After being tested in a new right-back role against Manchester City in midweek, Ryan Bertrand returned to a more natural left-back position for the Saints’ game against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately for Ralph Hasenhuttl, the 31-year-old produced another poor display, as the Seagulls claimed a 2-1 victory which leaves Southampton looking over their shoulders at the relegation spaces, as their woeful run of form continued at St Mary’s.

The former Chelsea man is yet to agree to a new contract with the South Coast club and Arsenal are reportedly taking an interest in him ahead of the summer, which makes you question whether he is completely focussed on Southampton right now.

As per SofaScore, Bertrand would earn a 6.8/10 rating for his performance, which was nowhere near the worst of any Saints player, however, his attacking play against Brighton was truly awful.

The left-back would fail with his only dribble attempt, whilst only one of his six crosses during the game would find a Southampton shirt.

His passing was nowhere near its usual standard, as he would complete just 33/49 of his passes, resulting in a poor accuracy rate of 67% – significantly below the 79.5% he has averaged in the Premier League this season.

None of his four long balls were accurate and he managed to lose possession on a remarkable 28 occasions, which was the most of any Southampton player on the pitch, and only second to Pascal Gross from Brighton’s team, with the German losing the ball 32 times during the game.

Whilst his defensive game was fairly solid, as he made four tackles and three clearances, the experienced defender’s attacking output has been a cause for concern all season, as he has just one assist to his name in the top-flight, and the game against Brighton was unfortunately no different.

Bertrand has to start offering Hasenhuttl more down the left-hand side from an attacking perspective, especially with the Saints struggling to create opportunities in the absence of Danny Ings.

As one of few experienced options in a fairly young Southampton side, it was a disappointing display from Bertrand once again against Brighton, and hopefully, his form will improve before the end of the season as Hasenhuttl really has his hands tied behind his back when it comes to possibly selecting an alternative, with back-up left-back Jake Vokins having left on loan in January.

وذكرت تقارير صحفية أمس أن نادي فنارخشة مستعد لتقديم عرض مالي ضخم من أجل الظفر بخدمات أوريجي، إلى جانب وجود فرق أخرى.

وحسب الصحفي الإيطالي الشهير فابريزيو رومانو، فإن ليفربول حسم موقفه من فكرة التخلي عن خدمات ديفوك أوريجي في الميركاتو الشتوي الجاري.

وأوضح أن ليفربول لا يخطط لبيع أوريجي هذا الشهر، رغم وجود اهتمام من قِبل عدة أندية إيطالية وألمانية.

وأشار إلى إنه هناك ستكون هناك حاجة إلى أوريجي، خاصة مع عدم وجود إمكانية لحسم صفقات هجومية أخرى في الوقت الحالي.

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for PSG winger Angel Di Maria and if he were to join the North London club, he could be a serious upgrade on Lucas Moura.

What’s the word?

According to reports emerging from Spain, Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for the 32-year-old winger and would love to work with him again, having coached him during his time with Manchester United.

The experienced forward is also potentially available on a free transfer, as his contract with Les Parisiens is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning Spurs could begin negotiations with Di Maria now, with the view to signing him on a free transfer in the summer.

Moura upgrade?

If Di Maria were to join, he would surely demand first-team football, having established himself as one of the best wingers in European football during his time with Real Madrid and PSG. Less so with Manchester United.

The Argentinian was in superb form for PSG last season, contributing eight goals and 14 assists in just 26 Ligue 1 appearances, resulting in an excellent 7.75 rating across the season.

He has also impressed in this campaign so far, having contributed two goals and five assists in just 15 top-flight appearances, resulting in an impressive 7.3 rating.

Therefore, he could definitely be viewed as an upgrade to Spurs winger Lucas Moura, who has managed just one goal in 13 Premier League appearances this season, in which he has averaged a disappointing 6.28 rating.

The Brazilian has averaged just 0.4 shots per game in the top-flight, compared to Di Maria’s 2.2 shots per game so far this season, so it is clear that the 32-year-old could add much more of a goal threat.

Considering Spurs have been so reliant on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son for goals and assists so far this campaign, signing Di Maria could be a game-changer for Mourinho, as it would take the pressure off those two and add some real quality on the wing for the North London club.

Therefore, Daniel Levy must do everything he can to sign the £25.2 million-rated 32-year-old.

West Ham United cannot afford to gamble on David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium amid lavish praise from Jarrod Bowen and Anton Ferdinand.

What’s the word?

Bowen and Ferdinand have been full of praise for the work Moyes has carried out since returning to the London Stadium to succeed Manuel Pellegrini, following an expensive but unsuccessful 18-months under the Chilean.

Pellegrini was behind West Ham’s four-most expensive purchases in club history, but was ultimately sacked in December of last year after a run of nine defeats in 12 games, leaving the east London outfit just a point above the Premier League relegation places.

Moyes ultimately returned to West Ham to steer the ship back to safety and has since gone on to register the Hammers’ best start to a top-flight season since 2015/16 – when they ultimately finished seventh – with the club currently eighth and four points behind the top four.

Bowen believes West Ham’s strong start, featuring wins over Wolves, Leicester and Sheffield United, was sprung by Moyes’ work in securing safety last term, having instructed a struggling side to push their limits.

“The Gaffer wants us to run until we can’t run any more,” Bowen told West Ham’s official club website. “He doesn’t want us to have an easy day and that’s what we need. Since the games when we restarted after lockdown, that hunger, that desire has come through in our performances. It helped us get out of the relegation battle that we didn’t want to be in, and we’ve started this season like how we ended last year.

“The manager’s been really good since I’ve joined, speaking to me about all sorts of things. What I need to improve on the pitch, or what I could do in the gym, what I could do in my spare time. To have the arm around your shoulder from the manager brings the best out of you. The way he’s been with me and dealt with me has been really key to how I’ve settled in.”

Bowen is not alone in lauding the work Moyes has done in 2020, either, with West Ham product Ferdinand a clear advocate of the Scottish coach’s credentials.

“Can I just say David Moyes and his staff have done a fantastic job since coming back,” Ferdinand noted on Twitter. “He’s bought players that work hard first but can still play! Also getting the best out of players like [Arthur] Masuaku, [Pablo] Fornals and [Angelo] Ogbonna.”

GSB can’t afford to gamble on Moyes’ future

The praise flowing Moyes’ way from the likes of Bowen and Ferdinand will leave the West Ham ownership of David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady with no room to gamble on the Scottish coach’s future with his initial 18-month contract set to expire next summer.

Talks over a new deal were said to be ongoing last month but with no signs or urgency, as neither party were in a rush to put pen to paper. Yet progress must come soon, as Moyes has proven himself to be the one to take West Ham forward after the failings of a former Premier League winner in Pellegrini.

As Ferdinand also says, Moyes has managed to get the best from the likes of Masuaku, Fornals and Ogbonna, who all failed to hit any heights under Pellegrini.

Ogbonna has helped West Ham to keep four clean sheets in the league thus far this season, having opened all nine matches and played all bar the final 27 minutes of the 1-0 win over rivals Fulham following a groin injury.

The Italian was only able to help toward eight clean sheets in his 34 starts over 38 league appearances under Pellegrini, while Fornals has matched his top-flight goal return (one goal, three assists in 18 games) under the Chilean in half as many matches this term (two goals, two assists in nine games).

ولم يتوصل الطرفان حتى الآن إلى أي اتفاق بشأن التوقيع على عقد جديد، في ظل الخلاف بين روديجر وناديه حول راتبه السنوي.

وحسب فضائية “El Golazo de Gol” الإسبانية، فإن ريال مدريد يُخطط لإجراء محادثات مع روديجر من أجل حسم الصفقة، حيث ينوي النادي التعاقد معه على طريقة ديفيد ألابا.

ألابا كان لديه عقد مع بايرن ميونخ ينتهي في 30 يونيو الماضي، وأعلن رفضه تجديد تعاقده في فبراير من أجل الانتقال إلى ريال مدريد.

وأوضحت الشبكة في تقريرها أن من المُقرر أن تكون هُناك محادثات ولقاء بين وكلاء أعمال روديجر في يناير القادم.

أكد باولو ديبالا أن فريقه يوفنتوس كان بحاجة لمثل هذه الأمسية التي حقق فيها فوزًا على زينيت سان بطرسبرج برباعية لهدفين، وتأهل لدور الـ16 في دوري أبطال أوروبا.
