A typically explosive start from Marcus Trescothick set the platform for James Hildreth’s fluent fifty, and a slick all-round performance from Somerset’s bowling attack meant Surrey were never able to launch a full assault on the target.Trescothick, who is the competition’s leading runscorer by some distance, continued his rich vein of form to put together an opening stand of 58 in five overs with a far more subdued Peter Trego. He slammed three fours and a six in the first five balls of Yasir Arafat’s second over to motor to 35 from just 16 deliveries, but was then clean bowled heaving at the sixth to give Surrey some respite.Zafar Ansari’s introduction in the seventh over tempered Somerset even further, as he conceded just three runs from his first six deliveries and generally denied the batsmen the opportunity to score. The frustration eventually got to Trego, who ran past a flighted delivery to be stumped for a run-a-ball 27.Jos Buttler gave a teasing taster of his talent in a short cameo that included some audacious shots before getting a thin edge on a bouncer from Stuart Meaker, who used the short ball to good effect to get rid of a threatening Kieron Pollard two overs later. Somerset had passed 160 by that stage, however, and although Dirk Nannes returned to shatter Craig Meschede’s stumps and ensure there would be no late boost the total was already a formidable one.It looked all the more so when Lewis Gregory trapped a subdued Rory Hamilton-Brown in front of his stumps for 1 from seven deliveries to mute what had already been a lacklustre start to the chase by Surrey. An impregnable off-side field cut down Steve Davies’ scoring options as he managed just 22 from 20 balls before holing out to legspinner Max Waller, and though Jason Roy managed to keep the innings afloat wickets fell at regular intervals.This match was played on the same strip as that used in England’s one-day international against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, but where the spinners were generally expensive in that game, tonight they were frugal and incisive. After Waller’s impressive start, Arul Suppiah’s left-arm spin got past Tom Maynard, Roy and Matthew Spriegel in successive overs as Surrey’s innings was completely derailed at 70 for 5 in the 12th over.Waller had a desperate Zander de Bruyn stumped by a distance soon afterwards, and some bright hitting from Arafat did little to brighten the mood of a decently large Oval crowd. Ansari showed that he has talent with bat as well as ball in an enterprising 24, but by then the game was dead and Somerset’s fifth Twenty20 win of the season was assured. The two points they earned took them up to second in the Points Table behind Hampshire.

Such is Somerset’s start to the season as they seek – with renewed conviction – to justify their billing as favourites to win the Championship for the first time. Worcestershire needed 257 on this, the third day, which in the past would have been quite feasible at Taunton. The pitch, though, was still giving assistance to the medium pacers and there was some swing under the cloud cover. Ultimately it was no contest, Gemaal Hussain finishing with career best figures of 6 for 33.Poor Worcestershire have now played four, lost four. Talking of conviction, there is precious little about their batting. Their bowlers, particularly Damien Wright, who took 6 for 56, had done notably well in dismissing Somerset for 185, but a first innings lead of 71, coupled with the accuracy of Somerset’s attack and some fine slip catching resulted ultimately in a straightforward triumph.”It was a different type of game to what is customary at Taunton,” said Hussain, who left Gloucestershire in the winter in the hope his England ambitions would come to pass. “There was some assistance in the pitch but we still had to bowl in the right areas. Length was the key. Which is my favourite end? That is a challenge for me. I enjoyed the pitch – and the whole match.”Somerset had begun the day with a lead of 154, seven wickets intact, which was sufficiently ominous for their opponents. The fact that James Hildreth, nightwatchman Steve Kirby, Craig Kieswetter and Peter Trego went in quick succession, three of them to slip catches, told of the continuing dominance of ball over bat. Or, it might be added, the lack of sufficiently resolute technique.Lewis Gregory also went cheaply, likewise caught in the slips, which left Somerset greatly dependent on Jos Buttler to ensure they would reach a lead of getting on for 300, which was what Kirby had emphasised would be needed. Wright utilised the conditions extremely well, maintaining an accurate line from the Old Pavilion End, but he could not make this all-important breakthrough.Buttler may be short of runs this season, but evidently not of self-belief. On several occasions he moved down the pitch to Alan Richardson’s quickish medium, flat-batting him for four and then swinging him over the square leg boundary. This was altogether too much for the old stager, who on his 36th birthday was spoken to by umpire John Steele for too much ‘lip’ towards the precocious batsman.At lunch, Buttler was four short of a half century, having struck nine fours and that six. Charl Willoughby was his one surviving partner, but batting is not his strong suit. He was held at third man in the first over upon resumption, leaving Worcestershire the best part of five sessions to gain a rare victory. It was swiftly apparent that there was scant chance of that.Daryl Mitchell went to an in-ducker from Willoughby and James Cameron edged Hussain to second slip off the bottom of the bat. Then, the former Gloucestershire seamer effectively won the match with two wickets in an over: Moeen Ali, who had just survived a strong appeal, edged him to second slip, where Marcus Trescothick held a sharp catch. Three balls later, Alexei Kervezee was taken at the wicket off one that Hussain cut the other way.Matt Pardoe followed, bowled by Trego and, when Vikram Solanki drove Hussain too ppishly to extra cover, Worcestershire’s fleeting chances had gone. Gareth Andrew went to the first ball after tea, leg before to Kirby, Wright was very well taken at first slip by Hildreth off Willoughby, and, when Hussain changed ends, he had Jack Shantry leg before. And that was just about that.

– A convocação foi coerente com aquilo que o Tite se propõe fazer na Copa do Mundo. As questões difíceis foram em duas situações. A primeira na escolha entre Arthur e Fred, e ele entendeu que precisa mais da infiltração do Fred, que é um jogador que ajuda nos movimentos ofensivos entre linhas. Arthur é de um valor extraordinário, mas é um jogador mais de base de jogada. A Seleção Brasileira precisa mais do tipo de movimento que o Fred faz. A outra situação foi Juliano ou Taison. Aí entendo que o Tite pensou na pequena possibilidade de precisar desses dois jogadores na Copa. O Taison oferece mais, atacando pelos lados, fazendo movimento do lado para o centro no um contra um. É um jogador mais agudo, pode ser mais útil – afirmou o jornalista.

Porém, Eduardo Mansell sentiu falta de um nome na lista de Tite. Para o jornalista, o técnico não poderia ter deixado de lado um dos jogadores de maior destaque no futebol nacional.

– Não podemos dizer que tem surpresas na lista se analisarmos pelo lado da coerência. Entendo que Tite confie em jogadores com quem trabalhou. Mas nada justifica, por exemplo, a ausência de Luan. Mais grave do que aconteceu em 2010, quando Dunga foi pisoteado pela imprensa por deixar o Neymar de fora, que sequer tinha ainda torneios internacionais no currículo. Luan foi eleito o melhor jogador da última Copa Libertadores e da América, além de ter experiência com Seleção. Ele foi decisivo no ouro olímpico. Mudaria isso na convocação, que no mais não revela grandes sustos – afirmou Mansell.

O Brasil estreia contra a Suíça no domingo, dia 17 de junho, às 15h, em Rostov do Don. O segundo jogo da primeira fase ocorre numa sexta-feira, dia 22 de junho, às 9h, em São Petersburgo, contra Costa Rica.

It was his comeback after all and by his own admission he didn’t make the batsmen play that much early on because he “didn’t have much match practice”. The four-wicket haul would have been heart-warming, as there would have been enormous pressure on him after replacing Kemar Roach. “It must have been hard [for Roach]; I was glad that I was playing. It felt really good to do well. It was good to come back after missing out on so much Test cricket.”Edwards was the finisher, it was Bishoo who left India in trouble. In the end, Bishoo didn’t need to set up India’s top-order batsman. His stock ball, the legbreak, did the job on its own without any elaborate planning. In 14 deliveries, with the wickets of Laxman, Dravid and Dhoni, he had driven a spear through India’s heart.It came as a bit of a surprise. It’s not that Bishoo didn’t bowl well; he bowled really well, but the Indian top-order fell without much fight. Laxman drove loosely at the first ball he faced from Bishoo; Dhoni stabbed out at his first delivery. The best ball was the one that removed Dravid. He slipped couple of deliveries short in that over and Dravid put them away to the boundary with utter ease. Then Bishoo tossed one up and got it to dip and turn. But with Andre Adams taking four wickets to boost his season tally to 49, Durham were rocking on 197 for 6, prompting Di Venuto to drop anchor in the final session.He had all but survived it when he played back and edged Steven Mullaney to wicketkeeper Chris Read in the penultimate over. With Ben Stokes returning to four-day action in place of the injured Steve Harmison, Durham had opted for the extra batsman and had skipper Phil Mustard going in at number eight.He survived a streaky start to contribute 45 to his stand of 74 with Di Venuto and was still there on 46 at the close. Durham won the toss for the 11th time in 12 championship games and chose to bat, despite the sultry heat providing good conditions for swing bowling.New-ball pair Darren Pattinson and Charlie Shreck posed little threat as Di Venuto and Will Smith put on 54. ESPNcricinfo staff24-Aug-2011Keith Bradshaw, the former Tasmania cricketer who became the first Australian secretary and chief executive of MCC, has announced he will be returning home for personal reasons after almost five years in the job.Bradshaw, who became the club’s 14th secretary when he joined in October 2006, played a key role in transforming the reputation of MCC, and on his watch the club has become one of the most progressive voices in world cricket.Key initiatives have included the promotion of floodlit first-class cricket, through the development of a revolutionary pink ball that can be sighted against the night sky. The traditional curtain-raiser to the English season, MCC v Champion County, was in 2010 moved from Lord’s to Abu Dhabi to help test the concept in a competitive environment.In addition, the MCC Spirit of Cricket message has been widely promoted around the world – through a partnership with the Indian Premier League, as well as MCC’s first sponsorship of international cricket, the neutral Test series between Pakistan and Australia, which was hosted at Lord’s and Headingley last summer.Also, funds were provided for numerous cricket projects around the world – such as in Afghanistan – and the MCC World Cricket Committee established itself as an influential voice in the world game.”It is with considerable regret that the MCC Committee has accepted the resignation of Keith Bradshaw, confirmed Christopher Martin-Jenkins, the club chairman. “From his first day as secretary and chief executive, Keith has been a breath of fresh air at Lord’s and he has made an outstanding contribution towards the high standing and role of the club both domestically and internationally.”His open and positive attitude has been infectious to all those around him and he can be very proud of his numerous achievements at MCC.
