Arsenal fans react as Wilfried Zaha sets up Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal fans have been reacting to Nicolas Pepe’s goal for the Ivory Coast after an incredible assist from summer target Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha, aged 26, played a part in his team’s successes during Ivory Coast’s 3-1 win against DR Congo on Sunday.

Supporters were in awe as his superb skill led to Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe getting on the scoresheet. The Ivorian netted in injury time along with Wilfried Kanon to secure the win during the all-African friendly match.

The Gunners were heavily linked with the Crystal Palace winger during the summer – with BBC Sport even reporting on a £40m offer – and Zaha admitted that his “head was a bit all over the place” after the summer transfer window closed, per BBC Africa (via the Daily Mail).

Arsenal fans were excited to see Zaha produce the moment of magic which led to their club’s £72m signing scoring from close range.

One supporter said that it would be an “insane statement” from the club to capture the former Manchester United midfielder, while others predicted he’ll be coming to the Emirates soon.

Man Utd fans think Lingard is set for Arsenal masterclass after Rochdale assist

[ad_pod ]

Don’t panic, but Jesse Lingard has bagged himself an assist.

The Manchester United man has been in wretched form since the start of last season, and has come increasingly under fire for his performances.

A stat that went viral back in mid-August pointed out how the England international had not registered a league goal or assist this calendar year, and it looked highly unlikely the run would be ending anytime soon.

But in an incredibly early Christmas miracle, Lingard saw his lay-off finished off by Mason Greenwood in the clash against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

After seeing the 26-year-old end his hoodoo, United fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the midfielder.

Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted Lingard has now returned to form and would be back to delivering his best.

Some Red Devils fans pointed out how United’s next fixture is against Arsenal, and insisted the Englishman has timed his return to form perfectly.

Leeds should count themselves lucky after Victor Orta transfer decision

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

As Ryan Kent signed a £7m deal with Rangers on Monday, all hope of Leeds landing the promising winger were firmly quashed.

Or had they already been stamped upon by one of their own?

This summer, Victor Orta made a late swoop for striker Eddie Nketiah. Impressing the Arsenal hierarchy in a Dragons’ Den style process, the Leeds official convinced the Gunners to let him join the Whites.

Their attention, according to Yorkshire Evening Post, had switched from Ryan Kent.

The former Liverpool man was at the heart of a long-running transfer saga stretching back to July and possibly even beyond but ultimately he didn’t join.

Only in January, Leeds came within inches of landing another winger, Daniel James.

He is enjoying life at Manchester United now, scoring three goals in the early stages of the campaign but it could have been so much different.

The Welshman was sat at Elland Road waiting to be unveiled until Swansea pulled the plug.

With Kent, however, it was Leeds pulling out.

They had agreed a fee with Liverpool of £4m, potentially rising to the £7m he’s now moved to Scotland for, but for one reason or another, they moved for Nketiah instead.

Considering his deal was only a loan, it was a cheap decision but it was the right one.

To put it simply, Leeds didn’t need another winger. Instead, they needed a forward and one capable of scoring goals.

Kent netted six for Rangers in 2018/19, a total that doesn’t even eclipse Jack Harrison’s tally from last term. His goal on the opening weekend has been cited as the reason for why Leeds looked elsewhere in the transfer market.

One of Leeds’ strengths falls in a wide area and throwing £7m at Kent would have been foolish.

After all, this is a Leeds team that is yet to feature Helder Costa from the start in the Championship. It’s also a side that can’t find room for a bright prospect in Jack Clarke. So how would the 22-year-old stand any chance himself?

Clarke rejoined Leeds on loan after moving to Spurs but has played just twice in the cup competitions and rather ironically is probably the victim of Nketiah’s arrival.

Leeds are only allowed five loans in a matchday squad and the Arsenal man became their sixth.

But truth be told, the club should thank its lucky stars that they turned their focus to a striker. If they hadn’t signed Nketiah and went for Kent instead, it would have been baffling.

Leeds only have two first-team strikers as it is, one of which missed 22 games because of injury last season. A striker was what they needed and a striker was what they got.

Adding another winger wouldn’t have made sense. Thus, Orta’s summer decision was the right one.

Man Utd fans slam FIFA 20 ratings for Paul Pogba and David de Gea

[ad_pod ]

The game that drives all football fans crazy, but still has them coming back for more.

The annual FIFA series has continued to grow over the years, and is the main staple for football lovers who are into their video games. Sorry PES fans, it’s the truth.

This year’s iteration is FIFA20, and whilst it still has a couple of weeks before it fully releases, the official ratings for the top 100 players have been revealed.

Manchester United fans understandably cast their eye over the two stars that featured amongst the best of the best, and it’s fair to say it didn’t go down too well.

Despite David de Gea and Paul Pogba coming in at 89 and 88 overalls respectively, Red Devils supporters flooded to Twitter to slam EA’s ratings system.

Many fans of the Manchester side questioned how Pogba could be lower-rated than Kevin De Bruyne despite being the “best performing midfielder” last season.

Some supporters vented their fury at seeing De Gea being given a lower rating than Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, and insisted the Spaniard has been “disrespected”.

West Brom fans hail Kenneth Zohore after opening his Baggies account with late equaliser

[ad_pod ]

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic will be pleased with his decision-making after Kenneth Zohore opened his Baggies account with a late equaliser after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The 25-year-old was introduced for fellow summer arrival Charlie Austin in the 76th minute before he confidently stepped up to slot home a penalty with just two minutes to go in the match.

Young Liverpool starlet Ovie Ejaria had opened the scoring for the visitors five minutes before Bilic brought Zohore into the action.

After three Championship starts without a goal, the striker found himself on the bench but his late heroics meant West Brom’s unbeaten start to the season continued on.

A number of fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance.

One supporter thought it was all starting to come together as the 6 foot 2 forward troubled defenders with his running which changed the game in the Baggies’ favour.

That was echoed by another member of the Hawthorns crowd who claimed that Zohore did more in five minutes than Austin had managed all game.

The former Denmark U21 international joined the club in the summer from Championship rivals Cardiff City for £8m and has a pretty reasonable goalscoring record in England’s second tier.

Across both 2016/17 and 2017/18, Zohore netted 21 goals in 65 appearances.

Arsenal shouldn’t go anywhere near West Ham’s Issa Diop valuation

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal were put off from making a move for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop, after discovering the Hammers’ reported £65m valuation.

What’s the word?

Unai Emery’s side conceded 51 goals in the Premier League last season, giving them the second-worst defensive record in the top six. The Gunners have also been rocked by the actions of club captain Laurent Koscielny, whilst the future of fellow centre-back Shkodran Mustafi remains uncertain.

Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The report claims that the north London side turned to Diop in the hope of opening talks for the Frenchman, but ended their interest after hearing his price.

The right decision

Whilst the Gunners’ reported £40m budget has seemingly proven to be inaccurate this summer, the north London side still don’t boast the kind of financial power of a Manchester City or Liverpool. Emery’s search for a new commanding central defender is understandable given their defensive struggles in recent campaigns, but the Gunners appear to have other priorities first; namely a winger and left-back.

[ad_pod id=”Premiership Picks”]

Parting with around £65m for Diop would not have made the most business sense, particularly when you look at some of the other transfer deals for defenders this summer. Matthijs de Ligt signed for Juventus earlier this transfer window for just £2.5m more than what the Hammers seemingly want for their 22-year-old.

As Arsenal have already seen with their loan swoop for Dani Ceballos, there are bargains to be had. It’s just about filtering through the bad ones to get to the good, and spending £65m on Diop simply wouldn’t have been that.

The Verdict: Can Draxler replace Eriksen at Spurs?

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for PSG attacking midfielder Julian Draxler this summer amid uncertainty over Christian Eriksen’s future, per L’Equipe.

The French club are looking to raise funds in order to comply with financial fair play regulations.

And there is a claim that Draxler could move for €40m in the coming month, with Spurs making early enquiries as to a move. His contract does not expire until 2021 and he made a total of 46 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.

Eriksen, of course, has expressed his desire to leave Spurs this summer and potentially make a “step up” with a transfer.

He has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in recent months and it appears inevitable that he will depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the first game of the 2019/20 season.

But would Draxler, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, be an adequate replacement for Mauricio Pochettino’s men?

Football FanCast’s writers give their verdicts below!

Jack Saville

“Draxler could be a valuable asset at Tottenham but he’s far from an adequate replacement for Eriksen. The Dane is integral to Pochettino’s system and Draxler doesn’t possess the level of creative responsibility to become the beating heart of the north London side’s midfield. Daniel Levy needs to aim higher in his search for Eriksen’s replacement as nothing less than world class will suffice.”

Billy Meyers

“For all the early potential he showed, Draxler has never made shockwaves at PSG due to a crippling lack of consistency. For all the stick he gets from Spurs fans, Eriksen is actually fairly consistent and has recorded some excellent numbers over the years. Draxler, in that respect, wouldn’t be a good replacement for what is a key player for the Lilywhites. A nice squad option, definitely, but not up to the standard of Eriksen.”

Matt Dawson

“Draxler is a phenomenal player on his day but you have to argue whether he has the consistency to replace someone as good as Eriksen. However, providing the price is right then he’d be a brilliant addition to this Spurs side. After reaching the Champions League final you feel as though they need some proven European talent to add to the exceptional homegrown players already at the club. Draxler, therefore, would be a solid acquisition.”

Total madness: Liverpool fans are against Shaqiri leaving Anfield

[ad_pod ]

According to Goal.com, Liverpool would not be against selling Xherdan Shaqiri this summer if a suitable bid arrived for the Switzerland international.

It remains to be seen how busy the Reds are in this transfer window.

All things considered, it has been a very good campaign for the Merseyside giants.

And it could get even better as they prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final at the start of next month.

According to Goal.com, in order to fund other moves this summer, Shaqiri could be sold.

However, it would be fair to say that the Liverpool supporters are against the versatile attacker leaving Anfield ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Has Alisson been Liverpool’s most important signing of the season? Check out the video below to find out why Jurgen Klopp thinks so…

Shaqiri has not exactly set the world alight since arriving from Stoke City.

However, he has contributed six goals and five assists this season and is certainly a decent option off the bench.
