Spurs: Michael Bridge raves over Vlahovic

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge believes that Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic would be a ‘dream’ signing for Tottenham and Daniel Levy, as per GiveMeSport.

The Lowdown: Spurs links

Spurs appear to be in a battle with north London rivals Arsenal when it comes to a possible move for the 21-year-old.

Reports earlier this week suggested that Fabio Paratici boasts a close relationship with Vlahovic’s representatives and that a summer move could be in the pipeline.

Arsenal are looking into a transfer this month, with Italian agent Beppe Accardi believing that Spurs could be the Serbian’s next destination.

The Latest: Bridge’s comments

Bridge was talking to GiveMeSport regarding Vlahovic, labelling the 21-year-old as a ‘dream’ signing for Levy due to his sell-on value down the line.

The journalist gushed: “I don’t see one negative about this player. He’s 21, it’s a dream for Daniel Levy in terms of any sell-on value. He likes to buy players with sell-on value, of course he does, who doesn’t?”

The Verdict: Perfect

Vlahovic has bagged 19 goals in just 23 appearances this season and appears to be a future star. Tottenham are in need of an attacking addition to partner Harry Kane, and winning the race for the Serbian hitman could be a big piece of business in both the short- and long-term.

The Daily Mail have claimed that the 21-year-old could cost £58m and demand a £300,000-per-week wage. However, he may prove to be worth every penny, as you’d expect that the youngster will further improve his already impressive game.

Should he continue his fine form, then Spurs may not have to worry about the finances as they could end up making a major profit down the line, but they first need to make sure that they win the race for his services ahead of arch-rivals Arsenal.

A pedida salarial agradou a diretoria, e agora a negociação depende do aval do técnico Zé Ricardo.

Journo drops claim on Sanches to Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a great first half to their season and will be hoping to continue their consistency and improve areas of their team in the transfer window in order to elevate their chances of finishing in a position which could secure European football next term.

What’s the word?

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook spoke on Jim White’s morning show on Thursday to discuss potential January transfer, giving updates on the rumoured activities of Premier League clubs.

Crook spoke about the potential deal between Wolves and Renato Sanches, claiming that the Old Gold are “looking quite closely” at the 24-year-old. He revealed: “Wolves were trying to push through a deal for Renato Sanches (on deadline day). That move broke down due to a medical issue. He is now fit and is a player, as I understand it, that Wolves are looking quite closely at again.”

The £47k-p/w gem has been heavily linked to a move to Molineux for a while now, and it seemed in the summer that Sanches would become a Wolves player, but the deal fell through on deadline day. However, Bruno Lage could now potentially get a second chance of securing his signature in January.

Fans will be buzzing

Fans will surely be buzzing with the news that Wolves could be reigniting their interest in the Lille midfielder, who won the European Golden Boy award five years ago after his starring role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 triumph.

After popular fan account Wolves Fancast tweeted: “Where do you stand on the rumours Wolves could return to sign Renato Sanches in January? Think it’s possible? Think it’s a PR move that will allow the club to say they tried but couldn’t get over the line before announcing the signing of Hwang to soften the blow?”, one fan replied: “His quality warrants us going in for him again. I’d rather give it everything and fail than not try at all.”

Signing him would be a phenomenal achievement for the Midlands club, considering that Sanches has played his part in qualifying with Lille for the Champions League round of 16, whilst Wolves are currently challenging just to finish in a top half spot in the Premier League. If he were to join the Old Gold, it would surely be with the expectations to secure European football.

Lage could have an outstanding transfer window if he can get this potential signing over the line for the club, and he will be likely working hard to avoid another deadline day disappointment.

Sehwag reaches No.1 in Test rankings

The Indian opener has taken the top spot after hitting successive centuries against South Africa

Cricinfo staff20-Feb-2010Virender Sehwag, the Indian opener, has taken the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings after hitting successive centuries against South Africa. With a rapid 165 in the Kolkata Test, which India won to stay top of the ICC rankings for teams, and 109 in Nagpur before that, Sehwag has displaced good friend and fellow Test opener Gautam Gambhir.Sehwag sits top of the pile with 863 points, while Gambhir has dropped to fifth position with 824. He had tremendous success in 2009 – an average of 108.98 in six Tests – and in the four Tests he has played this year, Sehwag already has two centuries. He was also the recipient of the prize for best Test innings, for the second year running, for the ESPNcricinfo Awards where his audacious 293 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai was chosen over four other nominations shortlisted for the award.South Africa’s Hashim Amla, whose three centuries in three innings against India earned him two Man-of-the-Match awards and the Man-of-the-Series accolade, has leapfrogged to second place in the rankings with 842 points.Sachin Tendulkar, who also scored two centuries in the two-Test series with South Africa, occupies sixth place with 805 points. In the ICC’s ranking for one-day internationals, India’s captain MS Dhoni has moved back to No. 1, displacing Michael Hussey with whom he has shared a tussle for the top spot. Hussey scored 23 in his last innings and thus fell below Dhoni who has a chance to stay on top for longer with three ODIs lined up against South Africa. Ricky Ponting has jumped four places to occupy fourth place. The other big mover is Doug Bollinger, who has gained 25 places and has broken into the top 20 for the first time in his career. Bollinger took 11 wickets in the five-ODI series against West Indies to help Australia to a 4-0 victory. He now sits in 18th position in the latest rankings, not far behind Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis.

PCB to lodge complaint with ICC

The PCB has decided to appeal to the ICC regarding the decision of IPL franchises not to pick a single Pakistani player of the 11 on the auction list

Protests continue over the exclusion of 11 Pakistan players from the IPL•Getty Images

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appeal to the ICC regarding the exclusion of all 11 Pakistani players from the IPL after the auction in Mumbai this week. Since the IPL is a domestic tournament, it is outside the ICC’s purview and so it is unlikely cricket’s ruling body will be able to do much about it, but the matter continues to rage on in Pakistan.”We will be lodging a complaint with the ICC and I will personally table this issue at the next meeting of the ICC executive board on February 10,” said Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, after a meeting with the country’s sports minister in Lahore. “The IPL may be a private and commercial enterprise but this issue involves the pride of a nation and we are going to pursue it with the ICC.”Pakistan’s players have reacted with anger and attributed the blackout to politics and Butt had already expressed his disappointment. Echoing these views, Pakistan sports minister Ijaz Jhakrani has now termed the exclusion of Pakistan players “a serious issue.””How can they [IPL franchises] avoid bidding for players from the world champion team?” he said after meeting the PCB chairman. “It’s our unanimous decision to take up this issue at the highest forum and lodge our protest at the ICC.” As a sign of protest against the snub to Pakistan’s cricketers, the speaker of the lower house had also stopped a parliamentary delegation from traveling to India. The Indian government was quick to distance itself from the results of the IPL auction, while N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary and owner of the Chennai Super Kings franchise, has said has said the Indian board and government had nothing to do with the player selections.Butt, however, said these were excuses without substance. “They should tell us if franchises had reservations about signing Pakistani players because they were worried about security issues and availability of the players why were our players included in the auction in the first place,” he said. “If IPL franchise have so many issues with signing our players then why did the IPL first approach us to send them government clearances for the players.”

Anamul and Mominul guide Bangladesh home

Scorecard
Bangladesh Under-19 took a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe Under-19 with a convincing six-wicket win in Khulna. In pursuit of 205, they were boosted by a collective display, as each batsman chipped in with contributions towards the victory. Two that stood out were wicketkeeper Anamul Haque (52), who set the tone for a successful chase with an opening stand of 76 with Saikat Ali, and Mominul Haque, whose 80-ball 63, laced with six boundaries, guided his team home.Zimbabwe’s below-par score was a result of a collapse in the death overs, where they lost seven wickets for just 42. They were in a position to build a more competitive total, as half-centuries from Dean Mazhawidza (77) and Gary Chirimuta (51), had taken them to a strong position at 164 for 3 – the pair had added 110 for the fourth wicket. But Kamrun Islam’s economical spell of 3 for 37, and support from the other bowlers, stopped Zimbabwe in their tracks, giving Bangladesh an opportunity to seal a comprehensive win.

David Brown leaves Gloucestershire early

David Brown, the Gloucestershire allrounder, is being released by the club a year before his contract expires after struggling for many first-team opportunities. The highlight of Brown’s four years at Gloucestershire came during the 2006 C&G Trophy when he hit 63 off 26 balls against Surrey. During the recent season he made three Friends Provident Trophy and four Twenty20 Cup appearances and five Pro40 appearances.”David Brown as an all rounder at the club has had few opportunities this season and, looking forward, we both agreed that it would be in everyone’s best interest if he moved on,” John Bracewell, the director of cricket, said. “We would all like to express our gratitude to David and wish him every success in the future.”Brown added that he hopes to continue his professional career. “I have really enjoyed my years at Gloucestershire and would like to thank the players and members for all their support over the whole period,” he said. “I plan to continue my career and look forward to playing against my former colleagues soon.”

A situação do lateral é bem complicada.

Dúvida no time é a presença do volante Lucas Romero.
