Rangers: Ryan Kent dominated Dortmund

Rangers enjoyed a sensational night in Europe as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team won 4-2 away from home on Thursday night.

The Gers were handed the perfect chance to take the lead against Borussia Dortmund when they were awarded a penalty, with the help of VAR. The ever-reliable James Tavernier placed the ball down on the spot and calmly tucked it away from 12-yards to make it 1-0.

Alfredo Morelos quickly made it two as he was quickest to react to a Joe Aribo flick-on from a corner to tap into an empty net from a yard out. John Lundstram made it 3-0 shortly after the half-time break, before Jude Bellingham quickly erased that goal with a fine strike from the edge of the box almost straight from kick-off.

An own goal from Dan-Axel Zagadou made it 4-1, as Morelos’ ball across the box bounced off him and rolled into the corner. Dortmund then pulled another back late on as Guerreiro curled in a superb strike from 25 yards.

Forget Morelos

Whilst Morelos led the line brilliantly and played a direct hand in multiple goals, another Rangers star dominated the Westfalenstadion, namely Ryan Kent.

The English winger was electric from start to finish and set the tempo for the Gers with his early pressing off the ball and direct play in possession. His energy rubbed off on his teammates and played a major role in their fast start to the game, which then set up the rest of their performance to secure this huge victory.

The £18k-per-week gem dominated Dortmund on and off the ball. Defensively, he won an impressive ten of his 15 duels, also making four tackles and two interceptions whilst playing in a forward position. This shows how enthusiastic he was throughout the match, as he worked his socks off when out of possession to win the ball back for his side whilst also cutting out opposition attacks.

Offensively, he was a menace all night. As per SofaScore, he completed four of his six attempted dribbles and created three chances for his team-mates. One of those opportunities was tucked away brilliantly by Lundstram, after Kent’s excellent play down the flank to work the opening.

This shows that the 25-year-old had a massive impact at both ends of the pitch for Rangers, typifying their ambitious approach to the game. He dominated the pitch on and off the ball and the only thing missing from his display was a goal, but he did more than enough creatively to not need to get on the act himself.

Van Bronckhorst will surely be over the moon with Kent’s performance and hoping that he continues to deliver similar levels in the Premiership in the coming weeks, along with another masterclass in the reverse leg at Ibrox against Dortmund next week.

Nottinghamshire on top despite defeat

Scorecard
Leaders Nottinghamshire crashed to a 210-run defeat against Durham at Chester-le-Street but still hold a commanding lead with two games remaining in County Championship Division One.Nottinghamshire took six points from the match to lead Somerset by 22, and Yorkshire, who go to Trent Bridge next week, are a further three adrift. After being set a victory target of 391 in 78 overs, on a pitch on which Durham added 82 in just over an hour in the morning, the visitors’ attempts to bat out the day were undermined by Ben Harmison suddenly taking three wickets in four balls. With Mark Davies taking no further part after developing a sciatic nerve problem on the second day, Durham also lost Liam Plunkett, who limped off after bowling two overs with the new ball. Harmison was on for the fifth over of the innings and conceded 24 in four overs before lunch. There was a wide in his first over after the break, but with the score on 51 for one he suddenly got it right in his seventh over.Alex Hales pushed forward and edged to Michael Di Venuto at second slip and the next ball, perfectly pitched on off stump, bounced steeply. Australian Adam Voges, also pushing forward, edged it to wicketkeeper Phil Mustard. The hat-trick ball was short and wide, allowing Samit Patel to collect two easy runs, but the next delivery pinned him lbw on the back foot.A stand of 30 between Mark Wagh and Ali Brown was broken by Ian Blackwell, who had both lbw and later had Luke Fletcher caught at silly mid-off to finish with three for 23 in 19 overs. Harmison had 4 for 70, his final victim being Chris Read, who drove wide of off stump and edged low to third slip, where substitute Gareth Breese held a good catch.Andre Adams, slogging at almost every ball, skied a catch to mid-on off Mitch Claydon, and the only resistance came from Steven Mullaney. He was last out for 64, skying an attempted pull off Scott Borthwick for Mustard to take the catch 10 minutes before the start of the final hour.Durham’s fifth win of the season ended any relegation worries, but their hopes of a title hat-trick remain minuscule. Nottinghamshire need only five points from two games to deny them. In the morning Blackwell had failed to add to his 50, edging Fletcher to Read, but Borthwick played beautifully for the second time in the match, scoring 43 in an unbroken stand of 79 with Mustard, who was on 51 when he declared with the score on 361 for 6.

Forget Son: Kane ran Spurs show at Villa

Harry Kane continued his fine form as the creative hub of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur side as they thrashed Aston Villa in their own backyard on Saturday evening.

The win puts Spurs in a very healthy position in the race for the top four, leaving it in their own hands heading into the final month of the 2021/22 season.

Heung-min Son will take plenty of the plaudits, haunting the Midlands outfit – as he often does – with a hat-trick as he and his attacking teammates put in a clinical masterclass.

A trio of fine finishes with an equally sublime effort from Dejan Kulusevski sealed the victory up at Villa Park and it moved them three points clear of arch-rivals Arsenal in fourth place.

Kane may appear to have taken a backseat on the night, failing to score for a third game running in the Premier League, but he was once again a major creative outlet as he contributed his eighth and ninth assists of the season, in which five have come in that barren three-game run.

One of these assists saw him flick on a long ball from Cristian Romero straight into the path of Son, who raced in between the two Villa centre-backs before slotting past ex-Gunners goalkeeper Emi Martinez with aplomb.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-martinez-dybala-spence-conte-2” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

With the likes of Brighton, Brentford, Burnley and Norwich City on the horizon, Conte will be delighted with the way his side – particularly Kane – is playing.

On top of those two assists, he was also involved in a third with another well-timed and pin-point header, and he also registered three successful dribbles, made 93% of his 15 passing attempts and won a whopping 14 duels, both on the ground and in the air, as he had Three Lions’ teammate Tyrone Mings’ number all game.

Indeed, just as analyst Statman Dave suggested on Twitter, it was a “complete CF display” from England’s no.9. Meanwhile, the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick dubbed the £90m-rated talisman “decisive”, with football.london’s Tom Clark also described the form Kane’s in as “ridiculous” even without scoring.

Both Mings and Ezri Konsa will be having nightmares following that display from Kane and without him, you’d have to wonder if Son would’ve got the chances he did.

The 28-year-old striker is one of the most important cogs to this Conte system and we witnessed a creative masterclass at Villa Park. He ran the proceedings, there’s no doubt about that.

Afghanistan ready to tour Pakistan – Khaliq Dad

Afghanistan seamer Khaliq Dad has leant his support to Pakistan, saying his side was ready to travel to the terror-hit country when other international teams were reluctant to play there

Afghanistan seamer Khaliq Dad has lent his support to Pakistan, saying his team was ready to travel to the terror-hit country though other international sides were reluctant to do so.Dad, who led Afghanistan’s youth team to victory in a club-level tournament in Karachi, said, “It is always fantastic to play in Pakistan and I sincerely hope that international cricket returns to this cricket-loving country.”Pakistan has been a no-go zone for international teams since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore last year. Following the attack, the ICC stripped Pakistan of its matches in the 2011 World Cup and forced them to play what would have been their home series in UAE, New Zealand and England.Dad also endorsed the growing interest for the game in Afghanistan, following the national side’s rise through the ranks from the lower divisions of the World Cricket League to playing in the 2010 World Twenty20. “You saw the talent in the team and this is because cricket is now a craze in Afghanistan. From south to west, we have more and more interest in the game and more academies have opened and more companies are coming into the game.”It may sound incredible, but I tell you girls are taking a big interest in cricket and, although the society restrictions mean women’s cricket will take some time, interest is huge,” he said.

Newcastle must axe Emil Krafth

Newcastle United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven matches as they face off against Brentford today.

The Magpies are on a terrific run of form in the division that has lifted them out of the bottom three in the table, with three straight wins over Everton, Aston Villa and Leeds United propelling them above the likes of Norwich, Watford and Burnley.

Their last match ended in a 1-1 draw away at West Ham and Eddie Howe is surely hoping that his side can return to winning ways against the Bees.

Axe him

One decision the ex-Bournemouth manager must make in order to give his team the best chance of picking up the three points is ruthlessly axing Emil Krafth from the XI.

The Swedish full-back started at right-back with Kieran Trippier and Javier Manquillo both out injured and failed to make a positive impression.

As per SofaScore, he lost three of his five duels and failed to make a single tackle, block or interception throughout the 90 minutes, whilst making just two clearances. He also gave possession away (18) almost as many times as he completed a pass (20).

Former Arsenal icon Ian Wright previously blasted the defender as being “out of his depth” and ex-Magpies defender Steve Howey reacted to his comments, saying:

“I think the lad has struggled a bit, but he’s not the only one. He has been criticised very heavily, I think from Ian Wright, who said he was well out of his depth.

“There have been times when he’s had an afternoon of turmoil but listen, he could be a player that comes back in next season and gets better.”

Unfortunately for Howey and Newcastle, Krafth has not kicked on this season and improved on his troubling displays on the pitch.

Instead, he has continued to be a liability on the pitch in the Premier League this season as he has averaged a dreadful WhoScored rating of 6.31. This is lower than the score of 6.47 he managed in the top-flight last term, which suggests that he has struggled throughout the campaign.

Howe has confirmed that Manquillo has returned to training and the Spaniard is one option to replace Krafth, although it remains to be seen whether he is fit enough to start. The head coach could also bring Jacob Murphy back into right-back and play Miguel Almiron out wide if Allan Saint-Maximin misses out.

Espancado por jogador após festejar gol, gandula é goleiro e fazia bico para pagar faculdade: 'R$ 50'

MatériaMais Notícias

A cena assustadora rodou o mundo.

Estou no quinto semestre e estudo no período noturno.

É erguer a cabeça e voltar a treinar. A vida continua.

Rangers player ratings vs Braga

Glasgow Rangers went through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League with a 3-1 win at home on Thursday night.

Two goals from James Tavernier and one from Kemar Roofe in extra-time was enough to see off Braga in the end, who had two men sent off.

It was not always plain-sailing for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team at Ibrox, as Braga managed to take the game to extra-time late on despite being a man light, while they were guilty of squandering a lot of chances, managing a whopping 31 shots on goal in total, but only five on target.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-3/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

As such, The Transfer Tavern have now used statistical experts SofaScore to analyse who the three worst performers (to have played at least 45 minutes) were for the hosts on the night – could these men be looking over their shoulders regarding their places in GvB’s XI?

Calvin Bassey

Given a 6.8 overall rating, Bassey ranked as the Teddy Bears’ third-worst player.

The central defender lost out on four of his duels, while he also failed to record a single interception or tackle, and gave the ball away a total of 18 times.

Kemar Roofe

Despite his goal in extra-time, Roofe was only given a 6.7 rating.

The striker lost a team-high 12 of his duels, and was also off target with three of his other efforts on goal, missing two big chances in the process.

Roofe also made no successful dribbles, interceptions, tackles or key passes, and committed a team-high three fouls, losing possession ten times in total.

Allan McGregor

Perhaps unluckily given he did not have too much to do, McGregor was ranked as the Light Blues’ worst performer with a 6.5 rating.

The goalkeeper did concede from one of the only two shots on target that he faced though, and gave the ball away needlessly on seven separate occasions.

West Ham must reignite Tarkowski interest

West Ham United have conceded 43 goals in 33 Premier League games so far this season, leaving only Leicester City (50) and Manchester United (44) having conceded more in the top half of the league table.

With the next summer transfer window on the horizon, this could give the east London club a chance to strengthen their squad at the back and make them tougher to score against moving forward.

If this ends up being an area GSB look to do some business in once the window opens, one player that could fit the bill for what they need is one that they previously tried to sign but were unsuccessful is James Tarkowski.

Back in the 2020 summer transfer window, the Hammers were heavily linked with a move for the Burnley centre-back but were not able to take him away from Turf Moor.

However, with the Lancashire club having sacked Sean Dyche recently and being in danger of getting relegated, this summer could be the opportune time for the east London club to reignite their interest in the defender and actually work out a deal for him this time around.

Since arriving at Burnley back in 2016, the 29-year-old has made 213 appearances for the Clarets across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and five assists.

To highlight what a capable defender the Englishman is, no other Burnley player has managed to make more tackles, blocks, clearances or interceptions than Tarkowski.

In addition to this, he is currently listed as the highest-rated player at the club with an overall performance rating of 7.03/10 from WhoScored.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why Burnley journalist Andy Jones described the centre-back as “sensational” last month.

Having also been labelled as being “solid as a rock” for Burnley by Alex James back in 2019, this shows the consistency Tarkowski has delivered in his performances over the years and why the Hammers were after him in 2020.

Moving forward, if Burnley do end up getting relegated to the Championship at the end of this season, GSB should definitely be ready to pounce on a potential deal that would finally see the £70k-per-week machine make a move to the London Stadium.
