Leeds’ transfer flurry shows why fans shouldn’t be so quick to criticise Orta

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

If reports are to be believed, Leeds could be announcing as many as six deals this week.

Liam McCarron, Jack Harrison and Ben White have already signed, but they could very soon be followed by Rafa Mujica, Helder Costa and the return of Jack Clarke on loan.

Victor Orta has clearly been very busy this summer, and this flurry of activity should prove once and for all that Leeds fans should place more trust in their director of football.

Lack of patience

Before the first-team had even reported back to training lots of Leeds fans were moaning about the lack of transfer activity.

Orta has often been the subject of complaints from the fanbase, despite the fact that he has very rarely steered them wrong.

The Spaniard was key in bringing Marcelo Bielsa to the club, and he has earned the Argentine’s trust with his work in the transfer market.

Orta deserves credit

It goes to show how much work has been going on behind the scenes at Elland Road as the first week of July could see six new arrivals.

Indeed, it was important for Leeds to get deals done quickly this summer, and the Spaniard is on track to do just that.

He has listened to the manager as he is looking at signing multiple wingers, after Bielsa reportedly highlighted that as an area that needed strengthening.

The fanbase’s previous complaints about a lack of movement were seemingly unfounded as in the background Orta was preparing to bring in a plethora of new players.

It’s time for some supporters to look beyond their bias and give Orta the credit he deserves for making these deals happen.

Ridiculous! Liverpool fans react to outrageous Kylian Mbappe speculation

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in a frenzy after talk of a move to Anfield for Kylian Mbappe started to hot up, but only through some questionably weak links largely based around holiday destinations and social media activity.

Firstly, respected journalist Paul Joyce from The Times strangely retweeted a video of Kylian Mbappe showing his first day in the United States on his own official Twitter account.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

Secondly, Mbappe himself posted a picture alongside LeBron James, who is a 2% stakeholder in Liverpool Football Club.

Additionally, the rumours have only gone more into overdrive after Jurgen Klopp travelled to the US to celebrate his birthday weekend in Las Vegas.

So the Reds manager and a shareholder are in the US with Mbappe, whilst a major Liverpool reporter is retweeting one of the young Frenchman’s posts.

You can see why Liverpool fans have become excited, but this transfer would surely cost Liverpool a world-record fee and would be too difficult to complete.

Let’s see what lots of Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Mbappe…

Perfect Ozil replacement: Arsenal need to swoop for Mario Gotze

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal are interested in signing Mario Gotze, according to Bild.

What’s the word?

The 63-cap German international has endured a rough time since his signature World Cup-winning goal in 2014, struggling with form and injuries during a dismal spell at Bayern Munich.

The former prodigy left Bavaria in 2016 to re-sign with his boyhood club where he has enjoyed something of a renaissance, scoring seven goals and providing seven in assists in the Bundesliga this season.

With just one year left on his current deal, Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

Prepare for the explosion

Gotze’s dramatic fall from German football’s poster child to irrelevant understudy can be at least partially explained by horrendous luck.

Muscular injuries hampered his time at Bayern and a rare metabolic illness sidelined him for seven months, essentially forcing the attacking midfielder to hit re-start on his career.

Despite his fall from grace now is the time for Arsenal to pounce on the perfect Mesut Ozil replacement. Unai Emery’s frustrations with their top-earner are well documented, but a lack of financially viable replacements has helped make any departure difficult.

Gotze is that affordable and talented option.

Finally injury-free and still yet to truly enter his prime years, the Bayern flop has another opportunity to realise his potential. Criticised for his attitude in the past, the midfielder’s injury struggles and poor form seem to have had a humbling effect and made him determined to succeed.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

The Dortmund playmaker’s team-first comments after struggling for playing time earlier this season under Lucian Favre support this mental growth.

Gotze’s failed explosion of seven years ago could finally be ready to take flight and Arsenal need to grab hold before it’s too late.

Sheffield United: Wilder must consider summer swoop for Oliver McBurnie

What a year it has been to be a Sheffield United supporter.

After overcoming the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs last May, Chris Wilder made a number of vital additions to his squad which subsequently allowed the Blades to launch a successful bid for promotion in the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite facing tough opposition from the likes of Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion in the battle for the top-two, the South Yorkshire-based outfit managed to secure a second place finish in the Championship with one player, in particular, stepping up to the mark for his team.

By firing in 23 goals in 40 league games for the Blades, Billy Sharp provided a vital outlet for Wilder’s side as by forming a fantastic partnership with David McGoldrick, the 33-year-old was able to create history at Bramall Lane.

However, despite his recent heroics, it is clear that in order for United to thrive in the top-flight next season, they simply have to bring in some competition for Sharp this summer.

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Blades are reportedly lining up a move for Swansea City star Oliver McBurnie yet may have to fight off Brighton & Hove Albion to secure his services.

An outstanding young talent, the Scotland international helped the Jacks secure a 10th place finish in the second tier by scoring 22 goals and providing four assists for his team-mates.

Clearly capable of making the step up in level to the Premier League, McBurnie has all the ingredients needed to become a hero for United and would be the ideal long-term replacement for Sharp.

If Wilder decides to splash the cash on the £4.5m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt), it could make all the difference in the Blades’ quest to prolong their stay in the top-flight over the coming years.

What do you think United fans? Would you welcome a move for McBurnie this summer? Could he be the ideal replacement for Sharp? Let us know below.

[ad_pod ]

Everton fans on Twitter have been reacting to a tunnel access video from after Sunday’s Premier League thrashing of Manchester United at Goodison Park.

The clip was posted by the Toffees’ official account on the social media platform and followed some of Marco Silva’s men as they made their way back to the changing rooms post-match.

And eagle-eyed supporters have noticed a few of the odd and bizarre things that were going on in the tunnel on Merseyside following the stunning victory.

Three of them noted that attacker Bernard had United’s Fred waiting for his top in the players’ area, with one of them musing about how he was giving it to a fan whilst another lauded Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s comical entrance and two more commented on Idrissa Gueye’s singing skills.

On the day, goals from Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott were enough for a 4-0 drubbing for the Merseysiders, giving them a huge boost in their bid to finish seventh.

Our saviour: Crystal Palace fans heap praise on Vicente Guaita

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to laud Vicente Guaita for his performance against Newcastle, in which the stopper managed to record another shutout.

The Eagles have now kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, the fourth most in the division behind Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea, and that good statistic is largely down to the Spanish keeper.

Which player with “no potential” has just been named Crystal Palace’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video below…

He found himself out of the side throughout the first half of the campaign as Wayne Hennessey had the shirt, although since making his debut against Leicester at Selhurst Park, Guaita has shone.

In the 1-0 win against the Magpies, the former Getafe glovesman pulled off a number of vital saves, most notably from Matt Ritchie and Salomon Rondon – it was the sixth clean sheet from his 14 league appearances this term, from which Palace have seven wins.

Palace fans on Twitter were delighted with their man’s performance at St James’ Park, and were keen to emphasise their feelings on the 32-year-old after having to put up with the mistake-ridden Hennessey for so long…

Mark Lawrenson says there is ‘no chance’ of Huddersfield repeating history at Selhurst Park

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace host Huddersfield this weekend in their first outing at Selhurst Park since the shattering 2-1 loss to Brighton on 9th March and, having picked themselves up during international break, will be hoping to get back to winning ways against the Terriers.

Jan Siewert’s side will be mathematically relegated if they suffer defeat this weekend, while Roy Hodgson’s red and blue army will move one big step closer to survival. Another round of Premier League fixtures means another round of predictions from BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson, who believes there is ‘no chance’ of history repeating itself at SE25 this weekend:

“Huddersfield gave it a good go at West Ham last time out but they still lost after being 3-1 up with 15 minutes to go, which kind of sums up why they are so far adrift at the bottom of the table.

“This fixture was Huddersfield’s first game in the Premier League in August 2017, when they won 3-0 at Selhurst Park, but there is no chance of a repeat result this time around.”

The mention of Frank de Boer’s abysmal first competitive game in charge surely sends shivers down the spines of the Palace faithful, who turned up to Selhurst Park on opening day, only to be thumped by a newly-promoted Terriers side. Unfortunately for the Yorkshire outfit, it has been pretty much downhill since that euphoria one-and-a-half years ago.

Which player with “no potential” has just been named Crystal Palace’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video below…

Palace might have had a disappointing couple of weeks but Huddersfield inexplicably let their lead at the London Stadium go last time out and so it looks unlikely that they will be able to clip the Eagles’ wings once again. The 2-0 that Lawrenson predicts indicates a pretty straight-forward 90 minutes for the south London outfit – a far cry from that August 2017 nightmare.
