Spurs to return for Martinez

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham are to return for Belgium manager Roberto Martinez as their managerial search continues.

The Lowdown: Chaos reigns

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho as their boss two months ago, yet they are still without a permanent replacement.

It appeared Paulo Fonseca would be the man to take over after the breakdown with Antonio Conte, but Spurs broke off talks with him as well before moving on to Gennaro Gattuso (The Guardian).

After deciding not to move forward with the Italian next (via The Daily Mail), they are now back to the drawing board in what is fast becoming a quite remarkable saga.

The Latest: Back to Martinez

Spurs had been linked with a move for Martinez earlier in their search, but once the Euros started that speculation died down as he focuses on his task with Belgium.

Now, though, Daniel Levy is set to return for the former Everton manager as the chairman has had his palate tickled – a wonderful choice of words from the Italian outlet.

The Verdict: Solid record

At this point, Tottenham simply have to make a decision and fast – they can surely not afford to go too much longer without a boss at the helm as they prepare for the transfer window and new season, so it may become a case of taking the best they can get.

However, as last resorts go, Martinez would not be a bad one.

With Belgium, he has reached a World Cup semi-final and has averaged a huge 2.48 points per game (Transfermarkt). To put that into perspective, Mourinho managed 1.77 with Spurs.

At Everton, he led the Toffees to a fifth place finish in the Premier League, although there were questions raised in regards to his defensive set-up (via The Daily Post), and of course his crowning achievement was leading Wigan to FA Cup success over Manchester City.

Now, with more top-tier experience under his belt and an enhanced reputation having managed truly elite talent with Belgium, he could be a good appointment if he were to arrive in north London.

In other news, Tottenham are interested in this up-and-coming striker.

Wolves transfer update on Moutinho

Many Wolves fans have been left to flock to a big transfer update on Joao Moutinho.

As per Grada 3, Jorge Mendes has offered Valencia the opportunity to sign the central midfield player on a free transfer in the summer window.

Moutinho did not exactly have his best season, scoring just one goal and supplying one assist in 36 matches in total across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Some Midlands club supporters grew more frustrated with some of his displays towards the end of the 2020/21 term, most notably against Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

However, the Molineux outfit should at least be trying to get some form of a transfer fee for who is still a decorated player currently with the Portugal national team in Euro 2020 and looking to make an impact on the tournament.

Leeds United: Ezgjan Alioski officially a free agent

Leeds United are set to officially part company with Ezgjan Alioski following his contract expiration [Leeds Live].

The Lowdown: Leeds United face changes moving into 2021/22

Moving into 2021/22, some changes will engulf an Elland Road side who achieved an impressive ninth placed finish last term.

Raphinha has been linked with a move to UEFA Champions League qualifiers Liverpool, whilst Kalvin Phillips has courted the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, while those are just rumours, one man who is definitely be departing Yorkshire this summer is 29-year-old North Macedonia international Alioski.

The Latest: Alioski confirmed to be leaving Elland Road after four years

As stated, the left-back is now officially set to leave Leeds United this summer, with neither club nor player able to agree an extension on his deal [Leeds Live].

Somewhat of a cult hero at the club thanks to his feisty reputation, he played a major role in Marcelo Bielsa’s EFL Championship winning side of 2019/20 [BBC].

Speculation will follow regarding his next move, with Galatasaray said to be closely monitoring his situation [Tribal Football].

The Verdict: Right time for club and player to part ways

All things considered, now is probably the correct time for Alioski and Leeds to part ways in an amicable fashion.

In 2020/21, the Prilep-born full back enjoyed a solid season within the Whites rear-guard, chipping in with six goal contributions in 38 fixtures; three goals and three assists [Transfermarkt], but he was suspect defensively at times.

All in, he registered 41 goal contributions in 171 fixtures during his time in Leeds, 22 goals and 19 assists [Transfermarkt].

Once described as ‘brilliant’ by ex-Sunderland forward Kevin Phillips, his efforts in a Leeds United jersey won’t be forgotten about any time soon [Football Insider].

Fabuloso cutuca Guerrero e Eurico provoca: 'Ele será carrasco do Fla'

Ponto. Querer comparar Guerrero com Luis Fabiano? Vocês estão de sacanagem. Ele está a anos-luz do Guerrero – afirmou Eurico Miranda.

Foster dismayed by BCCSL treatment

Sri Lanka’s bowling coach Darryl Foster said he was left feeling dismayedand disappointed after his treatment by the Board of Control for Cricket inSri Lanka (BCCSL) on Monday.Foster, a biomechanical expert from the University of Western Australia, resigned on Saturday after the BCCSL refused a request to help offsetemergency travel costs.Foster also voiced his disappointment that the news of his resignation wasleaked to the media during the course of a crucial Test match, distractingthe attention of the players.Foster had to return to Australia just before the Lord’s Test following alife threatening illness to his grandson. The serious nature of the illnessforced Foster to buy an extra airline ticket, circumventing a time consumingstopover in Colombo.Contrary to a BCCSL media release, which states that Foster "requested theBCCSL to meet the cost of upgrading him to Business Class," Foster claimsthat: "I was not expecting them to pay for the upgrade. I asked them tooffset the cost of my upgrade against my unused business class, or consideroffsetting it against any future coaching trips to Sri Lanka."Their decision not to assist him – despite a history of honourary assistanceto the BCCSL, including two biomechanical analyses of Muttiah Muralitharan’saction in 1995 and 1999 that helped save the off-spinners career – forcedhim to resign: "They said no, so I could only believe that I was not goingto be required for any further bowling work. Therefore I didn’t believe thatI had any other alternative than to sever my links with the board andresign.""I was profoundly disappointed. To have it announced in Colombo during thecourse of a Test match was distracting – the players and management teamhave more important things to worry about than leaks from the board inColombo. And making it look that I was resigning because of a financialdisagreement was misleading."Foster first starting working for the BCCSL in 1995 when he helped clearMuralitharan’s action with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Sincethen he has been involved in the BCCSL’s Fast Bowling Unit. Most recently,he helped Dilhara Fernando remodel his action after sustaining a stressfracture in his back. During this tour he had to take unpaid holiday leaveto heed the BCCSL’s request for assistance.Although currently upset, as are members of the team, he stopped short ofruling out any further association with Sri Lankan cricket: "I would hopethere could some rapprochement with the board. If I have got the wrongmessage from the board, then I will certainly talk to them about futurecoaching assistance.".

Rangers tipped to axe George Edmundson

Rangers have been tipped to sell George Edmundson this summer by Frank McAvennie after the club reportedly received a number of bids for the young centre-back, and Steven Gerrard should heed his words and axe the former Oldham Athletic man from his squad at Ibrox this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said:

“Gerrard will already have made his mind up about him leaving. Rangers will go about their business quietly, as they tend to do. I have no problem with that.

“Edmundson wasn’t getting game time at Rangers so it’s better for him to get going and try to restart his career. There’s nothing worse than training all week and not getting a game, it’s a horrible feeling.

“He might go away and want to prove people wrong but he has to know he messed up. He’s still young though, he could become a better player but his Rangers days are over if you ask me.

“I can see him leaving soon with minimal fuss now.”

The 23-year-old has made just 17 appearances for Rangers since joining from Oldham in the summer of 2019, in which he has contributed two goals and one assist.

However, he found himself behind Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun in the pecking order this season and after breaking some of the Covid restrictions in November, it was no surprise to see him sent out on loan in the winter transfer window, as he joined Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Rangers transfer rumours and news!”]

There, he would make 10 appearances in the Championship, averaging a less than impressive 6.62 rating from WhoScored for his performances, which arguably does not bode well for his future at Ibrox.

Football Insider also reported earlier this month that the defender, who was dubbed “easily expendable” by Steven Naismith last year, was attracting interest from a number of sides but their bids have so far been rejected by Rangers.

It seems unlikely that he will be able to win back Gerrard’s trust next season, especially with the addition of Jack Simpson which could see him slip further down the pecking order at Ibrox.

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776″]

His performances thus far have done little to suggest that he would be good enough for a side who want to challenge in the Champions League next season, so Gerrard should arguably cash in on him this summer.

مولر بعد تتويج بايرن ميونخ بالدوري الألماني: من الصعب الرحيل

Liverpool’s Marko Grujic set to leave

Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic is seemingly nearing the exit door after being told that he is free to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side for good this summer during talks last weekend.

What’s the story?

The 25-year-old has spent the last three campaigns away from Anfield on season-long loans and is now close to joining Porto after impressing at the Portuguese giants’ last term.

This is all according to a report from Football Insider, who claim that the Reds are holding out for a £15 million fee for Grujic following negotiations with the Dragons.

Klopp will be buzzing

News that the Liverpool hierarchy are close to securing a sale will surely have Klopp buzzing as he aims to strengthen his first-team squad.

The German manager should be in the market for more players over the coming months, with the addition of a new central midfielder likely taking priority, given the exit of Gini Wijnaldum.

France Under-21 international defender Ibrahima Konate has already arrived on Merseyside, but they are likely to need further reinforcements to regain their Premier League crown.

However, with the ongoing impact of the pandemic severely hampering Liverpool’s financial might in the transfer market, selling several fringe players may be the best way to raise the required funds needed to make these additions.

Star names such as Saul Niguez, Patson Daka and Raphinha have been linked with big-money moves in recent weeks, yet any significant potential arrivals are likely to hinge on Director of Football Michael Edwards shifting the deadwood first, with The Athletic’s James Pearce posting on Twitter that ‘further new arrivals after the signing of Konate will be influenced by how much is generated from player sales.’

Grujic joined the 19-time English champions back in 2016 from boyhood club Red Star Belgrade, though he struggled to ever establish himself in the first-team squad.

After making just 16 appearances for Liverpool throughout his five-year stay, it seems as though his time in English football is drawing to a close.

Following promising loan spells at Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin, the Serbian found his feet at Porto in 2020/21, scoring twice in 39 appearances for Sergio Conceicao’s men.

A return to the Estadio do Dragao appears to be the best solution for all relevant parties, and Klopp may now be able to press on with his own transfer plans as he plots his way back to the summit of English football, with some extra funds at his disposal.

With potentially an extra £15m in the bank with a space now freed up in his squad and with some more money off the wage bill, Klopp should be happy that the sale of Grujic looks to be completed.

West Ham join race for Barak

According to a report by Corriere di Verona, via Sport Witness, West Ham United are now among the clubs interested in signing Hellas Verona and Czech Republic midfielder Antonin Barak.

The Lowdown: Czech raid…

West Ham’s interest in Czech internationals has been well documented over the last year, coming after they completed the brilliant double signing of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague.

Indeed, the duo have impressed during their time in east London, with many more names from their nation duly linked with following suit.

Ondrej Kolar, Adam Hlozek, Alex Kral and David Zima have all been touted with possible moves to the Irons, and another name from that neck of the woods has now entered the fray.

The Latest: West Ham join race to Barak…

As per Corriere di Verona, via Sport Witness, West Ham now want Barak, who was a mainstay for the Czech Republic over their Euro 2020 campaign. They aren’t the only interested party, though, with Inter Milan, Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt also eyeing a move.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-2/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It is explained that his club are not keen on the idea of selling him this summer but could very well allow him to leave for the right price. Interest has apparently flourished around Barak in recent months and an auction could soon open for his services.

The Verdict: Lingard alternative?

West Ham reportedly want a permanent deal for Jesse Lingard, a new striker and fresh centre-back option first and foremost this summer window (Claret & Hugh).

It is unclear what the future holds for Lingard, though, and Barak could come as an alternative if the Irons cannot bring the Englishman back to east London.

Quite the physical presence at 1.9m (6 foot 2), he racked up seven goals and three assists in 32 Serie A starts over 2020/21 (WhoScored). He is also valued at a meagre £12.6m by Transfermarkt, pointing to a potentially cut-price option.

Hellas Verona originally believed that his value could sky rocket close to €20m (£17.1m) if the Czech Republic got past Denmark in their Euro 2020 quarter-final on Saturday, but their exit means that this isn’t possible.

That could be a boost for GSB and the Hammers if they wish to add the 26-year-old to their growing Czech contingent at the London Stadium.
