Barcelona: Fans discuss Marcelo Gallardo

Some Barcelona fans are keen for their beloved club to make a managerial change.Â

Barca have endured a far from impressive start to their domestic campaign this time out, losing the same amount of games as they did in La Liga all season, already and we are only in November (via BBC Sport).

The Catalans can be extremely thankful that both Real and Atletico Madrid have also been poor so far, meaning they currently lead the way in the Spanish top-flight, ahead of Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos on goal difference alone.

Indeed, as a result, it is understood, according to reports from Argentine outlet TNT Sport via AS, that the Catalan titans could be lining up a move for current River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo – a manager seemingly respected by club talisman Lionel Messi given that he voted for him as the best coach in the world recently.

Here’s how some Barca fans reacted to that news on Twitter..

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer savages forwards for being "non-existent"

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to MUTV (as quoted by The Daily Mirror), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has slammed his forwards for being “non-existent” in the clash against Partizan Belgrade.

What did he say?

The Red Devils laboured to a 1-0 win over the Serbian side in the Europa League on Thursday night, with an Anthony Martial penalty in the first-half the only goal of the game.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Speaking after the match, Solskjaer criticised his forward line for failing to press from the front, and issued a damning verdict on just how bad it was.

He said: “Second half I thought we dug in really well in the box, defended really well in the box. They played well in the second half and made us defend too deep.

“I’m not happy with the defending at the front. I think that’s been one of our strengths this season but I thought that was non-existent in the second half. That needs sorting out because we don’t want to be a team who is just defending in the box.”

Worrying sign

It was supposedly one of the key elements of Solskjaer’s game-plan, the desire to press the ball and play on the front foot. But the Red Devils have not appeared to incorporate that style of play this season. Starting from their first Premier League game of the season against Chelsea, United have looked to sit back and counter teams on the break.

It is an approach that has worked well against the bigger sides this campaign, picking up notable results against the Blues, Leicester, Arsenal and Liverpool. However, against teams that are far less interested in dominating the ball, Solskjaer’s side have struggled immensely, falling to shock defeats to the likes of Crystal Palace and Newcastle.

If United are keen on remedying that, then they must show greater desire and emphasis on looking to defend aggressively from the front.

Leeds have a serious problem if Marcelo Bielsa fails to change his methods

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Do you know the saying about ‘those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it’?

Well when you look it up next time, there’s a good chance that you’ll see a picture of Marcelo Bielsa staring back at you.

You’d think that games like the one at home to Wigan Athletic last season, when a team that was fighting relegation and reduced to ten men only to come and win it would have been enough to prove to him that there are no easy games in this division.

However, it looks as if Biela’s stubbornness and refusal to change his style of play have ended up costing him again.

Regardless of whether or not they feel that the red card in the first half was fair or not, if Leeds are a team that have serious aspirations of getting promoted, perhaps it’s time for Bielsa to start taking this league a little more seriously.

If he and Leeds find themselves in a situation where they cannot beat a team that were near the bottom of the table, who haven’t won a game since the middle of August and who lost their boss two days before the game, regardless of the ‘new manager bounce’, then you have to question just how seriously the Argentinian is taking this division.

Compare Leeds’ performance on the weekend to how Fulham played them a couple of months ago.

Scott Parker and his team saw there was a weak team to be exploited and tore them apart on the night, with 935 successful passes and 84% possession.

He has spoken before about how he likes to carry a thin squad, well this game clearly tells you that when you start a player who is predominantly a full-back at centre-back that you can’t just rely on your attacking ability to get you out of a jam.

This is why you need to have strength in depth, something else he should have learned last year during their injury crisis. Alas, he failed to learn from that this summer as they only brought in six players on loan while losing 31 either on a temporary or permanent basis.

There is still a lot of the season left to play, and whilst they are only two points off the top of the table right now, it will remain to be seen whether or not they have the capacity, both on the pitch and in the dugout, to stay near the top as the season progresses.

Something has to give, and it might just be Bielsa’s methods.

Nottingham Forest’s Rafa Mir hints at injury in latest Instagram post

Several fans were confused by this post, and they took to the comments section to ask about this injury.

Others asked reputable journalists on Twitter if he was injured.

Unfortunately for the City Ground faithful, this post indicates that Mir won’t be fit for this weekend’s clash with table-topping Swansea City.

This leaves the Reds with a serious lack of depth up top, as Lewis Grabban is now the only fit first-team striker available for Sabri Lamouchi’s side.

West Ham fans fume over Arthur Masuaku red card

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United had Arthur Masuaku sent off in Monday night’s goalless draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The left-back picked up his first booking in the 23rd minute before collecting his second in the 67th minute for a late challenge on Ahmed Elmohamady.

It was a late tackle from the defender but the contact was minimal at best.

And it would be fair to say that the West Ham fans were absolutely furious with Mike Dean’s decision to send Masuaku from the field.

A fiesty contest also saw Villa teammates Anwar El Ghazi and Tyrone Mings go head-to-head in the latter stages of the first half.

Meanwhile, West Ham captain Mark Noble was perhaps a touch fortunate not to pick up a second yellow card for what could have been easily interpreted as a dive before the break.

Eddie Hearn discusses promoting a fight between Michael Owen and Alan Shearer

[ad_pod ]Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee.Ah, boxing. The art of two athletes punching each other into oblivion. Loved by millions, watched by more. A simple but noble profession – hosted in front of thousands, or outside the local kebab shop on a Friday night between two bruisers fuelled by one shandy too many.Football isn’t too dissimilar in its simplicity. Two teams of 11 face each other for 90 minutes and try to put a padded sack of air between some posts more times than the other.Watch Newcastle United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

So, why are we telling you this?

Well, it all comes down to the hurtful words of a single man, Mr. Michael Owen, and his adversary, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.

For those who do not know why this pair of mischief makers hit the headlines recently, it’s fairly simple: Shearer wasn’t too pleased with the things being said about his darling Magpies in Owen’s new biography ‘Reboot,’ and aired his thoughts about the ever-so charismatic (not) striker on social media. No one likes a keyboard warrior, Alan.

Naturally, this little exchange opened up an opportunity and being the innately violent creatures we are, that could only be one thing: a good old fashioned fisticuff, white-collar boxing style.

Imagine that. Shearer windmilling his god-like palm fast enough to split the atom straight into the chin(s) of dumpling Owen – it’s television gold.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn tuned into talkSPORT to talk about the possibility of the bout happening…

Crystal Palace fans react as Alexander Sorloth nears Trabzonspor move

[ad_pod ]Lots of Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the news broke of Alexander Sorloth’s imminent move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

A video was taken of the Norwegian striker at an airport being welcomed by his new supporters like he’s Lionel Messi, despite the move not yet being confirmed by Palace.

The 23-year-old arrived at Selhurst Park in a £9m deal from Norwegian side FC Midtjylland back in January 2018, and it is safe to say that he has been a huge failure for the Eagles.

Sorloth has netted just one goal for the south Londoners, coming against Swansea in the Carabao Cup – he spent time out on loan with Gent last term having found game time hard to come by at Selhurst Park.

Have Sky Sports been exposed as liars this summer? Watch the video below to find out why…

As the move is yet to be made official at the time of writing, we do not know whether the deal is a loan or a permanent transfer, although one would assume the Palace fans will just be happy to see the back of their misfiring No.9.

Let’s take a look at how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to Sorloth’s imminent exit…

Leeds’ transfer flurry shows why fans shouldn’t be so quick to criticise Orta

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

If reports are to be believed, Leeds could be announcing as many as six deals this week.

Liam McCarron, Jack Harrison and Ben White have already signed, but they could very soon be followed by Rafa Mujica, Helder Costa and the return of Jack Clarke on loan.

Victor Orta has clearly been very busy this summer, and this flurry of activity should prove once and for all that Leeds fans should place more trust in their director of football.

Lack of patience

Before the first-team had even reported back to training lots of Leeds fans were moaning about the lack of transfer activity.

Orta has often been the subject of complaints from the fanbase, despite the fact that he has very rarely steered them wrong.

The Spaniard was key in bringing Marcelo Bielsa to the club, and he has earned the Argentine’s trust with his work in the transfer market.

Orta deserves credit

It goes to show how much work has been going on behind the scenes at Elland Road as the first week of July could see six new arrivals.

Indeed, it was important for Leeds to get deals done quickly this summer, and the Spaniard is on track to do just that.

He has listened to the manager as he is looking at signing multiple wingers, after Bielsa reportedly highlighted that as an area that needed strengthening.

The fanbase’s previous complaints about a lack of movement were seemingly unfounded as in the background Orta was preparing to bring in a plethora of new players.

It’s time for some supporters to look beyond their bias and give Orta the credit he deserves for making these deals happen.
