Ndiaye clone: Everton lead race for £20m star who’d be a “jackpot transfer”

Everton need to make any number of new signings this summer, but few fans would argue against a centre-forward being one of the most pressing issues.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave when his contract expires in three months, while loanee Armando Broja’s injury-ruined season means The Friedkin Group are unlikely to activate his £30m buy clause.

Everton manager David Moyes andBetoafter the match

Beto, at least, has made headway since David Moyes’ winter arrival, but he’s lost his scoring touch in recent games and competition at number nine is needed for sure.

Everton leading race for 14-goal striker

According to TEAMtalk, Everton are interested in signing Rangers striker Hamza Igamane and have learned he will be available this summer for a sizeable £20m fee.

In fact, Everton’s vested desire has seen them assume the lead in the race for the Moroccan forward, despite Tottenham Hotspur and German champions Bayer Leverkusen also in the mix.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

While Igamane wouldn’t come cheap, he is a contrasting profile to Beto and a reliable goalscorer besides.

Why Everton could be targeting Ndiaye 2.0

Aged only 22, Igamane has a long career ahead of him. After fostering his ability in the Scottish Premiership, he may well hope to try his hand in the Premier League, taking his place as a centrepiece of Moyes’ project.

Principally, he’s a centre-forward, but Igamane is also blessed with fast feet and a sharp footballing mind. Analyst Ben Mattinson has hailed such skills: “His intelligence and understanding of space is something else.”

Indeed, Mattinson has also dubbed the forward a “Barclaysman-type” player, bearing that nostalgic style that is typically associated with former players from the noughties.

It’s the kind of approach that carries a semblance to that of Iliman Ndiaye, especially since Igamane can also alternate slickly between the left flank and a central attacking position, at his best when bouncing off the most structured striker (in Everton’s case, Beto).

Everton signed Ndiaye from Marseille last summer for a £15m fee, and he has gone on to stand out across the campaign. While injured for most of Moyes’ tenure thus far, he did bag three goals from four matches before falling to injury early in the fifth: the Merseyside derby.

Aligning the respective forwards’ data really does emphasise Ndiaye’s brilliance. The sharpshooting Senegalese is prolific, combative and active through the various phases. He really is a marvel, heralded by Ashley Williams as the Toffees’ “best player.”

One of the more electric wingers in the Premier League, Ndiaye ranks among the top 7% of such positional peers for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

This is something that could be emulated through the addition of Igamane, who ranks among the top 2% of forwards in the Europa League this season for the same metric.

European experience, a dynamic skillset and a tenacious attitude? Check, check, check. Igamane would be a wonderful addition to an Everton side preparing to lose some core attacking parts. He’d enrich the frontline, take it higher and higher.

Moyes knows what he’s doing, all right. Talent scout Jacek Kulig called the Morocco talent a “jackpot transfer” for Rangers, and the same could be applied to Everton, should they seal the deal.

Somerset strengthen top spot with batting masterclass at Essex

Somerset’s batting masterclass strengthened their position at the top of the Vitality Blast South Group with a seven-wicket crushing of Essex.Tom Banton (42), Will Smeed (36), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (28), Tom Abell (40 not out) and Sean Dickson (30 not out) struck 16 sixes between them in an almost perfect team batting performance.Paul Walter whacked 51 and Robin Das a career-best 72 in a 94-run stand after Essex slumped to 15 for 3. But Somerset ended Essex’s five-game winning streak by chasing down 186 with 21 balls to spare to move two points clear at the top of the group.Smeed and Banton took on the 187 target with the intent of finishing the match in a hurry, the pair smashing 64 in 5.2 overs.Somerset were only on 11 after two overs before Smeed took Shane Snater for three successive legside sixes in a 23-run over, and then Walter was taken for 15 with both batters helping themselves to maximums.Smeed’s 16-ball 36 salvo ended when he toed to mid-on, but that breakthrough didn’t pause the onslaught as Kohler-Cadmore peppered Hayes Close with three sixes and 21 off Matt Critchley.Kohler-Cadmore cleared the press box but Simon Harmer had him caught next ball and Banton – who had reversed an outrageous six – was leg-before to Sam Cook for 42.Snater was brought back for a second over, Dickson plonked him over the square leg boundary two more times – the Dutch international going for 42 in his two overs.Daniel Sams returned 2 for 22 in a rare break from cannon fodder, and could have had three had Das held onto Dickson, but Abell and Dickson eased over the line soon after.Essex had been stuck in and were three down inside three overs.Jack Brooks returned from his loan at Nottinghamshire for his first Somerset Blast appearance of the season and had Feroze Khushi caught at deep point and Dan Lawrence skying – boasting 2 for 8 after his first two overs.New Zealander Matt Henry took the first of his three wickets when Michael Pepper’s extravagant shot was touched behind. But Das and Walter got the hosts out of their hole with two differing ways to bat aggressively. Walter took the aerial route with five sixes – starting with a pair of pulls before towering over cover, slog sweeping Roelof van der Merwe and then reaching his 26-ball fifty by clubbing a full toss over cow corner. He chased to point next ball to fall for 51.Das showed off his touch play with some beautiful timing in his 11 fours, although he displayed some muscle too with two sixes over long on. His second T20 fifty came in came in 31 balls before unleashing to end up 72 off 39.He pinged Henry to long on which began Essex’s second collapse, losing their last five wickets for 43 runs in 31 balls.Van der Merwe bowled Sams – before very publicly dislocating and attempting to relocate his finger – Will Buttleman gave Henry 3 for 24, Simon Harmer was run out backing up, Shane Snater run out chasing a second and Matt Critchley caught at short third after an enterprising 30.

Ruthless from Potter as West Ham want to sell Lopetegui signing for £25m

West Ham United and Graham Potter are ready to sell a “smart” Julen Lopetegui signing this summer.

It hasn’t been a season to remember for the Hammers after splashing the cash in the summer transfer market under Lopetegui. The former boss and Tim Steidten brought a number of new players to the London Stadium, however, neither are still at the club.

Potter replaced Lopetegui who was sacked at the beginning of the year, while former technical director Steidten left weeks later. West Ham and Potter now appear to be working behind the scenes on signings ahead of the 2025/26 season, with a new forward high on the to-do list.

A number of attackers have been linked with moves to London. Potter is keen on Lille striker Jonathan David, whereas an approach has been made for Fiorentina’s Moise Kean and an offer is thought to be on the table for Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto.

After an attacking arrival, there could be a departure in the final third, with Pitter and West Ham willing to cash in on a recent addition.

West Ham want to sell Guilherme for £25m as Feyenoord eye move

According to reports in the Netherlands, relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham are looking to get rid of Luis Guilherme.

It is stated that Dutch side Feyenoord are looking to sign the 19-year-old after failing to bring him in during the January transfer window, with the Hammers wanting €30m (£25m).

Luis Guilherme for West Ham.

The youngster joined West Ham from Palmeiras for just over £25m last summer, and he has made seven appearances during that time, three of which have come under Potter.

Lopetegui praised Guilherme shortly before his sacking, calling him “very humble” and “very smart”.

“Step by step he’s more ready to help us and he’s going to take advantage of his opportunity. I have the feeling that, with time, he’s going to become a very good player for the Premier League.

“He has one very, very good thing: his mentality. He’s a hard worker. He’s a very humble boy and a very smart boy. He wants to improve. That’s why I think that he’s going to have a good future.

“I would like that his future is as soon as possible because we want to take advantage of him. I have a good opinion about the future because of his condition, physical, technical and his mentality. Mentality is key in all the players. If you have the right mentality, you are able to survive in the Premier League.”

Liverpool eyeing swoop to sign 27-goal star rivalling Salah for Ballon d’Or

Perhaps with replacing Mohamed Salah in mind, Liverpool have now reportedly set their sights on signing the Egyptian’s greatest rival to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or this summer.

Liverpool eye new forwards as Diaz, Jota and Nunez disappoint

Arne Slot’s debut campaign has gone so well at Anfield that the natural expectancy was that they would, one way or another, find a way past Paris Saint-Germain. For the first time in the Dutchman’s Liverpool career, however, his side’s weaknesses were laid bare up against a PSG side who are simply more complete under Luis Enrique these days.

Not just Nunez: Liverpool star who lost the ball every 3 mins let Slot down

It was fairly fitting that arguably Europe’s best two sides needed penalties to decide what was a two-legged tie filled to the brim with world class quality and in many ways it summed up Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool career that he was the one who blinked first.

Between Diogo Jota’s frantic yet ineffective performance, Luis Diaz’s mixed display and Nunez’s own frustrating cameo, it became clearer than ever that the Reds need an attacking boost this summer, especially if Salah departs as a free agent.

If that is to be the case – and a disastrous one at that – then those at Anfield must pursue the signature of the Egyptian’s Ballon d’Or rival this summer, having already reportedly set their sights on his potential arrival.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are now eyeing a summer swoop to sign Raphinha from Barcelona in a move that would instantly ease their Salah blow and revive their frontline.

FC Barcelona's Raphinha in action with Real Sociedad's MartinZubimendi

Unlike this time last year, however, Barcelona are unlikely to part ways with Brazilian at the first chance they get. In fact, they’re likely to deny any offer at all for the winger’s signature, given how he has exploded into life to become one of Europe’s most lethal players in the current campaign – scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

"Special" Raphinha one of few who could replace Salah

When Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes go searching for a player capable of guaranteeing 20-plus goals a season whilst also taking up the role of main creator, they will struggle to find an extensive list of players able to come close to the levels that Salah has consistently shown. However, if they turn that search towards Spain they may just find one of a select few stars beginning to show similar traits.

Although the numbers show just how unbelievable Salah’s season has been, Raphinha has been no slouch either and remains the Liverpool star’s greatest Ballon d’Or rival – especially after advancing in the Champions League.

At 28 years old, the former Leeds United winger is finally at the absolute peak of his powers and earning deserved praise from Hansi Flick as a result. The Barcelona boss told reporters earlier this season: “He has good dynamics with the ball and he has had an extraordinary match.

“His offensive and defensive dynamics, and his good technique, are something special. I have never had a player like him and he helps us a lot.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad credits pre-season camp for CSK's success

He also praised the team management for giving their players role clarity and job security

Moody: ‘Gaikwad’s tempo and Conway’s perseverance made difference’

Chennai Super Kings’ pre-season camp at Chepauk in March-April has played a key role in their success in IPL 2023. This was Ruturaj Gaikwad’s assessment after CSK beat Gujarat Titans on a tricky Chennai pitch to make their tenth IPL final.Several CSK players, including Gaikwad himself, had never played an IPL game in Chennai before this season. The camp had begun on March 3, with captain MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu among the first batch of players to have arrived in the city. Gaikwad and pace spearhead Deepak Chahar then joined the side late after completing their rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.”[The camp was] very vital because a new surface was being laid over in Chennai,” Gaikwad said at the press conference. “Everyone was not sure how the wicket is going to be or how the wicket is going to play. But sometimes when you play on flat tracks, you need not have to think much on your shots and not much about the [opposition] bowling. Sometimes batsmen play good shots and hats off to him. Even while you’re batting, it’s about getting into the zone.Related

MS Dhoni: 'I can be a very annoying captain'

“But in Chennai, it’s slightly different. You have to alter your game according to the pitch that is given that day. Sometimes, it’s slower and sometimes it’s good [for batting]. So, I think it was good to have an idea about how it was going to play. It definitely helped me a lot personally and everyone who was there in the camp. Tushar [Deshpande] was there from the first day and also someone like Raj [Rajvardhan Hangargekar] and all the youngsters were also there from the first day, so I think it helped.”Gaikwad credited the CSK team management for giving their players role clarity and job security. Sri Lanka mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana, for example, had picked up just one wicket in six games at Chepauk before the first qualifier, but he got another game and doubled the tally when CSK were under pressure. On Tuesday, Theekshana claimed the key wickets of Titans captain Hardik Pandya and finisher Rahul Tewatia to help CSK defend 172.Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have a chat•Getty Images”A lot of effort [goes into our success],” Gaikwad said. “[It] started from last year when we didn’t qualify [for playoffs]. Obviously, the management got something to work on and there were things which we needed to improve and put an effort on, or add someone. This year, right from the first game, I think we were clinical and sure about who is going to play and who is not going to play and what will be our probable XII or XIII or XIV.”I think right from the first game everyone knew about their roles. When the Sri Lankans came [late] – Theekshana and [Matheesha] Pathirana – I think they were up to the mark even from the first game. So, I think we were pretty much playing with the same team and just continued the momentum. And hats off to everyone – the support staff and the management as well.”The surfaces at Chepauk haven’t offered big turn like they often did in the past. So far, seamers (51) have picked up more wickets than spinners (45) this IPL. The bigger straight boundaries at the venue have also challenged batters. Gaikwad spoke of the adjustments he had to make along with his opening partner Devon Conway, who had also never played an IPL match at Chepauk before this season.”I think in the Delhi game, I’d say I had a slight advantage about the shorter boundary being there straight on both ends,” Gaikwad said. “So, after six overs, we [me and Devon Conway] personally felt 160-170 would be a good score, so just keep on batting until the 10th-11th over and then we thought one of us could just take some risks because we have Shivam Dube coming in, Mahi coming in, Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja] coming in…a lot of big-hitters coming in.”So, there was a slightly different game there after 10-12 overs. But in Chennai, obviously big boundaries, so you have to find the gaps and manoeurve some shots and that’s what I feel Conway has been doing well. So that’s why he has been successful.”

Worth more than Phillips: Leeds have hit the jackpot with "monster" star

In recent days, Leeds United have been linked with a fairytale reunion with former midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the summer should they achieve promotion from the Championship.

The 29-year-old departed Elland Road back in the summer of 2022, joining champions Manchester City in a £45m deal – allowing him to take the next step in his career after racking up over 200 appearances for his boyhood side.

However, the move hasn’t worked out as either party would’ve anticipated, featuring just 31 times for the Citizens before being sent on separate loan spells to West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

Kalvin Phillips for West Ham

It would be a special transfer should the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ return to the side where he made his name, potentially allowing him to get his career back on track after a stop-start few years.

One thing is for sure, the hierarchy conducted phenomenal business with the funds generated from his departure, allowing them to sign numerous stars as a result.

Leeds’ signings made with the Phillips fee

In the summer of 2022, Leeds managed to pull off a deal to land Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig, offering a direct replacement for the departing Phillips.

The American would join in a £20m deal, making 28 appearances during his solo year in Yorkshire, departing for a £23m fee 12 months after joining, allowing for a quick £3m profit.

Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams.

Georginio Rutter was another player who joined in the same season, costing £35m from German outfit Hoffenheim – taking his time in being a success at Elland Road.

The Frenchman failed to score in his first six months at the club but sparked into life in the Championship last campaign, notching eight goals and 16 assists, leaving in a £40m to join Brighton – also netting a profit in the process.

One other player moved to Elland Road during the 2022/23 season, with his market value soaring as a result of his showings during his own stint in Yorkshire.

The player who’s now worth more than Phillips

The Championship has been a fiercely competitive division this year, with Leeds still in the race for promotion as the season edges ever closer to its conclusion.

Daniel Farke has done a superb job in leading the side to another promotion battle after picking up from their playoff final defeat against Southampton last season.

Wilfried Gnonto has played a key part in the club’s success in recent times but has dropped out of the side as of late due to the form of others around him.

The Italian cost just £3.8m from Swiss side FC Zurich back in the summer of 2022, with very few supporters having any idea how impressive he would turn out to be in Yorkshire.

The 21-year-old has registered 18 goals during his three seasons at the club, with five of his efforts coming in the second tier this campaign, playing an important role in their quest for promotion.

Gnonto, who has previously been dubbed a “monster” by one analyst, has registered over 100 appearances for the Whites, highlighting his importance to the club after his bargain move.

Given his displays, he was valued at £50m by the club at the end of January amid interest from Saudi Arabia – desperately wanting to keep hold of the 21-year-old who could improve further given his tender age.

His subsequent value is higher than that of former midfielder Phillips, who’s now valued at £16.8m by Transfermarkt after his failed move to Manchester City a couple of years ago.

The opportunity to land the 29-year-old this summer would undoubtedly inject excitement into the fanbase, given his previous run of form in the first team under Marcelo Bielsa.

However, there’s no denying the club made the right call in allowing him to leave, banking a huge profit and allowing for investment in the likes of Gnonto, who too could also command a mammoth fee in the future.

New target: Man Utd eyeing "superstar in the making" who snubbed City move

Manchester United have now joined the race to sign a “superstar in the making”, who has already snubbed a move to rivals Manchester City, according to a report.

Man Utd eyeing move for attacking midfielder

As we approach Ruben Amorim’s first summer transfer window as Man United boss, it is clear the manager will need to strengthen in a number of key areas, if his side are going to be competitive in the upper echelons of the Premier League table next season.

United are 13th in the standings with just nine games left to play, having arguably been overreliant on Bruno Fernandes to provide goals and assists, with the Portugal international leading the way on both metrics.

As such, the Red Devils may want to bring in another attacking midfielder this summer, and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha is one of the names on the shortlist, although contact is yet to be made to discuss a potential deal.

Southampton’s Tyler Dibling is also under consideration, with talks being opened over a deal for the 19-year-old, but the Englishman is not the only young attacker Amorim has his eye on.

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb (via Sport Witness), Man United are now in the race to sign Genk’s Konstantinos Karetsas, who has previously snubbed a move to rivals Man City.

Greece's KonstantinosKaretsascelebrates after the match

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Napoli are also interested in a move for Karetsas, who has started to attract widespread interest from across Europe, courtesy of his performances this season.

The 17-year-old is said to have established himself as one of the best young talents in the world, and the race for his signature is now hotting up.

Karetsas impressing for club and country

Despite his age, the teenager has already managed to establish himself as a key player for Genk, making 25 league appearances this season, during which time he has amassed two goals and two assists.

Having impressed in the Belgian Pro League, the Greek attacking midfielder recently earned a call-up to his national side, where he has continued to perform very well, breaking the record to become the youngest Greece player to score a competitive goal.

Following the starlet’s magnificent performance to help Greece prevail against Scotland, he also received high praise from freelance scout Ben Mattinson, who tipped him for future success.

As such, it is exciting news that Man United are in the race for Karetsas, and they will be hoping the youngster’s previous snub of Man City will give them a better chance of winning the race for his signature.
