Journalist drops big Anderson claim for West Ham

Writing on Twitter, journalist Ekrem Konur has made a major six-word West Ham United claim involving winger Felipe Anderson.

The Lowdown: Anderson eyeing move away?

The Brazilian attacker has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium over these last few weeks.

Indeed, regional news sources such as La Lazio Siamo Noi claim that Anderson is personally very eager for a return to former club Lazio and pushing to get it through.

This is backed by reliable transfer source Fabrizio Romano, who says West Ham and the Serie A giants are currently in talks with personal terms already agreed.

The Latest: Konur drops major Anderson claim

Writing a six-word message on Twitter, reporter Konur has now shared his own update involving Anderson and his exit from West Ham this summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-3/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He explains that the winger has already left east London, stating: ‘Felipe Anderson is now Lazio’s footballer’.

Both clubs are yet to confirm or make an official announcement, but this is quite the claim to emerge as West Ham look to offload unwanted players and reduce the wage bill.

The Verdict: Good move by the Hammers?

Getting rid of Anderson’s £85,000-per-week salary is, of course, a real blessing amid the financial implications of the pandemic and the closure of stadiums over this past year.

Saving money wherever possible is imperative for the club as a whole and it is arguably time for the 28-year-old to part company.

Anderson started just one Liga NOS game over the entirety of his spell on loan at FC Porto last season (WhoScored), and given his alleged desire to return to Lazio, West Ham shouldn’t stand in his way.

Aston Villa can sign a Nakamba upgrade in Romeu

Aston Villa could sign a massive upgrade on Marvelous Nakamba in the form of Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Dean Smith’s side are keen on the Spaniard’s teammate at St Mary’s, James Ward-Prowse, but it appears Smith is also keen on signing Romeu too.

According to The Telegraph, Villa have identified the holding midfield position as something that needs reinforcing over the summer, with Romeu now featuring on the shortlist.

Upgrade on Nakamba

The 6 foot ace would represent a major upgrade on Nakamba in that anchorman role – in fact, as per Whoscored, the Saint’s man impressive average of 3.3 tackles per game in the Premier League last season ranked him joint-third in the entire division.

Romeu also averaged 1.4 interceptions per game, numbers which are far better than any of Smith’s current options at Villa Park – Nakamba being the closest Villa player to the Spaniard, managing just 1.7 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per match.

And, when asked about Romeu’s performance against West Brom in a 2-0 victory last season, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “When you see him as a professional, how he reacts when he is not first-choice, he’s one of the most professional guys I’ve ever seen.

“Sometimes he is under the radar because he makes the work nobody wants to do – closing the gaps, closing the space, winning duels, being everywhere and when he is in the moment when he can score, it is unbelievable for him.”

Given his ability to cover the ground and break up opposition attacks, and the fact that he’s Premier League proven, the £65k-a-week earning Romeu is someone who would be a massive improvement on Nakamba in the middle of the park.

Villa should push to complete a move for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Villa make their first approach for this Premier League star…

West Brom: Fans react to Jerry Yates update

West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates, as reported by The72.

Enjoying a fantastic 2020/21 season, the 24-year-old played a major role in the Seasiders’ successful Sky Bet League One promotion bid as he registered 32 goal contributions from 54 games in all competitions; 23 goals and nine assists [Transfermarkt].

Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest are all also said to be keen on the striker, who could be available for around £5million to potential suitors [The Sun].

Yates has averaged around 1.9 shots per every 90 minutes across the last year, demonstrating his willingness to regularly propel himself to the forefront of attacking play [WhoScored].

Still manager-less after the departure of Sam Allardyce from the Hawthorns last month and lacking direction as a club [BBC], there is little surprise loads of Baggies fans took to Twitter to share their concern at these latest developments.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Ezri Konsa post

A number of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to Ezri Konsa’s Sunday social media post about teammate Tyrone Mings.

Mings started for England in their European Championships opener against Croatia on the weekend, impressing in a 1-0 win at Wembley.

The 28-year-old, who missed just two games under Dean Smith last season, was England’s third-best performer behind Raheem Sterling and Kalvin Phillips, as per WhoScored, recording a match rating of 7.15/10.

He completed 56 passes, made four interceptions, three clearances and committed zero fouls, with Villa sharing the stats from Mings’ display on Twitter shortly after the full-time whistle in London.

Konsa, on £32,000-a-week in the Midlands, clearly liked what he saw from his club partner and replied to Villa’s official tweet on Mings, simply saying:

“My boy”

Villa fans react

This is what these Villa fans had to say in reply to Konsa’s post on Mings, with many believing he should be with the Three Lions squad alongside his Villa teammate for the current major tournament.

Bayern chasing Villa’s Sinisalo

A major update has emerged on Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, regarding interest from Bayern Munich and Celtic.

What’s the talk?

According to the Sunday People (20/6; page 56), Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Celtic are all interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo. The 19-year-old is heading into the final year of his contract and all three European giants are looking to potentially snap him up for a cut-price deal.

The report claims that Villa want to tie him down to an extended contract in an attempt to keep him at the club in the long term. Sinisalo’s intentions are not clear at this time and it remains to be seen if he wants to commit his future to Dean Smith’s side.

Back in Ocotber 2020, Ayr United boss Mark Kerr hailed the “athletic” shot-stopper for his ability to read the game and make important saves. He told Not The Old Firm:

“Viljami did well. I had contact with an agent who deals with goalkeepers down in England. He gave us a list of five. We thought Viljami looked athletic, he can get across the goal and he reads things.

“He made some great saves today, that’s what you need.”

Fans would be fuming

Villa fans would be fuming if the club allows Sinisalo to leave this summer to join Bayern, Celtic or Leipzig. Allowing a talented young player to depart on a cut-price deal, or free, because the club have failed to pin him down to a contract extension could be a bitter blow.

Losing a promising talent for any reason is frustrating, but to do so whilst potentially not even receiving a transfer blow would be even worse as Villa would not receive worthwhile compensation for their loss.

The teenager enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Ayr in Scotland. He kept nine clean sheets and conceded 39 goals in 29 appearances for the club, suggesting that he already has the quality to compete at that level despite only turning 19 last October.

Therefore, he could have the potential to be an important player for Villa in the future, which is why the club could be facing a disaster if they do not get him to commit himself to the club this summer as they could watch a prospect walk out of the door.

Emi Martinez turns 29 in September and the Argentine shot-stopper will be well into his 30’s by the time Sinisalo turns 24/25 and begins to prepare himself to be a long-term number one option at Premier League level.

This means that the Finnish goalkeeper could be the ideal successor to Martinez at Villa Park if he plays his cards right over the next few years. This is another reason why NSWE need to avoid making a mistake with Sinisalo in the coming months.

AND in other news, NSWE could strike gold with AVFC swoop for “amazing” £30m ace, Dean Smith needs him…

Saeed Anwar's omission clear case of double standards

Saeed Anwar, one of the best openers in present day cricket, slapped the face of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) when he declared himself fully fit for the coming Test series against New Zealand

Ali Kabir23-Apr-2002Saeed Anwar, one of the best openers in present day cricket, slapped the face of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) when he declared himself fully fit for the coming Test series against New Zealand. The opener was not considered by the PCB selection committee claiming that his fitness was in doubt. The PCB chief, time and again has been suggesting that players were the best judge of their fitness. He suggested the theory of rotation among a select band of players to save them from burn-out. Nobody can disagree with the PCB boss on his logic of burn-out. However, he has repeatedly said that the final selection of matches lie with the players themselves. But in the case of Saeed Anwar the same standard has not been applied. It only shows double standard of the PCB when Saeed Anwar was not consulted and someone or some people around the high ups decided themselves to rule out the classy opener. There were some whispers that he lacks match practice.Of course Saeed Anwar has not played competitive cricket for nearly six months. But he has to make a beginning if he is still good enough to be included in the team preparing for the World Cup next year. The functioning of the PCB is beyond imagination. Its working is as unpredictable as the team’s performance graph which is most unpredictable. There is jubilation on Pakistan’s thumping win over Sri Lanka in the final of the Sharjah Cup this week.It was nothing so surprising. The team’s performance is unpredictable and on a day when everything was in their favour and they were going great guns, the Sri Lanka team had the misfortune of losing their only match-winning bowler, Muttiah Muralitharan who had to leave the field with a dislocated shoulder before he could even spin a single delivery. This unforeseen incident electrified the morale of the Pakistan team and played a demoralising effect on the Islanders. The rest is history as Pakistan amassed 295, a match winning total. The PCB chief was so overjoyed that he announced a bonus of three lakh rupees to every member of the Pakistan contingent which included `extra baggage’ who was not a member of the team as well as the counselor specially flown in. It seems as if the PCB has turned into a charitable trust and the Pakistani cricketers are its only beneficiaries. What was so great about the Sharjah victory. It was the same Pakistan team which failed to score 19 runs in the last three overs against the same outfit. And if one goes with the entire achievement of the Pakistan team which has been boasting of world’s best talent for almost two decades, it has just one World Cup and one Asian Championship title to its credit.Sharjah and Sahara Cups have no credentials. They are just `Nataks’ of cricket staged by the international event managers to mint money from advertising and other hidden sources. If the overall performance at Sharjah is taken into consideration one would like to ask the manager and the coach what were they doing when Rashid Latif and Wasim Akram were struggling to score 19 runs from 18 balls and failed.Manager Yawar Saeed, after the match said that the players made a mistake as they did not ask for the change of the ball which they should have done.If the players in the heat of the situation failed to demand the change, the wiser men who were sitting outside should have sent in the message. One thinks that the team management was busy counting their gains. The PCB has an army of officers to run the show on fat salaries. If the team coach can be paid around Rs 2,40,000 for a month does he deserve a bonus too? Secondly one player who was not among the 15 was also paid the bonus of Rs 300,000. One has nothing against Faisal Iqbal he is a budding youngster. Now for no fault of his own this poor chap is being made target of criticism just because he is being pushed into the team when there is no place for him at the moment. One hopes Faisal does not meet the same fate which Shoaib Mohammad met as he was pushed into the Pakistan team rather prematurely by his supporters and when Shoaib really made a mark and deserved a place in the team he was ignored because of the prejudices and bias of the then cricket board and the selectors. If the PCB is really interested in grooming Faisal he should be kept in the cricket academy and given chance when there is an opportunity.Faisal has toured with the Pakistan team to Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, was a member of the team in the Asian Test Championship staged in Pakistan early this year, then was a member of the team in the off-shore Test series in Sharjah and again was a non playing member of the team in the just concluded Sharjah Cup.He has perhaps set a new Pakistan record of touring with the Pakistan team. One wonders will his career end as a tourist. His supporters should think over it and plan out his career. And lastly one would like the PCB to cut down it’s extravagant expenditure. The payment to the players, officials and non active members should correspond with the overall economic condition of the country. Cricketers are not rare commodities.Pakistan hockey team has won more laurels for the country but its players were never honored or given financial gains. Can one imagine that a win at Sharjah made everybody on the bandwagon richer by at least by Rs three lakh.Even a country like America, the world’s richest nation never showers it’s Olympic champions with such financial gains. How a poor country like ours can afford such a luxury is beyond imagination.President Pervez Musharraf who every time advocates for accountability should give a look at the PCB as the money being given to individuals is after all public money and instead of making individuals rich it should be spent on development of cricket in particular and sports in general. The autonomy given to the PCB is perhaps being misused and it should be stopped immediately.
