Lamela open to leaving Tottenham

According to a report by The Athletic, Tottenham attacker Erik Lamela has now expressed an interest in leaving the club during this summer transfer window alongside the likes of Harry Winks and Serge Aurier.

The Lowdown: Sell-to-buy…

Tottenham will need to offload players this summer if they’re going to attack the market and bolster new manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad options ahead of 2021/22.

Many players have been named as possible outgoings in the last few months, including Aurier, Winks, Lamela, Moussa Sissoko, Lucas Moura and even Dele Alli (football.london), and The Athletic have brought an update on the situation involving potential exits.

The Latest: Lamela open to leaving Tottenham…

Lamela has now apparently expressed an interest in playing elsewhere this summer, with his stance on leaving seemingly unknown until now.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-3/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 29-year-old had been touted as a name to make way and The Athletic have now reported that he is open to doing just that. Lamela is joined by Aurier and Winks as other men who want to leave alongside defender Toby Alderweireld, with the latter apparently informing Spurs of his wishes a while ago.

The Verdict: Time to go…

The Argentine’s career in north London is perhaps best summed up by his contribution during Tottenham’s most recent derby with Arsenal in March.

In a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, Lamela scored one of the goals of the 2020/21 Premier League season, burying a sumptuous, improvised rabona into the bottom corner through a crowd of bodies. However, he later went on to receive a second yellow card and was subsequently dismissed for a hand-off into the face of Kieran Tierney (BBC).

Pundit Noel Whelan said at the start of the season that Lamela can be a ‘world beater’ on his day, but those glimpses of quality can be overshadowed by disciplinary problems and a torrid injury record.

Therefore, we believe that an exit for player would suit all parties this summer.

Kaif carries Indians to safety

Mohammad Kaif stood firm as the Indian tourists battled to a draw in their three-day match with West Indies A at Arundel

Sean Beynon18-Jul-2002Mohammad Kaif stood firm as the Indian tourists battled to a draw in theirthree-day match with West Indies A at Arundel.Kaif made 77 after the fall of early wickets had threatened to embarrass the Indians. At one stage, the West Indies’ reserves had reduced VVS Laxman’s side to 149/6, a fragile lead of 136.Seamer Jermaine Lawson seized wickets at regular intervals. The 20-year-oldJamaican returned figures of six for 76 his first five-wicket haul in 15 first-class matches. The Indians were dismissed for 255, the match effectively safe.West Indies A never looked like chasing 240 at six runs an over. Daren Gangawas clean bowled early by Ajit Agarkar, with Devon Smith, Donovan Pagon andLendl Simmons following in quick succession as the score slipped to 57/4. Ryan Hinds (10 not out) and Dwayne Bravo’s unbeaten 15 ensured there were no final twists and both captains settled for the draw.Kaif, whose unbeaten 87 led India to an extraordinary win in the NatWest series last week, remained confident throughout. He added 85 in as many minutes for the seventh wicket with Dinesh Mongia (27).Kaif hit eight fours and a six in his 126 ball-knock. He hits well through the covers and latches on to anything short with a textbook pull. The youngster looks to be another impressive find in an astonishing batting line-up. He will not play in the Test matches unless there are injuries.Lawson struck early on the third morning, picking up the impressive youngster Parthiv Patel for 20. Opener Wasim Jaffer eased to a competent fifty before he was brilliantly caught by a diving Ryan Hinds for 52. Simmons took another catch to give Reon King a second wicket, whileLawson wrapped the innings up as Ganga caught Kaif. This West Indian team is developing well; they are playing positive, livelycricket and appear to have shed the downcast, sloppy attitude that wassymptomatic the early part of the tour. They play Warwickshire on Saturday, eager for another strong showing.

Romano drops big Celtic claim

Writing on Twitter, reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano has made a Celtic transfer claim as he lifts the lid on yet another big development.

The Lowdown: Bhoys been busy…

Over this last week alone, Celtic have got Ange Postecoglou’s reign off to a brilliant start and have been very busy in the transfer window.

The Hoops have just confirmed the signings of both Liel Abada and Japan international Kyogo Furuhasi whilst also bolstering their youngsters in the B team.

Indeed, Celtic announced just yesterday evening that they had secured Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Bosun Lawal on a three-year deal from Watford, even beating Chelsea to his signature.

Now, Romano has lifted the lid on another big development.

The Latest: Romano makes exciting claim…

Making an exciting claim, the Italian reporter says Celtic have completed an agreement to sign Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt, and Postecoglou isn’t done there.

Indeed, on top of this, the Scottish giants are also on the hunt for a new right-back after sealing the Starfelt deal.

Celtic have a few candidates on the shortlist with ‘talks ongoing’ for Royal Antwerp ace Aurelio Buta.

“Celtic are looking for a new right back after agreement completed to sign Carl Starfelt as centre back from Rubin Kazan,” Romano tweeted.

“Brandon Soppy is one of the options – talks ongoing also with Royal Antwerp for Portuguese right back Aurélio Buta.”

The Verdict: Yet more big news…

Celtic appear to mean business this season as they aim to steal back the SPFL crown, with arch rivals Rangers halting their dominance last season.

The Hoops dominated over an imperious 10-year spell before Steven Gerrard’s side made it 55 and Celtic supporters will be hoping they can seize back control of the Scottish top flight.

Making this many moves – and nearly all for young talent – is certainly the right way to go about it and Postecoglou’s debut season as manager will be one of the most interesting campaigns in the last few years.

A partida marcará a estreia do técnico Milton Mendes no comando do time.

Rangers: Second bid for Kai Kennedy rejected

Rangers have rejected a second bid from West Ham United for Ibrox youngster Kai Kennedy, according to a recent report from Football Insider.

The lowdown: West Ham targeting move for Rangers forward

Kennedy has been a transfer target for West Ham for some time now, and has previously spoken out on the Hammers’ interest in signing him, but wouldn’t be torn on making a decision on his future.

“It is extremely flattering that West Ham have made an offer for me and it would be a great opportunity to be able to work with a top manager such as David Moyes, but I am a Rangers player until I am told otherwise.”

West Ham submitted their first offer for the forward on Monday 18th July, but it was swiftly rejected by the Gers, who are eager to keep hold of the 19-year-old. He spent last year’s campaign on loan with both Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers.

The latest: Second bid rejected

West Ham evidently aren’t giving up in their pursuit of the Rangers youngster, with Football Insider’s Ibrox source now reporting that the Scottish side have rejected their second offer for Kennedy’s services.

Kennedy is contracted with the Gers until the summer of 2023, and it remains to be seen as to whether West Ham will make a third offer for his services anytime soon.

But Steven Gerrard has moved him into their first-team plans now, with Kennedy previously training with the club’s ‘B’ team.

The verdict: A nervy few weeks ahead for the Gers

They’re clearly keen to keep hold of Kennedy for the foreseeable future, especially if they’ve recalled him to first-team training ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Kennedy scored one goal and was on hand to provide four assists in 19 appearances for Raith Rovers in his loan spell away from Ibrox last season, and it appears as though some of his strong performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

The diminutive winger still has two years remaining on his contract with Gerrard’s side, and it’ll be interesting to see whether he’s got serious role to play for the club’s first-team this season.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see West Ham come back with another offer for him though judging by their quick move to make a second bid, so the Gers may now face a real battle to stand firm.

Sunderland fans want club to sign Aburjania

Many Sunderland fans are desperate for the club to sign Giorgi Aburjania after the Black Cats were linked with a move for the Georgia international.

We are coming cloeer to the start of the 2021/22 campaign, yet the Wearsiders do not appear to be in the best position for the August kick-off. They have lost several players lately, including Josh Scowen, Grant Leadbitter and Max Power (The Northern Echo), while Charlie Wyke appears to be closing in on a move to Celtic (Football Insider). Not only that, they are yet to make a single summer signing as Lee Johnson’s side attempt to earn promotion to the Championship.

However, it does seem that they at least have some targets in mind. As per Spanish outlet Sport Cartagena, Sunderland are interested in signing 26-year-old midfielder Aburjania this summer. He has 22 caps for his country and currently plays in the Spanish second tier with Cartagena.

The news has been doing the rounds on Twitter and has attracted plenty of attention from Black Cats supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the links with the Georgian midfielder.

Let’s see what these fans had to say about the Aburjania rumour

“From these clips he looks solid defensively and can clearly pick out a pass. Looks very comfortable on the ball, doesn’t panic when pressured and can beat a few players also. This new scouting team may have found a gem here like.”

“A central midfielder who runs towards the opposition’s goal at pace using skill and technique coming to Sunderland, what type of witchcraft is this. This has to be fake news. I will believe it when he’s holding the strip!”

“After watching clips he’s the midfielder we have lacked for years, someone who can dribble and run with the ball with power and speed. Bring him in with that United lad and Embleton we will be solid.”

“The only issue is a work permit and how long it would take to sort one with the new rules. Hopefully the club have all this in place”

Hampshire Academy are Southern League Div II Champions

The Hampshire Academy are Southern Electric Premier League, Division 2 champions after pulling off their version of the Great Escape – and sending gallant Trojans down – at Stoneham Lane.Requiring only two points to clinch the title, the Young Hawks were staring an unexpected defeat in the face when Jamie Donaldson (5-25) and Paul Douglas (3-28) sent them crashing to 8-5 and then 26-6.But a lower-order revival, initiated by Mitchell Stokes (26) and Ian Hilsum (24), and driven by a timely 44 not out by David Griffiths, lifted the Academy to a match-winning 132 all out.”Some of the shot selection early on was poor, but Trojans bowled pretty well,” reflected Academy skipper Tony Middleton.”It was a great fightback by the lads. The lowerorder batted patiently and used their brains.”Trojans, in a last-ditch bid to stave off relegation, got away to a flying start, but began to falter when Mario Mohammed was run-out, unwisely taking on Tony Middleton’s arm from the boundary. In between a brace by Lawrie Prittipaul (2-12), Trojans progressed to 48-1 through Simon Williams (21) and Donaldson (20) … only to lose four wickets for nine runs. The Academy spinners seized the initiative, with Ian Hilsum (4-21) removing the dangerous Donaldson before cutting through the tail to end Trojans gallant resistance at 112.The Academy’s 20-run win lifts the Young Hawks into the top tier of Premier League cricket next season – and sentences Trojans to a year in Division 3.

PL questioned after Newcastle statement

Ian Mearns has questioned the Premier League after Newcastle United released a statement with regards to their upcoming arbitration case.

The Lowdown: Arbitration statement

The St. James’ Park have recently released a statement on their official website asking for the arbitration process to be made public.

However, this can only occur if the top flight agree to it as well, otherwise the process will remain behind closed doors.

In what can be described as bullish terms, the North East club also claimed that they have ‘nothing to hide’ with regards to the process, and even suggested that the Premier League should have ‘no reason to be afraid of the public spotlight’, providing that they have acted ‘lawfully and properly’, and therefore should be wanting to make it public too.

The Latest: Mearns on statement

Speaking to The Chronicle, Mearns, who is the local MP for Gateshead, has claimed that public transparency would be ‘very welcome’ from the perspective of the top flight, unless ‘they have something to hide’.

He was also critical of Mike Ashley for being ‘absolutely hypocritical’ in the statement, as he is asking for more transparency and as such for the case to be made public, but he is ‘never particularly positive or communicative with fans’.

The Verdict: Make case public

If both parties are equally as confident of getting a positive result from the arbitration hearing, then there should be no reason at all not to make the case public.

The Tyneside club have already claimed that they have ‘nothing to hide’ in their statement, and so the top flight should be following suit if that is true for them as well.

Nonetheless, whether the process remains confidential or is opened to the public, the results of the forthcoming proceedings will give a much better picture of the direction of where the takeover is heading, and if it goes in the favour of the Magpies, then the process could well be accelerated, much to the joy of the Toon Army.
