Chileno Leonardo Valencia assina contrato de três anos com o Botafogo

MatériaMais Notícias

Acabou a espera.

Liverpool fans love Keita piece of skill

A number of Liverpool supporters have been left stunned by a brilliant piece of skill by Naby Keita while on international duty with Guinea.

The Reds drew 2-2 at home to Manchester City last Sunday, before the international break got underway.

Jurgen Klopp’s men aren’t back in action until October 16th when they make a trip to Vicarage Road to take on newly-promoted Watford.

[freshpress-quiz id=“375258″]

One player who could feature in that game is Keita, with the 26-year-old falling out of favour a little lately, not coming on at all against City.

Jordan Henderson is struggling for form, however, and the Guinean could be seen as a good option to come in.

On Thursday, an eye-catching clip of Keita producing a superb piece of skill emerged on Twitter [via Lewis Bower], with the midfielder nutmegging his opponent with a cheeky back-heel along the sideline.

Man Utd fans slam Paul Pogba vs Aston Villa

A number of Manchester United fans have criticised the display of Paul Pogba in their 1-0 loss at home to Aston Villa at Saturday lunchtime.

It was a disappointing performance at Old Trafford all round from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, who conceded to a Kortney Hause goal from a late corner kick, before Bruno Fernandes blazed a penalty way over the bar in injury time.

Pogba was certainly not at his best, losing out on six of his duels – the most of any of his teammates – as he also failed to make any accurate crosses or long balls and lost possession of the ball on 21 separate occasions, the most out of any outfield player (Sofascore).

It does beg the question whether Solskjaer should continue playing him off the left, or restore him to his more natural centralised position.

West Brom handed quadruple injury boost

West Bromwich Albion have been handed a quadruple injury boost ahead of their upcoming Championship clash.

What’s the latest?

According to a report by Birmingham Live, all of David Button, Callum Robinson, Cedric Kipre and Kyle Bartley could be in line for a return to first-team action in Albion’s clash with Millwall this Saturday.

All three of Button, Robinson and Bartley had previously been ruled out of action due to illness, while Kipre picked up a knock in the Carabao Cup loss to Arsenal and subsequently missed the Peterborough United victory.

Meanwhile, centre-back duo Matt Clarke and Dara O’Shea are definitely out of contention for the fixture this weekend, while the progress of Rayhaan Tulloch’s recovery from a groin injury is likely to be assessed by the Baggies on Friday.

Ismael will be buzzing

While the ongoing absence of Clarke and the recent long-term loss of O’Shea are sure to come as a blow to Valerien Ismael, the likely returns of the quartet of Button, Robinson, Kipre and Bartley will undoubtedly have the Frenchman buzzing.

Indeed, Kipre’s return to fitness is perhaps the most timely for the Albion boss, as the 24-year-old will be a candidate to replace the injured O’Shea, although 18-year-old Caleb Taylor is believed to be in contention for the Millwall game, as is new signing Kean Bryan.

The return of Robinson will also be a major boost for the 45-year-old manager, as the forward has been in electric form for the Baggies so far this season, scoring three goals, registering one assist and averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.42 over his four Championship appearances.

As such, aside from the stricken centre-back duo, Ismael very nearly has a full squad to chose from, something that bodes incredibly well for the club’s chances of continuing their fantastic early season form this weekend.

Everton rocked by Richarlison injury blow

As Everton took to the field to prepare for their clash with Aston Villa on Saturday evening, there were some glaring absences in the Toffees line-up.

Rafa Benitez already knew before the weekend that he would be missing star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin but he will now have to make do with a number of other key faces too.

Seamus Coleman has suffered a hamstring problem while Jordan Pickford is also set to spend two to three weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder issue.

However, the biggest blow relates to Richarlison. He was on the end of a meaty and controversial tackle by James Tarkowski against Burnley a week ago which went unpunished.

The Brazilian was complaining about his knee in the days afterwards and then didn’t make the clash against Villa at the weekend. Sadly, he will also miss the next fortnight of action.

Speaking about the injury after the 24-year-old missed out on the squad for Everton’s defeat in the Midlands, Benitez commented: “I think that the only thing we can do is what we did, to say we’re not happy with that, that’s it.

“I think that they know. Maybe not on the day of the game, but afterwards it was obvious for everyone.

“It’s something that we have to be very careful about, the kind of physical contact we allow this year. It’s clear for everyone and hopefully we will not see more players injured for these kind of things.”

The Everton boss is understandably seething with the situation, especially with Calvert-Lewin already out, and now the Toffees will have to make do without the two players they’d usually rely on for goals.

Richarlison has only scored once this season but found the net on 13 occasions last term, adding to the 21 goals that his English team-mate produced.

Considering that Everton are also missing their chief creator from last season in James Rodriguez, it doesn’t bode well for their fortunes over the next few weeks.

Cenk Tosun has returned to training so he could be utilised, but for now you sense that Salomon Rondon will lead the line.

The issue with that is that the 32-year-old struggled on his first start for the club last weekend. The powerful Venezuelan forward was taken off in the 63rd minute having completed just five passes at a success rate of 38%. He also lost the ball every 1.6 touches in a dismal showing.

After their first defeat of the season, Benitez will need to pick his players back up, but that will be a challenge without Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin in their ranks for the next few weeks.

Newcastle: Wilson injury severity revaled

Newcastle United could be without striker Callum Wilson for another month, according to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh.

The lowdown

The 29-year-old injured his quad muscle in the 2-2 draw with Southampton prior to the international break and was missing for the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday.

The striker has scored twice already this season, finding the net against the Saints and on the opening weekend against West Ham United.

In 2020/21, Wilson led the way for both goals (12) and assists (five) in the Newcastle squad. Last December, Steve Bruce said that the ‘wonderful’ striker had ‘made the difference since he walked through the door’ at St James’ Park, sentiments which are backed up by the player’s goal contribution figures.

The latest

Wilson’s ‘initial prognosis was believed to be’ a six-week lay-off, according to Waugh, and he is only two weeks into that. Therefore, ‘there’s a chance’ that he won’t be back in action until after the October international break.

Newcastle host Leeds United on Friday before trips to Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with their next three opponents all 13th or lower as the Magpies seek their first league win of the campaign.

The verdict

It’s only three more games without Wilson, but it could mean more pain for Newcastle. Last season, when he suffered the first of two hamstring injuries, the Magpies found themselves on a seven-game winless run.

The nadir came away to Brighton and Hove Albion in March, where a 3-0 defeat left Bruce’s side just two points above the bottom three.

Newcastle are already in the relegation zone this time around and it’s hard to see them escaping it without their attacking talisman.

In other news, Waugh has revealed the in-house reaction to this Steve Bruce move.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named Alviro Petersen as captain of a Board President’s XI team that consists solely of players from the Titans, Lions and Dolphins. The unavailability of several key players due to the ongoing Standard Bank Pro20 series, the final of which clashes with the tour game, has forced the selectors to pick a weakened side to face the Australians.CSA chief executive Gerald Majola said that due to so many players being involved in the Pro20 semi-finals, and the fact that the final was to be played on the opening day of the three-day tour game, it was not possible to name a proper A team.”We have restricted our choice largely to players from the Highveld Lions and the Nashua Titans,” said selection convener Mike Procter. “There is some very exciting young talent in this team and I am confident they will give a very good account of themselves.”The Cobras, Eagles, Warriors and Dolphins are currently locked in the semi-finals of the Pro20 tournament. CSA had released the likes of Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Neil McKenzie, Johan Botha, Herschelle Gibbs and Albie Morkel to represent their respective franchises during the ongoing series.Apart from Peterson, the squad includes Gulam Bodi and Vaughn van Jaarsveld, both with international experience. Imraan Khan is the only player to be named from the Dolphins. The three-day warm-up match will be played in Potchefstroom. The first Test between Australia and South Africa begins in Johannesburg three days later, on February 26.SA President’s XI: Alviro Petersen (capt), Craig Alexander, Gulam Bodi, Imraan Khan, Heino Kuhn, Ethy Mbhalati, Blake Snijman, Imran Tahir, Roelof van der Merwe, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, David Wiese.

Sri Lanka claim consolation victory

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
How they were out

Finally Sri Lanka showed up, prevented their first 5-0 series whitewash, and stopped India at nine ODI wins in a row. A turnaround began at the first toss they won in the series, continued with near-centuries from Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, and culminated in an energetic and smart show in the field. For 62 balls Yuvraj Singh played a dream knock, keeping India in the game despite wickets falling around him. When he became the fifth Indian to fall, for a dazzling 73 out of India’s 121 in the 22nd over, the 321-run target looked far away. But for that blitz from Yuvraj and a late-order collapse, Sri Lanka dominated the whole game, a feat that had looked unimaginable in the first four games.Perhaps the toss played a big part. This was only the second time Mahela Jayawardene beat Mahendra Singh Dhoni with the coin in the last 11 occasions. On a dry track, Sanath Jayasuriya and Dilshan provided Sri Lanka with the ideal start and feasted on the wayward trio of Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, and L Balaji, making his ODI comeback after more than three years. It was Jayasuriya who provided Sri Lanka with the springboard. During his short stay at the crease he beat the bowlers into submission. By the team Jayasuriya departed in the 11th over, after having displayed his trademark clip over midwicket, cut through point, the short-arm pull, and the loft over mid-off, Sri Lanka had reached 66.The pyrotechnics may have stopped upon Jayasuriya’s dismissal, but the runs kept coming at a fair pace. Sangakkara picked up boundaries regularly, minus the flashy strokeplay. The second ball he faced, Sangakkara reached out for a fullish delivery and cut it off the front foot for four. He also benefited from some wayward bowling from Virender Sehwag, who gave him a gift down the leg side at least once in his three overs. The fine-leg fielder was a busy man when Sehwag bowled, but in vain. Sehwag was replaced by another part-timer – India used six such bowlers, making it nine in all – but Sangakkara’s paddle to fine leg kept yielding him rich results. In all, Sangakkara took 28 runs behind square on the leg side.India tried to hustle through the middle overs, using all their dibbly-dobbly part-time spinners to bowl 21 overs between the drinks breaks, but all they managed to hurry was the scoring. Sangakkara’s slog-sweeping over midwicket was effective. He hit three fours and a six there, taking 23 runs in the midwicket region. But his final slog-sweep denied him a century and ended a 143-run partnership. It was easy to miss Dilshan with Jayasuriya and Sangakkara going hard, and he chose to stay inconspicuous, running hard between the wickets and waiting for the loose deliveries. He was especially severe outside off, finding the gaps through the covers consistently. Seventy of his runs, and eight of his nine boundaries, came through the point and cover region. His running with Sangakkara was exemplary, both of them often running seconds on the throw. This was Dilshan’s first half-century of the series, and could very easily have been a century but Dilshan became part of a late collapse. In his comeback spell, Ishant took two wickets in an over during a period when four wickets fell in six deliveries. As a result only 65 came in the last nine overs, and India were upbeat going into the chase. But all such notions were put to rest in the first three overs through some smart cricket by Jayasuriya and Sangakkara. First Jayasuriya moved to his left to take a sharp catch from Sehwag off Thilan Thushara, in the second over of the innings. In the next over Sangakkara, who stood up to the seamers right from the start of the innings, hung on to a thick edge from Suresh Raina.Yuvraj, though, didn’t slow down even as India kept losing top-order wickets. Yuvraj picked his fifth delivery from outside off and flicked it over square leg for four. That was about the worst his timing would get, and this was divinely timed. Mere pushes split the field and sped off for boundaries, flicks and half-lofts reached the boundary on the bounce, and those hit straight to the fielders took some stopping. Neither Nuwan Kulasekara, Farveez Maharoof nor Thushara was spared as Yuvraj picked the slower balls and swept with ease; one of them off Maharoof went for a huge six. Yuvraj reached his 50 in 46 balls, hitting 10 boundaries. The trouble was that two more wickets fell quickly, and Yuvraj had to keep the scoring-rate up. In the 22nd over of the innings he top-edged a sweep off Muttiah Muralitharan to give Sri Lanka the final fillip. At that time India needed 200 more in 28 overs, and as they looked to consolidate the asking-rate kept creeping on them. Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, the debutant, got half-centuries, but they were always racing against time. And the latter had a head start.

LFC fans react to Man City injury news

Liverpool fans believe Manchester City pair John Stones and Aymeric Laporte will end up being available for their Premier League clash next weekend, after reports ruled the pair out until the international break.

Jurgen Klopp’s side return to league action on Saturday, making the trip to Brentford after seeing off Norwich City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Liverpool may have one eye on their crucial meeting with City at Anfield on October 3rd, however, in what could be a key game in the title race.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

While the Reds suffered terrible luck with injuries to centre-backs last season, it’s now City who are struggling in that department.

According to The Daily Mail [via The Anfield Buzz on Twitter], both Stones and Laporte will miss the match through injury, meaning Nathan Ake may have to partner Ruben Dias in defence.
