-made and experienced manager who could fit straight into their camp and not make too many radical changes.”

Exciting news

This is an update which should leave supporters at Goodison Park absolutely elated. After all, Galtier has a vast array of qualities which would no doubt suit what Everton are trying to achieve.

The Merseyside club are currently stuck in mid-table mediocrity and, when Galtier arrived at Lille, they were also a club stuck in limbo.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-manager-and-transfer-news-ancelotti-moshiri-fonseca-howe-moyes” title= “Read the latest Everton manager and transfer news!”]

They finished 17th in his first season at the club, which meant a fourth consecutive year outside of the top four. However, he then guided them to second and fourth-placed finishes before miraculously beating PSG to the Ligue 1 title this year.

Lille have often been on the periphery of Champions League football but have now qualified in two of the last three successive seasons.

A place at Europe’s top table has been the goal for Moshiri for a number of years but, despite managerial promises, qualification for the Champions League has eluded them.

Roberto Martinez told Bill Kenwright when he took over that he’d bring Europe’s premier competition back to Goodison Park, while Ancelotti reiterated a similar goal after his appointment. Unfortunately, no manager has steered them into the top four since David Moyes.

Galtier has a proven track record of achieving above expectations, and for Everton that should be eye-catching. It also bodes well for the fan base dreaming of a place among the continent’s elite clubs.

Rangers fans slam James Dornan tweets

Many Glasgow Rangers fans are livid with comments from politician James Dornan as the fall-out following their Premiership title celebrations continues.

This campaign has been one many Gers fans will never forget. They picked up their first top-flight title in 10 years, and they even went the entire campaign in the Premiership unbeaten (BBC). In fact, they only suffered three defeats across the whole season, one of which was on penalties (Transfermarkt).

Following the 4-0 defeat of Aberdeen on the final day of the season, throngs of Rangers supporters took to the streets of Glasgow to celebrate the team being given the trophy. There was some trouble in George Square – 20 arrests were made (firstpost.com) – but the celebrations were generally peaceful.

There have been plenty of discussion regarding sectarian chanting, with Rangers players and fans accused of singing anti-Catholic songs – there has been no proof of either charge as of yet.. However, football commentator Derek Clark @derekclarksport has put together two tweets from SNP politician Dornan, who appears to have indirectly shown double standards.

Dornan’s tweets were shared by Clark on Twitter and they attracted plenty of attention from Gers supporters. These took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the matter.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Dornan below

“See for all this talk about the constant singing of anti-Catholic and anti-Irish songs from a week past Saturday I’ve still not seen any videos of it. Surely with the amount of people there a video of it would have surfaced somewhere?”

@glasgowcathcart thinks it’s OK to have a hatred towards people from the UK, but not OK if that hatred is directed towards Irish. Normal people call out hatred wherever it’s directed.

“This however, is exactly why people like @glasgowcathcart have zero credibility. They believe they and only they, get to decide what is and isn’t acceptable. Condemn others, but when they vent their anti-UK bigotry and hate, they should be allowed to do so with complete impunity.”

Liverpool linked with Hakan Calhanoglu

Liverpool have been linked with a move for AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu as the summer transfer window approaches.

What’s the story?

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Reds have made contact with the 27-year-old’s agent, with his contract at San Siro set to expire over the coming weeks.

Serie A giants Juventus and Qatari outfit Al-Duhail are also credited with an interest in Calhanoglu as the race for his signature hots up.

Klopp needs him

Liverpool’s all-action gegenpressing style has proved hugely successful for Jurgen Klopp’s men in recent years.

A first Premier League title arrived just 12 months after the enigmatic German manager delivered the Anfield outfit’s sixth European crown but a hugely substandard 2020/21 campaign has left the need for some readjustments on Merseyside.

The high-energy, direct nature of Liverpool’s attacking play was fuelled by the work rate and tireless running of their midfielders.

Whether it was Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Fabinho taking up residence in the centre of the park, Klopp’s charges would regularly win the ball back high up the pitch before playing quick, simple passes to their famed front three.

However, their usually high standards dropped in the recently-concluded campaign, and a lack of alternative options available throughout Liverpool’s squad hurt the 19-time English champions.

Ever since Philippe Coutinho departed for Barcelona in January 2018, Klopp has been unable to call upon the service of a natural number 10.

The arrival of Thiago last summer added a deep-lying playmaker to Liverpool’s ranks, but the absence of a creative talent who thrives on playing intricate passes and through balls from an advanced midfield area has been noticeable in recent years.

Acquiring the services of Calhanoglu could solve that particular problem and Klopp may need the Turkey international if he wants to regain the Premier League crown for Liverpool.

Milan manager Stefan Pioli has praised the former Bayer Leverkusen wizard’s ability after his impressive performances in Italy, saying: “He knows how to marry perfectly with the game of his teammates. I have great respect for him, and with intelligent players, you can play great games. He has the qualities to have some more goals.”

Twelve assists in 43 appearances for the Rossoneri in 2020/21 illustrates the quality that Calhanoglu would bring to Anfield, and given that he’s available on a free transfer, it’s a signing which makes sense for many reasons for Klopp and Liverpool.

The debacle at Lord's – A Review

Pakistan’s humiliating defeat at Lords has plunged this cricket crazy nation into an ocean of frustration, anger and depression, not for the team losing a match but because it surrendered without a fight. They feel as if the team was devastated by a storm, from which the debris has to be collected, reconstruct its body and inject it with a soul. One that is full of imagination, wisdom, and a strong will to resist aggression. Can it be done in the week left before the second storm waiting at Old Trafford? The PCB and the players will only be spared of the people’s wrath if the team emerges victorious at Old Trafford. They’ve done it before and can do it now, but not with the same unimaginative, careless, timid and insipid attitude towards the game. The team management has to put its head down, do soul-searching to analyze the blunders committed and pledge to rectify them. The papers are full of news, comments, reviews and articles on the catastrophe that hit Pakistan at Lords. The major criticism revolved around lack of preparation, poor selection of the playing XI, lack of harmony, cohesion, motivation and the requisite fighting spirit. Above every thing else there was neither a visible plan of trying for victory nor one for saving the match when the going got tougher. Many observers of the game decried the inclusion of a half-fit Shoaib Akhtar in the side in place of master off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq who had carved his place among Wisden’s 5 Cricketers of the Year and had been a match winner on many an occasion.Mudassar Nazar, a former test player and presently Chief Coach of the PCB Cricket Academy found the Pakistan players confused and moving about in some kind of a daze. He termed the team’s overall performance as pathetic and advised the batsmen to stop chasing swinging and chasing balls outside the off-stump.An official of the PCB who accompanied the team to New Zealand as an Analyst has reflected badly on team discipline. According to him, the Pakistan team tours abroad without a set of rules and regulations. Staying up late nights and other frivolities, taking breakfast in bed, considering keeping in good shape as one’s own affair and attending practice sessions at will, were the common features. If such practices are continuing even on the England tour, we have no hope on Earth of performing better than at Lords.Former Captain Imran Khan who happened to visit the boys in the dressing room, tried to boost up their morale, at the same time being severely critical of the team’s warm up schedule. "It is the worst thing to happen after having had just five days of cricket. It is no preparation for a side for which the conditions were completely alien" he commented.Skipper Waqar Younis did express his disappointment on the defeat but had no excuse for the thrashing his team received. He frankly admitted that the team played badly, bowled and batted badly while England did not! He paid England pacers Darren Gough and Andy Caddick the ultimate compliment by comparing them with his own deadly pairing with Wasim Akram in the heydays. He, however, insisted that he had picked the right team discounting the need for a spinner.Being the controlling body, the PCB naturally comes under fire whenever a disaster of this nature occurs and history is replete with instances when the Board was dissolved for being incapable of efficiently handling the affairs of cricket. After all, what are they paid for, especially in the present times when every official makes a living out of cricket? Gone are the days when people used to work for love of the game, in honorary capacity and were still able to bring good results.Going through the chart of defeats that Pakistan suffered during the last 18 months rule of the present PCB set up, one finds the team’s performance at its worst, what to say of other administrative affairs. This is what prompted the press to surround the PCB Chairman and ask him all sorts of questions. The General expressed his disappointment on losing the Lords Test but did not think that the team deliberately threw it away. "Their body language was also not looking good and they made a lot of mistakes during the match", he commented. He also felt surprised as to why, one of the two spinners Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq was not included in the squad and that England was invited to bat after winning the toss.Furious at the disgrace, the public in general is demanding dismissal of the cricket establishment and accountability of the cricketers. Holding them responsible for messing up the national team, they asked for immediate sacking of the PCB officials. Such were the views expressed by the ardent cricket lovers during a poll conducted by the press. Even a businessman when interviewed said that `managing high profile game like cricket was different from running a battalion of semi-literate soldiers’.Amidst the wave of shock and discontentment that prevailed all over, the PCB Chairman was perhaps the right man to answer the queries. Replying to a sensitive question, whether he was thinking of quitting the office voluntarily or waiting for his removal after the humiliating defeat at Lords, he said that he had no intentions to quit. Those who appointed him could only remove him. He was right, because in Pakistan we have no such tradition of quitting a prized appointment. At a lower level people do so but a top man would never! The need of the hour is to re-group the team, motivate the boys and induce undying fighting spirit in them. The debacle at Lords must provide them a lesson to follow and put them in the right frame of mind to perform well in the 2nd Test. Whatever the result, they must acquit themselves honorably.
