West Ham: Fans react to Romano update about Kurt Zouma

West Ham United are said to be close to signing Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, with personal terms believed to be the ‘final details’ of the deal according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Enjoying a solid 2020/21 campaign, the 26-year-old registered five goals in 36 fixtures as he helped the Blues win the UEFA Champions League [Transfermarkt].

Now, he looks set to be on his way to East London following recent reports from Romano.

Speaking to his large Twitter audience, the Italian transfer guru reported that West Ham only have to agree the small details on personal terms with the Frenchman before a deal can be completed for Zouma to join the Hammers.

It has been suggested by Romano that a deal could even be completed on Wednesday, via Twitch.

In light of this news, no wonder loads of West Ham diehards took to Twitter to express their opinions on latest developments.

Palace join Newcastle in Will Hughes race

An update has emerged on reported Newcastle transfer target Will Hughes regarding Crystal Palace’s interest in his signature.

What’s the talk?

According to Football.London, the Eagles have joined the race to land the 26-year-old from Watford this summer.

The report claims that Aston Villa and Newcastle are also interested in the former Derby County player, who has one year left to run on his current contract.

Bye-bye Hayden

Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden has been linked with an exit from St James’ Park and his future could dictate any potential move for Hughes. Southampton are reportedly keen on the former Arsenal man and his sale could allow the Magpies to bring the Watford ace to Tyneside.

Hayden had an indistinct 2020/21 campaign as he managed a WhoScored rating of 6.67 in 24 Premier League appearances. This suggests that Steve Bruce’s side would not be greatly damaged by letting him go as he was not able to consistently provide impressive performances in the top flight.

Therefore, it could be time to wave bye-bye to Hayden and say hello to Hughes, as it could improve Bruce’s starting XI. The Watford midfielder enjoyed a superb season in the Championship for the Hornets as he averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.19 when starting in central midfield to help them secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Former Watford central defender Adrian Mariappa once showered the midfielder with praise as he said of his one-time team-mate: “He’s an outstanding player. To see the quality he’s got, he has so much flair and a terrific player.”

This suggests that Hughes could come in and have a better chance of being able to catch the eye in midfield for Newcastle than Hayden, which is why the Magpies must act now to land him. He could be an upgrade on what they currently have in midfield and it would allow them to cash in on the Saints target, which could then raise funds for other signings or potentially pay for Hughes.

However, the Tynesiders must move swiftly if they are to sign the £26k-per-week gem because of this latest update. Palace are now on his trail and Aston Villa are also said to be keen, which means that Newcastle run the risk of losing out to their rivals in the race for his signature if they remain indecisive.

Histórico do ano

Spurs linked with Aouar

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar recently and the Frenchman could be a superb addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ahead of next season.

What’s the word?

According to French news outlet Le10 Sport, Spurs have joined their North London rivals Arsenal in the race for the Lyon star this summer.

The report claims that whilst Lyon are keen to keep him at the club, they have been hugely impacted by the issues with the TV deals in Ligue 1 that have left the majority of French clubs under financial strain, which means that they could be willing to let him go for less than the £45m they demanded of Arsenal last summer.

Would he be a good signing?

Aouar has been a regular at Lyon in the past four seasons, making 170 appearances for the French giants, in which he has contributed an impressive 32 goals and 31 assists from midfield.

Last season saw the 23-year-old contribute seven goals and three assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Gones, averaging a solid 6.83 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Whilst that would rank him above the majority of Spurs’ midfield options from last season, Spurs should perhaps be wary of the fact that Tanguy Ndombele, who was also signed from Lyon, has thus far failed to reach the level he was consistently showing in Ligue 1, despite some improved performances last campaign after a nightmare first season at the club.

However, Aouar is clearly a player who is held in high regard across Europe, with legendary Barcelona star Lionel Messi naming him as one of 15 young players to watch, whilst also singing his praises in 2020, saying:

“He is always calm with the ball at his feet with an excellent technical quality.”

Therefore, if he is able to adapt to the Premier League then he could prove to be a superb addition to Espirito Santo’s side this summer, so sporting director Fabio Paratici should definitely be looking to bring him in.

Celtic: Fans react to Ryan Christie update

Sampdoria are considering a move for Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie, according to Scott Burns of The Daily Record, and a number of Hoops supporters have been reacting to the news on social media.

The 26-year-old is actually free to talk to clubs outside of Scotland ahead of a pre-contract agreement, as his Parkhead deal expires in January.

Celtic are aware of the latest interest from the Serie A club and are waiting to see if they will make a concrete bid ahead of a possible immediate summer deal. French duo Monaco and Nice, along with Premier League side Burnley, have also been linked with a move, with Christie unlikely to extend his Celtic Park contract.

He featured in 45 minutes of Celtic’s 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic on Saturday, buthe may not add to his 142 competitive appearances for the Hoops.

Rangers: Second bid for Kai Kennedy rejected

Rangers have rejected a second bid from West Ham United for Ibrox youngster Kai Kennedy, according to a recent report from Football Insider.

The lowdown: West Ham targeting move for Rangers forward

Kennedy has been a transfer target for West Ham for some time now, and has previously spoken out on the Hammers’ interest in signing him, but wouldn’t be torn on making a decision on his future.

“It is extremely flattering that West Ham have made an offer for me and it would be a great opportunity to be able to work with a top manager such as David Moyes, but I am a Rangers player until I am told otherwise.”

West Ham submitted their first offer for the forward on Monday 18th July, but it was swiftly rejected by the Gers, who are eager to keep hold of the 19-year-old. He spent last year’s campaign on loan with both Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers.

The latest: Second bid rejected

West Ham evidently aren’t giving up in their pursuit of the Rangers youngster, with Football Insider’s Ibrox source now reporting that the Scottish side have rejected their second offer for Kennedy’s services.

Kennedy is contracted with the Gers until the summer of 2023, and it remains to be seen as to whether West Ham will make a third offer for his services anytime soon.

But Steven Gerrard has moved him into their first-team plans now, with Kennedy previously training with the club’s ‘B’ team.

The verdict: A nervy few weeks ahead for the Gers

They’re clearly keen to keep hold of Kennedy for the foreseeable future, especially if they’ve recalled him to first-team training ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Kennedy scored one goal and was on hand to provide four assists in 19 appearances for Raith Rovers in his loan spell away from Ibrox last season, and it appears as though some of his strong performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

The diminutive winger still has two years remaining on his contract with Gerrard’s side, and it’ll be interesting to see whether he’s got serious role to play for the club’s first-team this season.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see West Ham come back with another offer for him though judging by their quick move to make a second bid, so the Gers may now face a real battle to stand firm.

Wolves consider move for James Tarkowski

Wolves may be restricted to what they can spend in the ongoing transfer window but that hasn’t deterred new manager Bruno Lage from getting active.

They’ve already submitted a bid for Brazilian wonderkid Kaio Jorge but they’re now chasing someone a little more known to an English audience.

What’s the word?

One area Wolves are looking to strengthen this summer is defensively. They will need to improve on their left-back options with Marcal and Jonny out injured but centre-back is also an issue for Lage to fix.

With that in mind, the Old Gold are targeting a move for James Tarkowski.

That’s according to The Telegraph who suggest that Wolves have joined a queue alongside West Ham to sign the defender.

Burnley could entertain offers over the next few months with Tarkowski entering the final year of his contract at Turf Moor.

The Clarets rejected a bid of £30m from the Hammers 12 months ago but he will almost definitely be cheaper on this occasion.

Fixing a big problem

With finances running rather dry at Molineux, this signing would be absolutely ideal for Lage and Wolves.

Not only would they be landing a proven Premier League player at cut-price, but they’d be acquiring someone who would be an instant upgrade on their current options.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-alena-dike-neves-barisic” title=”Real the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

The Old Gold endured a wretched campaign from a defensive point of view last term, shipping 52 goals in the league. That was one fewer than relegated Fulham and six more than Brighton who finished in 16th.

Their clean sheet record was also incredibly poor. During a period from October to January, Nuno Santo watched his side concede goals at will, maintaining a shutout in just two matches during a 14-game run.

Thus, Tarkowski’s arrival at the heart of the defence would be vital. The £22.5m-rated colossus has been described as “exceptional” by his peers and it’s easy to see why.

The 28-year-old, who is now in the prime of his career, is a giant when it comes to aerial battles.

During 2020/21, the centre-back won 4.6 aerial duels per game. For context, that usurps every player in the Wolves squad by quite some distance.

Willy Boly was their best player in that department last term, prevailing in 2.7 aerial situations per match.

Tarkowski is also a prolific tackler of the ball, registering 1.8 successful challenges per outing during the course of last season. That number tops every centre-half at Wolves, suggesting he would be an immediate improvement.

On top of that, he applies more successful pressures on the ball (41.3%) than Boly, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss who are all south of 35%.

The Burnley star has often fallen short of earning more England caps but his inclusion in a plethora of Three Lions camps dictates he is on the periphery of a bigger move. Wolves must make sure it’s them who are claiming his services.

Aston Villa can sign a Nakamba upgrade in Romeu

Aston Villa could sign a massive upgrade on Marvelous Nakamba in the form of Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Dean Smith’s side are keen on the Spaniard’s teammate at St Mary’s, James Ward-Prowse, but it appears Smith is also keen on signing Romeu too.

According to The Telegraph, Villa have identified the holding midfield position as something that needs reinforcing over the summer, with Romeu now featuring on the shortlist.

Upgrade on Nakamba

The 6 foot ace would represent a major upgrade on Nakamba in that anchorman role – in fact, as per Whoscored, the Saint’s man impressive average of 3.3 tackles per game in the Premier League last season ranked him joint-third in the entire division.

Romeu also averaged 1.4 interceptions per game, numbers which are far better than any of Smith’s current options at Villa Park – Nakamba being the closest Villa player to the Spaniard, managing just 1.7 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per match.

And, when asked about Romeu’s performance against West Brom in a 2-0 victory last season, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “When you see him as a professional, how he reacts when he is not first-choice, he’s one of the most professional guys I’ve ever seen.

“Sometimes he is under the radar because he makes the work nobody wants to do – closing the gaps, closing the space, winning duels, being everywhere and when he is in the moment when he can score, it is unbelievable for him.”

Given his ability to cover the ground and break up opposition attacks, and the fact that he’s Premier League proven, the £65k-a-week earning Romeu is someone who would be a massive improvement on Nakamba in the middle of the park.

Villa should push to complete a move for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Villa make their first approach for this Premier League star…
