Celtic missing out on Croatian wonderkid Luka Ivanusec could be a blessing in disguise

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Dinamo Zagreb have pipped Celtic to the signing of creative midfielder Luka Ivanusec, per The Scottish Sun, but it could work out in their favour.

What’s the story?

Lokomotiv Zagreb wonderkid Ivanusec opted to remain in the city rather than make the switch to Neil Lennon’s men or Olympiakos, per the report.

It’s thought that the Celts were prepared to pay a total of £4.75m for the 20-year-old in instalments, but Dinamo’s willingness to pay a full £2.75m fee upfront swung proceedings in favour of the Croatian champions.

A Celtic fan has claimed Celtic won’t just join the EPL in the near future but they’ll make the Top 4 as well! Watch the controversial video below…

The youngster impressed in the Croatian top-flight last season for Lokomotiv, setting up five goals and scoring six in his 34 appearances. He has started this season in even more scintillating fashion, scoring once and assisting two more in what could be his final three appearances for the club.

The attacking midfielder would’ve joined the likes of Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Mikey Johnston at Parkhead in vying for a starting role under Lennon.

A blow or a blessing?

The news comes in what has been a bad week for the club. Fan unrest is at its highest point in a long time thanks to the defeat to Cluj and the inefficient transfer window thus far. It may not have been the most pivotal transfer of the window, but fighting off Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos for an exciting 20 year-old might’ve helped ease some fans’ worries.

Watch Celtic Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It also shows where the club are in the European football pecking order. It wasn’t that long ago that Celtic were signing one of Dinamo Zagreb’s better players in Jozo Simunovic, so to be losing out to them now is perhaps a sign that without Champions League football the Bhoys’ appeal is greatly reduced.

While it’s not certain how interested Lennon was in the player, it’s not a great reflection on the club, who could do with a few statement signings to silence to their doubters.

However, the failed pursuit could turn out to be a blessing, and is of particular benefit to someone like Ntcham.

Signing another creative midfielder would’ve stymied his time on the park after a poor season last term, ruining absolutely any chance he has of getting back to his previous form.

The Frenchman has also been linked with a move away from the club, and one could deduce that he is more likely to stay in Glasgow after missing out on Ivanusec, and a player who has proven he can perform for the club before is surely a safer bet than a 20 year-old unknown quantity.

So, while it’s frustrating to see the club lose out on another ‘target’, it shouldn’t add to the doom and gloom at Parkhead, and could in fact be a blessing in disguise if it means Ntcham stays and puts in some of the displays we saw from him in the 2017/18 campaign.

Wolves fans discuss potential Europa League opponents ahead of Torino return leg

[ad_pod ]

Wolves are merely one game away from making history and qualifying for the Europa League group stage for the first time ever.

They even have one foot in the next round already after they downed Torino 3-2 in Italy last week meaning they need to get a result that is at worst a 1-0 defeat to progress.

The west Midlands club fate isn’t determined yet, although one fan account on Twitter has speculated Wolves could be in pot three of the draw when it takes place.

That means there will be two groups of clubs coming out before they do and in theory, they should be of higher quality as it is decided on coefficient rating – usually, the sum of all points won in the previous five years.

Find out which Premier League stadium has been ranked the worst in the video below…

This means Wolves could face any one of these clubs – Sevilla, Porto, Roma, Basel, Sporting Lisbon, Wolfsburg and Lazio, which has left many fans at Molineux debating where they would like a trip to.

Two of the aforementioned clubs pop up considerably more than the others.

The first being La Liga side Sevilla, who have won the competition a record five times, including three straight from 2014 to 2016 under current Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

They are also seventh in the coefficient rankings above PSG and even Liverpool, making them, technically, the strongest side in the competition.

Porto is the other club, as many Wolves supporters seem to fancy a mini-break to Portugal at some stage this season. They are two-time winners of both the Europa League as well as the Champions League.

Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, and Diogo Jota have all played for the Primeira Liga side in the past, whilst Nuno Santo was among their playing ranks and has even managed them.

Leeds United fans more likely to perform Kiko Casilla u-turn after latest update

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Victor Orta confirmed at a fans’ event, via Leeds Live, in Australia that Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla looks set to remain at Elland Road this season, and it could be another step towards some Whites fans performing a u-turn on the 32-year-old.

What’s the word, then?

When the Spaniard joined from Real Madrid in January, it would have been a natural reaction to expect him to be a strong and reliable presence between the sticks.

However, it didn’t quite work out like that with one of his worst moments coming in the second leg of the play-off semi-final defeat against Derby County, when a mix-up up at the back with Liam Cooper gifted the Rams a goal and a route back into the tie.

Many Leeds supporters on Twitter destroyed the 6 ft 3 man for his performance in that game, and others were delighted when he was linked with what would have been early exit this summer.

However, Orta confirmed on Wednesday that he is set to stay: “I can say Kiko Casilla prefers to stay in Leeds United than the first division in Spain. And, again, for me, I feel really proud.”

Another step in the right direction

Casilla committing his future to the Championship club is certainly a good sign that the stopper is ready to make amends for any mistakes last season.

The former Real man has already apologised to supporters before the pre-season friendly against York City, and now his latest decision should be another step towards getting some of the Elland Road faithful back on his side.

A fully confident Casilla could easily make a huge difference for Leeds in their promotion push next season, and if he can eradicate the errors from his game then the experience and quality that earned him a move to the Bernabeu in the first place should shine through.

Goretzka and Mendy reply to Sane’s funny Instagram video

[ad_pod ]

The season is pretty much wrapped up for Leroy Sane, both at club and international level.

His Manchester City campaign was a major success – winning the treble and defending the Premier League title in the process. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his international adventures since Germany crashed out of the Nations League after a bad group stage performance.

Nonetheless, the Citizens’ starlet is very much enjoying his holiday and his latest

/By3A3vqjjhb/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram post attracted a lot of eyes and prompted many laughs from his teammates and rivals alike.

This hilarious video was noticed by Benjamin Mendy, his City teammate, who found it extremely funny and replied with a series of emojis to support it.

Leon Goretzka just replied with “Mia san Mia”, which is Bayern Munich’s club motto, and this post got the most attention of all the replies because of the transfer saga involving the German club and City’s winger.

The duo were not the only ones posting, however, and many other players eventually found their way onto Sane’s Instagram, either bantering the lad or just laughing at the video.

Georginio Wijnaldum loves Xherdan Shaqiri’s post on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

He may not have enjoyed consistent first-team starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side in his first season at Anfield, but Xherdan Shaqiri will surely feel justified in making his move to Liverpool.

The Switzerland international left relegated Stoke to join the Reds in a £13.5m move last summer, and finished his debut campaign on Merseyside by lifting the Champions League trophy.

Following his country’s Nations League disappointment, Shaqiri can finally jet out on his end of season break and took to

/BynaSRMiar4/” data-lasso->Instagram to thank his fans for their support.

Liverpool teammate Georginio Wijnaldum responded to the post with a short and sweet message, including a trophy emoji to mark the Reds’ triumphant campaign in Europe.

In 30 games across all competitions for Klopp’s side, Shaqiri registered six goals and five assists with two of those set-ups coming in the Reds’ Champions League journey.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane understandably making their places in the first-team their own, Shaqiri was predominantly forced to make his impact off the bench or as an unconventional central midfielder.

But having had a full season to get used to his teammates and his manager, the Swiss star could really showcase his true potential next season when Liverpool will no doubt look to dethrone Manchester City as champions of England.

He’s going: Leeds fans pessimistic after Phil Hay’s Bielsa update

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are feeling pessimistic despite a positive update from Phil Hay about the future of Marcelo Bielsa.

The Yorkshire Evening Post writer tweeted that there had been more talks between the club and the manager on Monday, and he claimed that he is now expected to stay at Elland Road.

Certain fans didn’t take too kindly to this update with some questioning the reliability of the YEP writer due to his previous incorrect predictions about the Whites.

Others were worried about the future of the club even if the Argentine stayed. Their concerns were primarily around the signings the club would make this summer as they believe that Andrea Radrizzani would be reluctant to get his chequebook out.

It remains to be seen whether or not the journalist is accurate with his report that Bielsa is set to stay at the club next season, but some fans certainly believe that Hay’s words should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Here’s what United supporters have been saying on Twitter…

Celtic fans react to Tom Rogic exit rumours

[ad_pod ]

Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter following a report by the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday that suggested that midfielder Tom Rogic is a target for English Premier League clubs Leicester City and Southampton, with a subsequent story in The Daily Record suggesting he has a £15m price tag on his head.

The 26-year-old attack-minded player has enjoyed another impressive season for the Scottish Premiership champions, scoring eight goals and providing a further nine assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Those stats have come despite the fact the Australia international missed a large chunk of the campaign with a knee injury, returning shortly before Brendan Rodgers left for the Foxes.

Now it appears he wants to be reunited with him at the King Power Stadium, with the Sydney Morning Herald indicating he could fetch up to $37 Australian dollars (£20m).

However, The Daily Record places his valuation at £5m less than that amount.

Celtic supporters have been quick to have their say on the exit rumour ahead of the Old Firm derby against Rangers this weekend, and while one “selling Rogic for £15m is a disaster of an idea”, another said “keeping him at Celtic should be a top priority for Lawwell”.
