Newcastle eye Sunderland’s Sanderson

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are interested in signing on-loan Sunderland defender Dion Sanderson.

Black Cats face fight to keep Sanderson

Sanderson has spent the campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light and has impressed as the Black Cats eye promotion to the Championship. Such has been the level of his performances, they are even said to have opened talks with parent club Wolves over a potential permanent deal – the Premier League outfit are believed to be looking for £2m (Daily Mail).

However, it now seems that Sunderland’s bitter northeast rivals Newcastle are also interested in the 21-year-old.

Blow to Sunderland

As much as Sunderland fans may hate to admit it, Newcastle will be a more exciting proposition at the moment. After all, they are in the top flight and, with the right manager, they have the tools to move up the Premier League table.

However, Lee Johnson will no doubt be looking to do all he can to make sure Sanderson is still at Sunderland next term. In the 25 League One matches he has played for them this season, they have managed 11 clean sheets, and his introduction to the starting XI on a regular basis has coincided with the Wearside outfit staking a real claim for promotion (Transfermarkt).

Sanderson’s future at the club may be linked to Sunderland’s performances. If they are unable to move up to the Championship, there will be little reason for him stay – but promotion could well change that.

In other news, many Sunderland fans slammed this man’s performance against Charlton.

Celtic: Worrying calls emerge over Ajer’s future

Parkhead could witness not only a major upheaval of Celtic’s playing squad this summer, but also of the coaching staff and boardroom.

Fergal Harkin has been linked with taking on the brand new director of football role while they are, of course, searching for a new manager.

What’s the word?

One part of the mass exodus this summer could be Kristoffer Ajer. The centre-back has been linked with Tottenham, Leicester and AC Milan in recent years.

Ajer’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and thus, if he isn’t going to sign a new deal, this could be the time to cash in.

Indeed, concerns over his future have now grown larger. The defender is currently on international duty with Norway where his manager Stale Solbakken urged him to quit Parkhead.

As reported by Norwegian outlet VG, Solbakken said: “Kristoffer has to change the league now, he must. He does not have enough challenges in everyday life. Therefore, I think he has got some habits, which you do not notice until he meets better opposition at international level or Europe.

“So, I think it would be a smart move for him. Kristoffer should go to one of the five major leagues. He will do that. He has the qualities to play in those leagues and I am calm about that.”

Norway’s assistant manager Brede Hangeland added something even more worrying: “If you are going to have development over a long period of time, you must be challenged as often as possible. I’ve told him this on the phone a couple of times. In some matches he plays in Scotland, he looks like a senior who plays at junior level. It’s of course because he’s good, and this is not criticism of the Scottish league.”

Bad news for the Bhoys

Hangeland’s words are incredibly startling; essentially suggesting that when Ajer plays, he makes the rest of the league look like a bunch of schoolboys.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-boupendza-mcgeady-marsch-mccarthy” title=”Latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

The 22-year-old has developed immensely during his stay at Paradise but news that those close to him are urging the defender to leave is not good news.

Dermot Desmond is currently one of the busiest shareholders in football, trying to find a new manager for Celtic and having to withstand copious amounts of pressure from the supporters.

Only this week he was questioned about his role in Glasgow, but he issued a valiant cry; he will not sell his shares.

His job could get even harder if Celtic give in and sell Ajer, though. After all, he is often the glue that holds this team together.

The Hoops have been awful from a defensive point of view this term, conceding 14 more goals than Rangers in the Premiership. Without their imperious Norwegian, that tally would definitely be worse.

Speaking earlier this term, John Hartson said: “He’s grabbing the bull by the horns and he’s almost dragging the team through, even to these draws.”

“He’s a credit to the rest of the players. They should all look at him and if they’d all adopted the same attitude as Ajer then might have made a better fist of it in terms of holding on to the title.”

To lose him, therefore, would be a colossal blow to Celtic’s ambitions of regaining the SPFL title next term. He is vitally important.

Wolves fans gutted over Jimenez update

Some Wolves fans have been left to bemoan an injury update on Raul Jimenez as the Daily Mail have reported that he may not play again this season.

As per the news outlet, the Midlands club remain determined to remain prudent over the Mexico international’s return to the team.

He returned to training with his teammates in March, although he is still not able to participate in contact sessions, and must have further assessments before being cleared to head the ball.

Jimenez has clearly been a big miss for the Molineux outfit, as his goal record speaks for itself, scoring no fewer than 47 times in 118 games in total over all competitions across three consecutive terms for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side (Transfermarkt).

Wolves fans on Jimenez injury update

These WWFC supporters bemoaned the injury update on Jimenez after it was shared on Twitter, with one fan going as far as to claim that they were ‘gutted’ while another branded it as ‘disappointing’:

DANIEL BORTOLETTO – Editor do LANCE!

CARLOS ALBERTO VIEIRA – Editor do LANCE!

O Santa fez 2 a 0, o Sport empatou.

AIGOR OJÊDA – Editor do LANCE!

LFC: Fans react to link with Ramsey

Fans of Liverpool have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relayed a report regarding Liverpool’s alleged interest in a summer move for Aaron Ramsey.

According to a report by CalcioMercato (via The Express), Ramsey could be set for a return to Premier League football in the shape of a move to Liverpool, who are facing the prospect of losing Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer when his contract expires on Merseyside this summer.

It is said that a move for the £187,000-per-week Juventus midfielder, who has scored two goals and registered four assists over his 18 Serie A appearances so far this season, would suit Jurgen Klopp’s side, due to the 30-year-old’s “potential availability” and “proven Premier League quality”.

However, after Empire of the Kop relayed the reports on Twitter, fans of Liverpool flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing to be distraught at the prospect of the Reds making a move for Ramsey this summer, brandishing the news ‘ridiculous’ and ‘silly’.

So, what exactly did these Liverpool fans have to say in reaction to the reports regarding Aaron Ramsey?

“A serious club wouldn’t get a finished player such as this one.”

@SheikhSadio

“Silly to replace Gini with a player the same age, on ridiculous wage & injury prone. Nar, we should pass.”

@AngryLittleMan1

“Too injury prone, no point.”

@Evans_sly

“This guy is broken more times than Matip!”

@76Hangman

“Last thing we need is another sick note.”

@haggisjoseph

Tottenham could lose Alderweireld

According to a report by Voetbal 24, Belgian Pro League leaders Club Brugge are willing to make a ‘significant effort’ to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld this summer and have already established ‘first contacts’ – with Jose Mourinho facing the possibility of potentially losing him depending on what the defender decides for his future.

Alderweireld, who has started 18 Premier League games over 2020/2021, enjoyed a rich vein of form earlier this campaign but has been rotated in and out of Spurs’ starting eleven in recent weeks alongside the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon.

Alderweireld attracting serious interest

For most of the season, however, he has been a regular in the Lilywhites’ backline – prompting serious interest from Club Brugge as they allegedly establish first contacts over a potential summer move.

Indeed, it has apparently been ‘known for some time’ that Brugge are really keen on the 32-year-old – and Voetbal 24 claim that they are ready to make a ‘significant effort’ to sign him in the summer.

It will of course depend on what the international decides for his future, with Alderweireld previously indicating ‘several times’ he would like to live in his native Belgium again.

Club Brugge are apparently ‘ready to strike’ if the centre-back decides to leave Spurs this summer and would welcome him with open arms.

The centre-back position has been a weak point in Tottenham’s side since the beginning of the season, and losing Alderweireld this summer could come as a setback.

Transfer Tavern take

Speaking to Football Insider earlier this season, pundit Noel Whelan described him as a ‘phenomenal player’ and the ‘best defender at the club’. Even though Spurs may need to adopt a sell-to-buy policy this summer, it’s arguable the likes of Sanchez or Dier are more expendable candidates for the chop.

Time will tell whether he does opt to leave for a return to Belgium at the end of the season, but it could be one to keep an eye on.

LFC must fork out for Vlahovic

Liverpool could be set to fork out a considerable fee for a striker this summer, with Fiorentina having slapped a huge asking price on Dusan Vlahovic.

According to Italian outlet Milan Live, the Reds are interested in swooping for the Serbian forward but would have to pay €40m (£35m) to acquire his services in the summer.

It’s a fee that should be considered a bargain for Vlahovic and one that Michael Edwards should certainly consider paying to bring him to Anfield.

At just the age of 21, the striker’s progression with Fiorentina has been remarkable following his arrival from Partizan Belgrade in 2018.

As recently as last season, Vlahovic was playing for the club’s youth side in the Campionato Primavera 1 but has now developed into one of the most lethal forwards in Serie A having plundered 15 goals in 29 league appearances for La Viola this season.

For comparison, only four players in Italy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Luis Muriel and Simy, have netted more in the league than the youngster this season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-gravenberch-keita-mane-williams-kabak” title=”Read the latest Liverpool news, transfer rumours and more…”]

Despite that, Fiorentina Head Coach Cesare Prandelli has suggested that Vlahovic is set to get even better, saying that he is “destined” to improve.

Furthermore, former hotshot forward Christian Vieri thinks that the striker is up there with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as one of Europe’s top young strikers.

That type of talent, with a clear eye for goal, would certainly prove useful for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who have struggled in attack this season.

Regular forward Roberto Firmino has scored just six times in all competitions, whilst fellow striker Divock Origi has netted just one goal throughout 2020/21.

It goes without saying then that the Fiorentina man would be an instant improvement upon the Reds’ frontline when it coms to scoring goals.

Regardless, there could be reservations over the signing of Vlahovic considering Fiorentina’s asking price and the fact that he is rated at just £22.5m.

Considering his quality and promise though, the Reds would certainly not be overpaying by forking out €40m.

Michael Edwards must certainly find the cash to bring Vlahovic to Anfield and get Liverpool the type of goalscoring striker they’re crying out for.

Rangers transfer blow as Lazio eye Hagi

Steven Gerrard looks to have been handed a potential blow ahead of next season at Ibrox, with Lazio reportedly eyeing a move for Rangers star Ianis Hagi this summer.

According to reports from Italy, the Biancocelesti are keen on signing the Romanian international this summer as they look to amend their goalscoring issues in Serie A.

The report added that a bid of €10m (£8.6m) would be enough to prise the 22-year-old away from Ibrox this summer, and it would surely be a big blow for Gerrard if Hagi were to depart.

Rangers initially signed the attacking midfielder on loan from Belgian side Genk in January of the 2019/20 season and he contributed three goals and two assists for Gerrard’s side in all competitions, which was clearly enough to convince the 40-year-old to make the transfer a permanent one last summer.

He has continued to impress this season, with seven goals and 12 assists to his name in all competitions, so he has clearly become an important player at Ibrox despite being just 22.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read this week’s latest Rangers news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Gerrard was full of praise for Hagi after his double against Braga in the Europa League last season, saying: “Ianis is an outstanding talent and that stage was made for him.”

Therefore, it seems fair to suggest that the former Liverpool captain will be desperate to keep the youngster in his squad ahead of next season, when Rangers will be looking to give a strong account of themselves in the Champions League, as well as attempting to retain the Premiership title they won so impressively this term.

[freshpress-quiz id=“588789″]

Considering Hagi’s contract isn’t set to expire until 2024, you would hope that Rangers would be able to demand a hefty fee should Lazio make an official approach this summer. However, if the Romanian international is keen on a move to Italy, there may be little that Rangers can do to stand in his way.

And, in other news… Gerrard may already have his McGregor replacement in teen wonderkid training with the first team
