Agarkar: I see Shaw playing a part later in the series

Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide after suffering an ankle injury while attempting to take a catch on the deep midwicket boundary on the third day of the tour match against the Cricket Australia XI in Sydney.Shaw got under the catch – from a lofted shot by Max Bryant – but went over on his left ankle as he tried to keep himself inside the boundary. He stayed down on the ground as the India physio raced across to assess him and was then carried off the field into the changing rooms looking in significant pain before going to hospital for scans having been driven around the boundary on a cart.He later returned on crutches and by mid-afternoon confirmation that he was out of at least one Test came through. With the second Test in Perth starting four days after Adelaide is due to finish it could be touch and go whether he will be fit by then.”Shaw underwent scans this morning and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury,” a BCCI statement said. “Shaw will be unavailable for the first Test against Australia in Adelaide. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery.”Shaw was taking time to come to terms with the injury according to R Ashwin. “He is feeling a bit sore and it has swollen up a little bit. it’s sad that it happened the first time he came out on the field. I hope he recovers fast. He has not spoken much. It has hit him pretty hard. He’s young boy who has come to play in Australia for the first time, had a dream start to his test career, so it’s hit him pretty hard.”It’s unfortunate what’s happened, but these things happen. You must have heard these clichés before, but these things do happen and it’s an opportunity for someone else. I believe everything happens for a reason.”Prithvi Shaw lies on the ground in pain after injuring his ankle•Getty Images

It is a significant blow to India as Shaw was pencilled in as one of the openers while India debate who partners him, either KL Rahul who failed in the first innings at the SCG or the recalled M Vijay.Shaw was in sparkling form on the second day at the SCG as he struck a boundary-laden 66 and his arrival in Australia has created much excitement with comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar. He made a superb start to his Test career against West Indies were he scored 237 runs in three innings including a stunning century on debut in Rajkot. After his eye-catching display yesterday, India’s batting coach Sanjay Banger lauded Shaw’s temperament and ability to adapt at such a young age.”In whichever format he’s played he’s made a mark straightaway,” he said. “Wherever he has played he has shown he can adapt to conditions and the stage as well. He plays with a lot of clarity and the impressive thing about him is he gets into good position. The fearlessness of youth probably helps him.”If India do decide to call up a replacement as cover it would probably be between Shikhar Dhawan, who was dropped after the tour of England, or the uncapped Mayank Agarwal.

Um dos indícios do momento do clube é a força no mercado de transferências. Apesar de não ganhar uma fortuna de dinheiro dos patrocinadores e televisão, o Vozão fez investimentos interessantes, que ajudam o time dentro das quatro linhas.

O zagueiro Tiago Pagnussat é a última novidade.

Sacked Cricket Australia staffer Angela Williamson takes case to Federal Court

Angela Williamson, who was dismissed over her tweets criticising the Tasmanian government’s abortion policies, has rejected an alternative job offer from the board

Angela Williamson, the former Cricket Australia (CA) employee sacked over her tweets criticizing the Tasmanian government’s abortion policies, has rejected an alternative job offer from the board, and is set to fight her case in the Federal Court. On Friday, Williamson argued before the Fair Work Commission, in a conciliatory hearing with CA, that she had been unfairly sacked over a political opinion. The two parties failed to come to an amiable agreement, however, and Williamson has resolved to continue her battle in court.”I spoke my mind on a political issue because I believe strongly in the reproductive health rights of Tasmanian women,” Williamson said. “I am disappointed the case didn’t resolve today but I am prepared to continue my fight in the Federal Court.”On Friday, CA chief executive James Sutherland said he had offered Williamson a new role within CA – that of communications manager – community cricket. She had been employed as a government relations manager in Tasmania before her dismissal.”We have reflected on Angela’s dismissal and been empathetic to her personal circumstances and the sensitivity of the underlying issues,” Sutherland said.”Over recent weeks, I have personally been involved in discussions with Angela about a return to CA in the role of communications manager – community cricket. She has informed CA that she will not be taking up the new opportunity and, whilst we are disappointed, we fully respect Angela’s decision.”Kamal Faroque, Williamson’s lawyer, said Williamson had rejected the offer since it was not the same role she had held previously.”Angela Williamson spoke about about women’s access to abortion in Tasmania, and she lost her job. That should never have happened,” Williamson’s lawyer Kamal Farouque said. “We will now continue the case in the Federal Court to determine that she should not have lost her job for expressing a political opinion.”We note that Cricket Australia made a statement early this morning, a few hours prior to the conciliation, disclosing that it had offered Ms Williamson an alternative job.”The offer was made two weeks ago, directly to Ms Williamson by Cricket Australia. Ms Williamson considered the offer and rejected it as it was not the same position she had been dismissed from.”While revealing CA’s offer of an alternative role, Sutherland had stated the organisation’s view that it would be untenable for Williamson to continue in a role that involved engaging with the government.”In our reflections we have also reaffirmed the necessity to administer social media policy while respecting people’s rights to publish personal views,” he said. “The need to be bipartisan in our government engagement has also been acknowledged.”While this is a difficult matter with many aspects and layers, it’s important that in our leadership of cricket in this country, we continue to be guided and influenced by our values. Our values focus heavily on demonstrating appropriate behaviours and showing respect to members and stakeholders of our diverse community all the time.”Getty Images

The tweets that led to Williamson’s sacking criticised Tasmania’s health minister Michael Ferguson, describing him as “most irresponsible … gutless and reckless” for helping the government reject a parliamentary motion to return access to abortions in public hospital. In a report published by Fairfax Media, Williamson revealed she had been compelled to fly from Hobart to Melbourne on the mainland to have a surgical abortion in February this year.Tasmania Police, meanwhile, has dismissed calls for a probe into allegations that Ferguson – who is also police minister – had revealed medical information to CA before she was sacked, when Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins had called him to apologise for Williamson’s tweets.Ferguson has denied these allegations, saying he had no access to Williamson’s private medical information, and that any knowledge he had of her experiences came from what Williamson herself had posted on social media, referring to a link she had tweeted to a article while identifying herself as the subject of the piece. He also denied that he played any role in getting Williamson sacked, and said he had no issues with her expressing her opinions.”Mr Cummins rang me because he was concerned that I would interpret Ms Williamson’s comments as an attack on me by Cricket Tasmania,” Ferguson said in a statement. “My point was that anybody who had seen Ms Williamson’s tweets, as I had, would appreciate that her contribution was a personal one and that it was understandable that she was passionate about the issue.”I expressed that as a politician I am used to public criticism and as Mr Cummins has stated, that I was happy to forgive and forget the tweet Mr Cummins rang me to apologise for. As has already been established, I made no attempt to influence Ms Williamson’s employment status.”In fact, I asked Mr Cummins to understand that the Government was unreservedly willing to keep working positively with Cricket Australia / Tasmania and was not seeking any apology from Ms Williamson.”

Liverpool and Klopp want to sign "huge talent"; club are now ready to sell

Liverpool have reportedly been boosted in their efforts to sign a hugely exciting Premier League player, with a new update now emerging in the saga.

Latest Liverpool transfer news…

The Reds saw their squad significantly change during the summer transfer window, with the midfield the sole era that Jurgen Klopp focused on revamping completely. Out went Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all arrived at Anfield, adding youth and dynamism in the middle of the park that has already stood out this season.

The time will eventually come when other areas of the pitch need addressing, however, with Virgil van Dijk now 32 years of age and Mohamed Salah only a year younger, for example. The latter has already been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ittihad seeing a £150m approach turned down for Salah, and a 2024 exit isn't out of the question. Should that happen, Liverpool may look to sign a replacement, and one player who has emerged as a potential target is Wolves ace Pedro Neto.

The 23-year-old is being backed to join various Premier League clubs, and while he is contracted with Wanderers until the summer of 2027, that doesn't appear to be putting off potential suitors.

Do Liverpool want to sign Pedro Neto?

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool could be handed a boost in their quest to snap up Wolves star Neto, with the Midlands club now "ready to cash in on him while his stock is high". The report goes on to add that the Reds are "firmly in the mix" to sign the 23-year-old, but "they are not alone as interest also stems from Tottenham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa", as well as Arsenal.

Pedro Neto strengths

Pedro Neto weaknesses

Superb dribbler

Injury-prone

Expert crosser

Lacking in aerial duels

Can play on either flank

Finishing can be erratic

This is a clear boost for Liverpool, who may well be having one eye on life without Salah at some point in the near future, even if his time at Anfield doesn't come to an end next summer. The 31-year-old is almost an irreplaceable figure, considering he has been one of the best players in the world over the past five years or so, but in Neto, the Reds could have a fantastic option.

The Wolves man, who shares the same agency as Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, has made a fantastic start to this season, chipping in with four assists in just seven Premier League appearances, one of which came in his side's 3-1 defeat at home to Liverpool, when he gave Joe Gomez a torrid time. At 23, he is still a young player who should only get better, and while injuries have dogged him in the past, the hope is that he has overcome the worst of them.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has lauded Neto as a "huge talent" in the past, and he is one of the most impressive wide players in the league at the moment. His directness, pace and end product are all attributes that are similar to Salah's, and that could well appeal to Klopp, making this one to watch.

Leeds: Academy star could be a ‘phenomenal’ Ampadu partner

Leeds United are no different to any other English club, in that their fans absolutely love to see an academy graduate thrive in the first team.

So, for Daniel Farke, he must surely stick by the notion that 'you do not fix what isn't broken' with regard to one of his current starters.

Deadline Day marked a busy one for the Whites, who scrambled to add some much-needed depth to their squad before the window slammed shut.

Succeeding in doing so, they welcomed three new faces to bring their summer acquisitions up to nine, as a fine number to offset the 15 departures they had overseen.

One of their starring acquisitions at the eleventh hour came for just £5.5m, as they tempted Glen Kamara to trade Ibrox for Elland Road in order to aid their promotion charge.

How good is Glen Kamara?

The Finland international had starred for Rangers ever since moving in 2019 but admitted that "I feel I just needed a change in my career and Leeds is the perfect place to kick-start my career again" in his first interview with his new club.

After all, he had accomplished most of what was possible in Scotland, having won the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, as well as featuring in the Champions League. The 27-year-old is now set to bring a wealth of experience to Yorkshire, with the hope that he can recapture the form that saw him lauded during the 2021/22 campaign.

Maintaining a 7.01 average rating in the league, his six goal contributions and 1.3 key passes per game outlined his creative credentials, but paired it with a 91% pass accuracy and one tackle per game too, adding some solidity as well, via Sofascore.

All signs point towards Kamara being instantly thrown into the starting lineup given what he has achieved in the Scottish top flight, but it should not be that easy for him to usurp the exceptional Archie Gray after his start to the season.

How is Archie Gray playing?

Having only made his competitive debut in Leeds' Championship curtain-raiser with Cardiff City, the 17-year-old impressed many with his mature and combative midfield display in a 2-2 draw.

He has since featured in every single game across all competitions thus far, and earned special praise from club legend Jermaine Beckford on Sky Sports (via Leeds Live): "He played with such maturity, he was so confident on the ball. He didn't rush, he didn't panic at all. Everything about his game today was absolutely spot on, and if today is anything to go by, this kid has such a bright future ahead of him.

"He's in the right place to learn, he's got a little bit of everything in him. Phenomenal player, he did really well today."

Although his 6.6 average rating perhaps does not emphasise the scale of Gray's influence, who is the son, great nephew and grandson of three former Whites stars, his 84% pass accuracy and 1.4 tackles does showcase that quality in possession and toughness in the tackle that has earned praise, via Sofascore.

The partnership he has struck up with Ethan Ampadu marks one of the few shining lights to emerge from a term where they have just one league win thus far, as the Wales international acts as more of a dictator to allow his teenage teammate to spread the play.

As such, the 22-year-old maintains an 86% pass accuracy alongside 1.2 key passes, 2.4 tackles and 2.2 clearances per game in the league, via Sofascore.

Another pundit, Michael Dawson, outlined the kind of creativity that this foundation allows Gray to showcase: "The ball from Archie Gray is absolutely sensational. He picks the ball up just on the right-hand side in his own half and hits a long diagonal pass to Sinisterra, who runs at Harry Clarke and he lets him get in the box, chop inside and whip the ball into the far post."

Although Kamara may be the outstanding option on paper, Gray has certainly merited a sustained period of first-team football to continue solidifying a fine partnership with the former Chelsea general.

Prior to managing Burnley, the Manchester City legend was in charge of Belgian side Anderlecht for two years, this has led to him poaching some of his best players from his former side.

One of these players is 27-year-old midfielder Josh Cullen, and as it stands Kompany’s decision to sign the Irishman looks to be an inspired one.

How much did Burnley pay for Josh Cullen?

Burnley central midfielder Josh Cullen.

Kompany first signed Cullen for Anderlecht back in 2020 from West Ham for £500k, and during his two seasons in Belgium the midfielder would go on to make 80 appearances.

But when the four-time Premier League winner made the switch to Turf Moor, the Hammer's academy graduate was quick to follow.

Cullen became Kompany’s fourth signing and moved back to England just 11 days after his manager made the switch, for a fee of £3m including add-ons.

Since his signing last summer, the Irish international has already signed a new contract three-year contract with the Clarets.

After signing the deal, he announced he couldn't wait to continue playing for Burnley.

Speaking to Burnley he said:

“I’m really happy to extend my time here, especially off the back of last year which was a really successful year for the Club.

I can’t wait to continue my career with Burnley.

“It will be great to get back to Turf Moor this weekend and be in front of the fans again and hopefully get our first three points on the board.”

Why did Kompany sign Josh Cullen twice?

Kompany snapped up Cullen again after his excellent performances under him during the 2021/22 campaign, which saw Anderlecht finish third in the Belgian Pro League.

Per Sofascore, the English-born midfielder was his side’s third top-performing player, with an outstanding average rating of 7.20.

On top of this, he also ranked second for accurate passes per game (62.2), fourth for key passes per game (1.1), third for accurate long balls per game (4.4) and first for tackles per game (2), per Sofascore.

This shows just how integral he was to Kompany’s all-round play as his quality in many different areas allowed him to control the middle of the pitch.

Furthermore, while Cullen was on loan at Charlton from West Ham, then Irons captain Mark Noble revealed in the Evening Standard what a talented player he was.

Noble said:

“Josh has something you can’t coach,”

“He has that desire every day to improve.

“He’s a talented boy with a big heart and will enjoy a good career in football.

“It just shows you that if you’re prepared to back yourself and go out on loan, rather than staying in the comfort zone, you can do it.”

What has happened to Josh Cullen since moving to Burnley?

Soccer Football – World Cup – UEFA Qualifiers – Group A – Luxembourg v Republic of Ireland – Stade de Luxembourg, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg – November 14, 2021 Republic of Ireland’s Josh Cullen in action with Luxembourg’s Daniel Sinani REUTERS/Pascal Rossignol

Cullen’s top-quality form continued after moving to Turf Moor as the midfielder was able to help guide Burnley to win the Championship last season.

His form was also shown through his stats, per FBref, last season he ranked in the top 4% of all European midfielders for passes completed, per 90 minutes.

Furthermore, he ranked in the top 7% for touches, top 2% for successful take-ons and top 7% for carries, per 90 minutes.

This shows how once again he was the star of Kompany's midfield, as all play was able to go through him, and then he had the ability to move the ball successfully up the pitch into an attacking position.

This was backed up by the Belgian colossus, who last season was full of praise for Cullen.

He said:

"I can't be complimentary enough, but I think everyone can see what he does.

"The team appreciates it; his strength is that he's the ultimate player that puts the team before himself.

“Football naturally always drives you towards being selfish, it just happens that way because you've got to look after yourself, and there are only very few players, despite all of that, who decide to make a conscious choice to put the team above themselves.

"You can't really scout that, you only know it when you work with players.

“The best way to describe Josh [Cullen] is that he came to Anderlecht, from Charlton, as a squad player, and he became the most important player in my squad.

"Then he came to Burnley, back in English football in the Championship, where he was really going to help us out, and he became one of the most important players in the team."

Due to his outstanding performances, the 27-year-old has seen his value rise astronomically, per Transfermarkt he is now rated at £11.1m meaning Burnley have seen a 270% increase in his value from when they signed him only a year ago.

Cullen has backed up his Championship performances by having a strong start to life in the Premier League.

So far this season he ranks as Burnley’s seventh-best-performing player, with an average rating of 6.73, per Sofascore.

On top of this, he has ranked joint first for big chances created per game (1), fourth for accurate passes per game (46.3) and third for tackles per game (1.3).

This shows that despite making a big step up the midfielder is still able have a positive effect on his side

He has also started every game and played every minute so far this season, while also providing an assist, which means he has been involved in 33% of Burnley’s goals.

BCB looking at Kirsten for wide-ranging consultant's role

The BCB head says the board is at an advanced stage of talks with the former South Africa batsman, and will also name a batting consultant soon – Neil McKenzie is reportedly a front-runner for this role

Mohammad Isam20-Dec-2017

BCB

The BCB has taken a slow and steady approach to appointing Bangladesh’s next head coach, according to president Nazmul Hassan. He also said that the board is at an advanced stage of talks with Gary Kirsten for a wide-ranging consultancy role, and days away from signing a new batting consultant for the senior side.”We are on the back foot, that’s for sure,” Hassan said. “[Chandika] Hathurusingha’s departure has been a blow. You can’t just take any coach, but someone who fits our environment and mentality. Bangladesh has reached a level which requires us to be thoughtful about bringing a quality coach. Not much chance of a trial and error; we cannot change much in our team. We are not in any hurry.”Kirsten was among the big-name coaching candidates linked to the head-coach’s role as well, but Hassan said that they are in talks with him about a more short-term role as he has two other coaching contracts in the IPL – he is likely to link up with Royal Challengers Bangalore – and the Big Bash League.”We were talking to Gary Kirsten for a consultant’s role. He would help us figure out what coach to hire for our national team, high-performance side and the Under-19s. He is booked up to February, in the Big Bash. He is involved with the IPL and Big Bash, which is why he is not interested to be the head coach.”If we permitted him to work in those leagues, then he may have agreed with us. But we can’t let our head coach go like that, which is what we have decided.”Hassan said that they are closing in on the deal with Kirsten. “He is available in the time outside his other roles. At this point, both sides are interested in the [consultancy] role. He will have an overall role in the development of Bangladesh cricket. It might be for six months, but it is hard to pinpoint these things without talking to him first. He is probably coming after February.”Hassan said that the new batting consultant appointment could be made as early as this week. Another former South Africa batsman in Neil McKenzie is reportedly a front-runner in the role, although the BCB was previously in talks with Grant Flower and Hashan Tillakaratne as well.”We are very close to announcing someone as a batting consultant. We wanted someone full-time but the person we’ve chosen is of a higher level. He said we don’t need a full-time batting consultant. He has said he will be here ahead of every series and when there are long breaks,” Hassan said, without revealing the name.

Crystal Palace In Loan Talks For "Direct" £7k-p/w Player

Crystal Palace are in negotiations regarding a loan deal to sign Chelsea ace Lewis Hall, according to reliable reports.

Who is Lewis Hall?

Hall is naturally a left-back and academy graduate at Stamford Bridge having worked his way up through the various youth ranks to get promoted to the first team this summer having impressed during pre-season, but prior to that, he’s only ever made 12 senior appearances for his boyhood club in the Premier League.

The England youth international was statistically his side’s second best defensive performing player last season – albeit on limited game time – and it’s therefore been reported that the Blues are keen to reward him with a new contract, despite still having another three years to run on his existing one.

However, it’s important that the 18-year-old receives the sufficient game time he needs in order to take the next step in his career which will mean temporarily hitting the road should he want to be a regular starter elsewhere, and it would seem that he could be on his way to join Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park.

Are Crystal Palace signing Lewis Hall?

According to Sky Sports' Transfer Centre, Crystal Palace are "in talks" with Chelsea regarding a loan deal for Hall this summer.

Pochettino does view the defender as a player in his "long-term plans" and "wants him to get regular football" during the upcoming season, therefore meaning that any kind of move would not include an option or obligation to buy as he would be returning to his parent club upon the conclusion of his spell in SE25.

The Eagles would be able to offer him the minutes he requires, so this is definitely one to keep a close eye on for developments in the coming days.

Chelsea defender Lewis Hall.

How good is Lewis Hall?

First of all, Crystal Palace have Tyrick Mitchell as their only option at left-back so it’s vital that Hodgson not only enters the market to find a back-up in that position but also to sign someone who can seriously push the former for his starting place. Having been lauded a “direct” player with great balance and ability on the ball by journalist Josh Bunting, Hall could be the perfect candidate to put pen to paper.

The Slough-born talent last season averaged 2.6 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per top-flight game, via WhoScored, so he’s strong in the natural defensive aspect of his play, but he’s even more of a threat when bursting down the flank to the final third.

Since the start of his career, Chelsea’s £7k-per-week earner has posted 32 goal contributions (19 assists and 13 goals) in 86 appearances which shows that he loves to use his pace to drive forward, whip tempting balls into the box and create as many chances for himself and his fellow teammates as possible.

Finally, Hall shares the same agent, Wasserman, as Jordan Ayew, so this existing connection that his representative already has to the club could potentially give them a small advantage should the hierarchy continue to pursue a deal in the final weeks of the window.
