Liverpool now readying huge offer to sign "complete footballer" for Klopp

A significant development has emerged regarding Liverpool's pursuit of a "complete footballer", with the Reds reportedly ready to table a "huge offer" for his services.

Liverpool transfer news

Jurgen Klopp must be delighted with how last summer's transfer business at Anfield has panned out, with his decision to completely change the midfield paying off handsomely. His side lead the Premier League table by five points and are still in every cup competition, as this season threatens to be a memorable one.

New signings this month are something that the Liverpool manager may still be considering, however, especially as injury problems are beginning to mount, and the Merseysiders have been linked with plenty of players of late.

Teenage "golden boy" Bilal El Khannouss is an interesting name who has emerged as a target for the Reds, with the 19-year-old currently plying his trade at Genk, while Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is an option at left-back, with a long-term replacement needed for Andy Robertson eventually.

Liverpool ready "huge offer" for Teun Koopmeiners

According to a fresh update from Tutto Atalanta [via Sport Witness], Liverpool are readying a "huge offer" for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. Another report from Calciomercato has claimed that Newcastle United, Napoli and Juventus are all interested, too.

Atalanta central midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

He is described as a "prime target" for the Reds, and while a specific figure isn't mentioned in the report, a fee of around €45m (£38.5m) is relayed from previous updates. A January move for the Dutchman may be tricky, however, due to him being happy at his current club,

Koopmeiners could be an intriguing option for Liverpool, having grown into a formidable midfielder over the years, becoming a key man for Atalanta and making a total of 104 appearances. In that time, he has also scored 21 goals and registered 12 assists, highlighting his end product, and former Ajax ace Ruud Krol has lauded him in the past, saying:

“Koop is a great player. He has an international caliber and is the starter in the Dutch national team. I certainly see him doing well at a big club. Juve or Milan? He would certainly be invaluable to both of them. Koopmeiners can play in all positions in the middle of the pitch: both as a playmaker and as a midfielder. He is a complete footballer who would be useful for all coaches, including Allegri."

At 25, Koopmeiners is in the sweet spot of his career where he is experienced but still young enough to improve further – he is the same age as current Liverpool hero Alexis Mac Allister – and a tally of 20 caps for the Netherlands alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch outlines his international pedigree, too.

It looks as though a summer move may be more likely, and while the Reds do now look well-stocked in midfield, Thiago could leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, and Koopmeiners could be an ideal replacement, capable of playing in various positions.

Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea "working" to sign striker who could replace Broja

Chelsea appear to be working behind the scenes to land a new forward who could end up replacing Armando Broja, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Armando Broja transfer update

So far this season, the 22-year-old hasn’t exactly nailed down a regular role under Mauricio Pochettino, missing parts of the campaign with two separate injuries. Broja has been limited to just seven starts in all competitions, with Nicolas Jackson the first-choice striker at Stamford Bridge. However, despite Jackson being currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Chelsea could still sell Broja before the end of the month.

Chelsea ready move to sign "unbelievable" new star ahead of Real Madrid

This could be a major boost.

ByTom Cunningham Jan 21, 2024

Reports have claimed that Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham and Wolves have all expressed their interest in the "powerful" Albanian, with Chelsea open to a deal for no less than £35m or on a loan with an obligation to buy.

Talking to GiveMeSport, Romano has now said that Chelsea would indeed be open to selling Broja on a permanent basis, with the Blues "actively working" on signing a potential replacement who could rival Jackson.

"There's plenty of interest and that may raise the price. But there is a point of difference between what the clubs predominantly want, which is a loan with an option or potentially an obligation, and Chelsea who would consider a permanent sale and ideally would like money that they can spend sooner rather than later. We've also heard reports that Chelsea could sell Broja regardless of whether they find a striker.

“I still think even if that is accurate, Chelsea are actively working on options because even if financially speaking it was right to let Broja go with no replacement this window, Pochettino may have other input. It would leave him with Nkunku, who can play further forward but is coming back from injury. It would leave him with Jackson who's at the African Cup of Nations and may need some rest when he returns in early February, and no other established striker should Broja go and not be replaced."

Chelsea striker rumours

The Blues have been linked with a number of attackers in recent weeks and may need to land one of these should Broja leave. One of the biggest names who could move to Stamford Bridge in 2024 is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, however, a deal may not materialise until the summer despite the Nigerian being open to a move.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Another high-profile name is Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, with rumours last week suggesting that the Blues had failed with an offer of around £73m.

Short-term solutions could therefore be looked at with the deadline fast approaching, and there were reports earlier in the window that four forwards offered to Chelsea were AZ Alkmaar’s Vangelis Pavlidis, Zenit St Petersburg’s Mateo Cassierra, Cercle Brugge’s Kevin Denkey and Atletico Mineiro’s Paulinho.

Former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, now at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad is another who has been linked with a move to Chelsea for the second half of the season, and following Romano’s claim, it wouldn’t be a shock if one of the attackers mentioned ends up in London before February 1.

Klopp signed Gakpo from PSVDutchman hails manager's influenceLearned vital lesson from Liverpool bossWHAT HAPPENED?

Gakpo has paid tribute to Klopp after waving an emotional farewell to the German at the end of the season. Klopp brought Gakpo to Liverpool in January 2023 from PSV and the Dutchman has already picked up his first trophy with the Reds, winning the League Cup back in February. The trophy was also Klopp's last as Liverpool manager and one the German described as the "most special" of his time at the club.

Klopp's impact at Liverpool will be felt for a long time to come after also winning the Premier League and the Champions League during his nine years at Anfield. Gakpo has revealed just how important Klopp was to the players and the one "gift" the German gave him that has helped him enormously in his career.

WHAT GAKPO SAID

He told : "If you look at the impact he has had on the club, the fans, the players, many of whom have experienced him for much longer than I have these one and a half years: that has been very valuable to everyone,” he said.

“The most important thing I learned from him? That you don’t have to prove anything to anyone but yourself. When that really hit me? That is not a specific moment, but it is a gift that he was able to trigger us as players in a different way every time, to give just an extra percentage or one and a half. That was special.”

Leeds working to sign Carvalho ahead of Championship rivals; contact made

Leeds United are keen to further their promotion push by bringing in new arrivals this month and are now said to be pushing to complete an ambitious swoop for a talented player, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Leeds United's January rumours…

Over the January window, Leeds may be expected to acquire new bodies to help their promotion tilt under Daniel Farke; however, the mid-season market is notoriously difficult to navigate as clubs are usually less willing to let go of their prize assets.

Djed Spence has already left Elland Road after being sent back to Tottenham Hotspur, potentially paving the way for a replacement to arrive. Speaking about his departure, Farke said:

"We wanted to take the impressions of the festive period into account. We came to the conclusion that we would end the loan of Djed. We are grateful for his time there. We wish him all the best."

According to The Sun, Leeds are in the mix to sign Bournemouth forward Kieffer Moore; nevertheless, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion are also believed to be keen on the Wales international. Former Whites man Carlton Palmer has endorsed his potential arrival in a recent interview with Football League World, as he said:

"Kieffer is proven at Championship level, scoring 20 goals in his first season at Cardiff, which earned him his move to Bournemouth. At 31, he is experienced and knows what it takes to get promoted out of the Championship, so any club that gets his signature is onto a winner."

Nonetheless, a new name could potentially be on his way to Elland Road as Leeds United push to get a deal over the line for his signature, according to latest developments.

Leeds United pushing to sign Fabio Carvalho

According to transfer guru Romano, Leeds United are pushing to sign Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho on loan, though face competition from Championship sides Southampton, Hull City and Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers to bring in the Portugal Under-21 international. Contact has been made between the top six clubs in the Championship, therefore Leeds, and the Reds over a potential deal and they are waiting on the players' camp to decide where his best option would be.

Labelled a "special player" by Jurgen Klopp, Carvalho has recently returned from a brief stint at Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig due to receiving limited first-team minutes at the Red Bull Arena.

In 2023/24, the 21-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions, though he is yet to register a goal or an assist, illustrating that his spell with RB Leipzig didn't work out for either party (Carvalho statistics – Transfermarkt).

Injured Anrich Nortje out of World Cup, Chris Morris called up

The fast bowler has a fractured right thumb and will need six to eight weeks to make a full recovery

South Africa’s World Cup plans have been dealt a blow after fast bowler Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the tournament because of a fractured thumb. Chris Morris has been called up as his replacement.Having overcome ankle and shoulder injuries over the course of the summer, Nortje made his international debut in March this year and subsequently won selection in South Africa’s World Cup squad. Nortje, however, fractured his right thumb during a recent South Africa nets session, and it has now been confirmed that he would need six to eight weeks to make a full recovery.”Anrich sustained a fracture to his right thumb during a net session in Port Elizabeth on Monday,” South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee said. “He immediately consulted a hand surgeon and underwent surgery to stabilise the joint and will unfortunately be sidelined for up to eight weeks. This makes him unavailable for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.”It is an unfortunate and freakish injury, especially because he had made a successful recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained during the series against Sri Lanka. He has had a few injury setbacks in the last year but knowing Anrich’s character, he will be motivated to come back stronger. We wish him a speedy recovery.”Allrounder Morris, 32, has been called up to replace Nortje in the 15-man squad, with South Africa’s opening game against England just over three weeks away. Morris has not played an ODI in more than a year, but was part of the T20I squad that battered Sri Lanka at home in March. Morris is currently in action with Delhi Capitals in the IPL, for whom he has taken 13 wickets in nine games this season.Chris Morris cleaned up Chris Lynn with a superb yorker•Getty Images

“Chris has always been in our plans and is our next best option with the ball,” national selection panel convener Linda Zondi said. “He has the pace and death-bowling skills which will be vital in the UK, and also gives us that depth as a deadly finisher with the bat. We have had concerns around his injuries and workload capabilities but this is an opportunity for him to make a mark on the biggest stage.”It is unfortunate what has happened to Anrich, he is a talented player with exciting potential,” added Zondi. “We wish him well on his road to recovery and have no doubt that he will bounce back to fulfil his potential.”South Africa have been dealing with multiple injuries in the lead up to the World Cup, with Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn’s IPL stints cut short by back and shoulder problems, respectively. While Rabada has said that his premature return to South Africa was “precautionary”, both he and Steyn are both still being assessed by the South African medical team. Rabada has a history of back trouble, having picked up a stress fracture last year, while Steyn’s flare-up was in the same shoulder that he seriously injured in Australia in 2016.Left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi had missed South Africa’s domestic T20 competition in order to recover from a stiff back too, while JP Duminy was out of action for most of the summer following shoulder surgery. Both Shamsi and Duminy have fully recovered, though.”Admittedly, the injuries ahead of the tournament have been frustrating but I continue to have confidence that the players we have selected will make the country proud,” Zondi added.Squad (updated): Faf du Plessis (capt), JP Duminy, David Miller, Dale Steyn, Andile Phehlukwayo, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Dwaine Pretorius, Quinton de Kock (wk), Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Hashim Amla, Tabraiz Shamsi

Liverpool eyeing "superb" 20 year-old Salah successor in January transfer

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for a "superb" young player in the January transfer window, potentially seeing him as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future

Salah's future has been a major talking point of late, with the 31-year-old the subject of a huge £150m bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last summer. The Reds rejected their advances, ensuring their star player stayed put for another season, but their interest is almost certain to return later this year, and there is another unnamed Middle East club in contact for Salah now too.

Liverpool will no doubt be braced for offers for the Egyptian superstar, who continues to stand out as comfortably his side's most relentless attacking player, and he will have to make a big decision over his future at the end of the season. His contract is up at Anfield next year, so he will either have to sign an extension in 2024, or find a new challenge.

The better outcome is to see Salah remain on Merseyside, considering he is still one of the best players in world football, but if he does move on, it is essential that the Reds bring in a spectacular replacement during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool eyeing Johan Bakayoko

According to Caught Offside, PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko is seen as a target for Liverpool, with a move even potentially happening this month, due to Salah's involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

"Sources with a close understanding of the situation inside Anfield have informed CaughtOffside that Liverpool have as many as six main names on their list of targets for defence, midfield, and attack, with the latter being something they could be tempted to look at closely this January due to the absence of Mohamed Salah, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt."

Bakayoko looks like a player of immense potential, being hailed as a "superb" footballer by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, and enjoying a wonderful season for PSV to date, chipping in with 11 goal contributions (three goals and eight assists) in 16 Eredivisie appearances.

Still only 20 years of age, Bakayoko has Salah's ability to cut inside onto his left foot from a right-sided attacking role, and he is already producing such impressive levels of end product, despite his tender years. While the Belgian likely wouldn't be able to come straight in and hit the heights of the Liverpool legend from the off, he could be an eye-catching long-term addition at Anfield, with his potential clearly through the roof.

Bakayoko could even be a great signing even if Salah stays this summer, arriving as a squad player, before eventually usurping the Egypt legend when he does finally drift past his peak.

Therefore, the fact the 19-year-old was partying with the Red Devils players has left a bitter taste in the mouth of many of United's employees as they were not invited to the post-Wembley triumph.

This comes amid the news that United's non-football staff were reportedly given a week to decide if they want to continue working at the Red Devils as Ratcliffe looks to decrease spending. A spokesperson for the club said: "This isn't a voluntary redundancy programme. The club recognises that not everyone wants to work from the office full-time so has provided options for staff who don't wish to return to the office to step away now."
